2nd Warstory: Innovative OU vs "Surprise" Heatran

Title sucks...couldn't think of anything =/.

Well I had a quite fast-paced battle today on shoddy, ateast I think it was a good one. I'm still quite new at warstories so I'm sorry if this isn't very good, I'm trying my best to improve. Anyway I took a "break" from Pokemon due to my girlfriend and just school in general and so I'm back now and trying to adjust. Well here's the battle and I'd like to thank The_Artic_One for creating the War Machine.

People's comments and scores will be green like THIS.
My personal comments about the battle will be in Italic Navy like THIS.

NOTE: I picked the colors above because I find them to not be TOO harsh on the reader's eyes, yet help to keep everything organized for the reader. If the colors are hurting more than are helping, tell me so that I can take them off.

Leftovers will be omited for easer reading. The following Pokemon had Leftovers:
  • Matt_Lane's: Vaporeon
  • Nysimi's: Suicune & Heatran
Sandstorm damage will be removed.
Score are shown after each KO. (Matt_Lane - Nysimi)

Rules: Ladder Match, Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Evasion Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause
Nysimi sent out Metagross (lvl 100 Metagross).
Matt_Lane sent out Tyranitar (lvl 100 Tyranitar ?).
Tyranitar's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
A sandstorm brewed!
Metagross used Meteor Mash.
Metagross's attack missed!
Tyranitar used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around your foe's team!
The sandstorm rages.

Many people would probably call me crazy for keeping my Tyranitar in, but in my recent experience with Metagross leads is this: most of them use Stealth Rock instead of attacking. Although this particular one didn't, I was spared and was thankful for it. Now, having Steath Rock up, I have the leading position. Asuming that the Metagross will be using Meteor Mash again, I figured sending in Salamence would be best to try to take the blow.

Matt_Lane switched in Salamence (lvl 100 Salamence ?).
Metagross used Meteor Mash.
A critical hit!
Salamence lost 100% of its health.
Matt_Lane's Salamence fainted.
(5-6)
The sandstorm rages.

Well...didn't really think it would do that much damage in the 1st place to make a critical a OHKO. Well this really sucks. Well I figured Starmie would be an okay choice since it has Hidden Power - Fire to work with.

Nysimi: gay
Nysimi: ok np
Nysimi: lol
Matt_Lane switched in Starmie (lvl 100 Starmie).
Nysimi switched in Suicune (lvl 100 Suicune).
Suicune is exerting its pressure!
Pointed stones dug into Suicune.
Suicune lost 12% of its health.
Starmie used Hidden Power.
It's not very effective...
Suicune lost 11% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.

Blah, Starmie has Choice Specs which means I got to get it out of there ASAP. Vaporeon was the best choice to me so hopefully this is CroCune.

Nysimi switched in Tyranitar (lvl 100 Tyranitar ?).
Tyranitar's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
Pointed stones dug into Tyranitar.
Tyranitar lost 12% of its health.
Matt_Lane switched in Vaporeon (lvl 100 Vaporeon ?).
The sandstorm rages.

Okay well I'm not sure why he brought Tyranitar out...but whatever. I thought Wish > Surf expecting a Suicune switch in.

Tyranitar used Crunch.
Vaporeon lost 30% of its health.
Vaporeon used Wish.
Vaporeon made a wish!
The sandstorm rages.

And apparently that wasn't his plan. The wish still paid off though so now I just need to proceed attacking the Tyranitar down.

Tyranitar used Crunch.
Vaporeon lost 32% of its health.
Vaporeon used Surf.
It's super effective!
Tyranitar lost 54% of its health.
The wish came true!
Vaporeon restoBlack 50% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.

Okay so one more hit and it's dead...

Nysimi switched in Metagross (lvl 100 Metagross).
Pointed stones dug into Metagross.
Metagross lost 6% of its health.
Vaporeon used Surf.
Metagross lost 44% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.

...and THAT works too. I figured Vaporeon could take a hit regardless of it - seemingly - being Choice Banded (not sure if that's a word...).

Metagross used Explosion.
Vaporeon lost 87% of its health.
Matt_Lane's Vaporeon fainted.
(4-6)
Nysimi's Metagross fainted.
(4-5)
The sandstorm rages.

And it imploded everything to oblivion. Since Suicune seemed like the best choice for him to send out, I decided to throw out Starmie to make it basicly dead weight.

Nysimi switched in Suicune (lvl 100 Suicune).
Matt_Lane switched in Starmie (lvl 100 Starmie).
Suicune is exerting its pressure!
Pointed stones dug into Suicune.
Suicune lost 12% of its health.
Starmie used Trick.
Starmie obtained Leftovers!
Suicune obtained Choice Specs!
Suicune used Calm Mind.
Suicune's special attack was raised.
Suicune's special defence was raised.
The sandstorm rages.

Perfect, got it on the Calm Mind. I dont know why I decided to do the obvious Thunderbolt > Surf which could hit the Tyranitar coming in.

Nysimi switched in Tyranitar (lvl 100 Tyranitar ?).
Tyranitar's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
Pointed stones dug into Tyranitar.
Tyranitar lost 12% of its health.
Starmie used Thunderbolt.
Tyranitar lost 19% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.

And there it is...since I'm conviced that it's Choice Banded, I knew not to switch since that means he'll be using Pursuit so I just hope I live and go for Surf.

Tyranitar used Pursuit.
It's super effective!
Starmie lost 63% of its health.
Starmie used Surf.
It's super effective!
Tyranitar lost 2% of its health.
Nysimi's Tyranitar fainted.
(4-4)
The sandstorm rages.

Okay well that evened the technical score, but one of my 4 Pokemon was severely hurt. But then again he had a dead weight Cune so it was still kinda even. I don't really know what to expect so I wait for the worst.

Nysimi switched in Lucario (lvl 100 Lucario ?).
Pointed stones dug into Lucario.
Lucario lost 3% of its health.
Starmie used Hidden Power.
It's super effective!
Lucario lost 65% of its health.
Lucario used Swords Dance.
Lucario's attack was sharply raised.
The sandstorm rages.

Well that Lucario didn't appreciate that Hidden Power - Fire! =P. I guess he didn't take notice that the HP Starmie used on Suicune was "not very effective" and so didn't connect it to being HP - Fire. Well now it's got a Swords Dance and it's time for Starmie to take it for the team, it's done quite a good job.

Lucario used Extremespeed.
Starmie lost 31% of its health.
Matt_Lane's Starmie fainted.
(3-4)
Lucario lost 10% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.

Adios Starmie. Lucario having that Life Orb = the death of it since it's now in range of a Bullet Punch KO from my Scizor.

Matt_Lane switched in Scizor (lvl 100 Scizor ?).
Scizor used Bullet Punch.
It's not very effective...
Lucario lost 22% of its health.
Nysimi's Lucario fainted.
(3-3)
The sandstorm rages.

Okay well other than Cune I didn't know any of his other Pokemon, so right now everything can be comming out now.

Nysimi switched in Heatran (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
Pointed stones dug into Heatran.
Heatran lost 12% of its health.
Matt_Lane switched in Tyranitar (lvl 100 Tyranitar ?).
Tyranitar's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
Heatran used Substitute.
Heatran lost 25% of its health.
Heatran made a substitute!
The sandstorm rages.

When I saw Heatran, I ran for the hills lol. Kudos to him on using it late game where a Substitute could mean instant victory. When I switched to Tyranitar it was to try to absorb the blow so that Mamoswine (Scarfed) could come in and KO Heatran. However, due to the Substitute I have to rely on Tyranitar breaking the Sub before he himself is killed.

Heatran used Earth Power.
It's super effective!
A critical hit!
Tyranitar lost 58% of its health.
Tyranitar used Crunch.
It's not very effective...
The substitute took damage for Heatran!
The sandstorm rages.

Okay so the critical hit hurt, but if the normal percentage is still only 1/2 of that then I'll be able to survive one more hit to Crunch again. Right now I'm unsure if only 1 more Crunch will kill the Sub.

Heatran used Earth Power.
It's super effective!
Tyranitar lost 32% of its health.
Tyranitar used Crunch.
It's not very effective...
The substitute took damage for Heatran!
Heatran's substitute faded!
The sandstorm rages.

Thank GOD it broke. Now here is where we determine if I even have a chance; if he Substitutes again before attacking to kill the Tyranitar, it's automatic GAME OVER. However, if he goes for the kill then Mamoswine can come in and kill it.

Heatran used Earth Power.
It's super effective!
Tyranitar lost 10% of its health.
Matt_Lane's Tyranitar fainted.
(2-3)
The sandstorm rages.

In my opinion, I think he didn't realize that Substituting would be more advantagous (sp) than just killing the Tyranitar, that key misplay is my opening to maybe come back and win.

Matt_Lane switched in Mamoswine (lvl 100 Mamoswine ?).
Nysimi switched in Salamence (lvl 100 Salamence ?).
Salamence's intimidate cut Mamoswine's attack!
Pointed stones dug into Salamence.
Salamence lost 25% of its health.
Mamoswine used Earthquake.
It doesn't affect Salamence...
The sandstorm rages.

CRAP. I've pretty much lost hope at this point due to the fact that he has a Pokemon that is immune to ground. Now he has Heatran and Salamence, Mamoswine is the Pokemon that will have to take them out but they both resist the other's move that Mamo uses =/. Well since this beast is Scarfed I'm forced to switch.

Nysimi switched in Suicune (lvl 100 Suicune).
Suicune is exerting its pressure!
Pointed stones dug into Suicune.
Suicune lost 12% of its health.
Matt_Lane switched in Scizor (lvl 100 Scizor ?).
The sandstorm rages.

Guess he predicted an Ice Shard from Mamo (since he's been given no indication of Mamo being non-standard). Since I have Scizor I thought he might try to switch Heatran in, so that'll explain my next move.

Suicune used Rest.
Suicune fell asleep!
Suicune restoBlack 61% of its health.
Scizor used U-turn.
Suicune lost 31% of its health.
Matt_Lane switched in Mamoswine (lvl 100 Mamoswine ?).
The sandstorm rages.

And he didn't do that. And HOLY CRAP it has Rest...well atleast it has those Specs so that helps it not be a threat. Now I just hope to dent it with Earthquake.

Mamoswine used Earthquake.
Suicune lost 27% of its health.
Suicune is fast asleep!
The sandstorm rages.

Oh no...EQ isn't doing enough damage. I predicted a Salamence switch + Mamo wasn't working out right now.

Matt_Lane switched in Scizor (lvl 100 Scizor ?).
Suicune is fast asleep!
The sandstorm rages.

Well that Mence predicton was incorrect (seems my predictions come out wrong a lot =/). I wasn't sure how much damage Bullet Punch would do, but I'm hopin it does enough that it'll kill it.

Scizor used Bullet Punch.
It's not very effective...
Suicune lost 13% of its health.
Suicune woke up!
Suicune used Rest.
Suicune fell asleep!
Suicune restoBlack 90% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.

OMG it didn't. However, I have yet another prediction that Heatran might come back out (or even Salamence), so I decided to try to get a good switch-in.

Nysimi switched in Heatran (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
Pointed stones dug into Heatran.
Heatran lost 12% of its health.
Matt_Lane switched in Mamoswine (lvl 100 Mamoswine ?).
The sandstorm rages.

AH-HA! Now if I can just get him to think his Heatran is faster...

Mamoswine used Earthquake.
It's super effective!
Heatran lost 81% of its health.
Nysimi's Heatran fainted.
(2-2)
The sandstorm rages.

OK, now things have lightened up for me since my Scizor isn't in complete danger as before. I really expected a Salamence switch in at this point.

Nysimi switched in Suicune (lvl 100 Suicune).
Suicune is exerting its pressure!
Pointed stones dug into Suicune.
Suicune lost 12% of its health.
Mamoswine used Earthquake.
Suicune lost 31% of its health.
Suicune is fast asleep!
The sandstorm rages.

And he didn't do the switch? Guess he thinks the Mamo is just Jolly since Jolly will outspeed neutral-non-scarf Heatran.

Nysimi: scarfed?
Nysimi: i think so
Matt_Lane switched in Scizor (lvl 100 Scizor ?).
Suicune is fast asleep!
The sandstorm rages.

Well I'm not sure if his comments were aimed to make me switch to Scizor, because it seemed like a Mence swith-in if he really thought it was Scarfed.

Scizor used Bullet Punch.
It's not very effective...
Suicune lost 14% of its health.
Suicune woke up!
Suicune used Surf.
Scizor lost 53% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.

Well it'll wake up soon and I really need to be able to hit this twice to maybe kill, Bullet Punch is the best move to use. Well Specs Surf doesn't feel too good. >.>

Scizor used Bullet Punch.
It's not very effective...
Suicune lost 14% of its health.
Suicune used Surf.
Scizor lost 47% of its health.
Matt_Lane's Scizor fainted.
(1-2)
The sandstorm rages.
Nysimi's Suicune fainted.
(1-1)

Well when I saw that it did enough to kill it with Sandstorm factored in, that means game for me since Ice Shard would cover the Salamence awaiting me. So here goes the final battle:

Nysimi switched in Salamence (lvl 100 Salamence ?).
Matt_Lane switched in Mamoswine (lvl 100 Mamoswine ?).
Salamence's intimidate cut Mamoswine's attack!
Pointed stones dug into Salamence.
Salamence lost 25% of its health.
Nysimi: gg
Matt_Lane: gg
Mamoswine used Ice Shard.
It's super effective!
Salamence lost 44% of its health.
Nysimi's Salamence fainted.
(1-0)
Matt_Lane wins!
Nysimi has left the room.

And there it is, GG to Nysimi.

This log was formatted using Warmachine Version 1.0

Props
  • Starmie for being such a big help in the game
  • Mamoswine for proving Jolly/Scarf IS a viable set
  • Nysimi for not just leaving and for playing a good game

Slops
  • Keeping Tyranitar in when I guess I shouldn't have (although it turned out for the better)
  • Using an obvious Thunderbolt when Surf would have saved my Starmie
  • Switching into Metagross with a Salamence =/

change the colors to something more subtle, they hurt my eyes.

I could only read up to the part where you switched salamence into metagross which was pretty stupid on your part since metagross has clear body.

Okay I'll change the colors tomorrow; I have to go to bed now, but I'll be sure to change them.

About the Clear Body: sometimes I just don't think...I don't know what cause me to think some of the things I do...

Salamence switch on Metagross didn't make much sense since Clear Body stops the intimidate from lowering attack.

Secondly yellow isn't a good colour to use ever during a warstory.
Please, this is for most people who don't understand colours, just bold the battle text and make your comments either normal black or dark blue.

Starmie tricking to 'Cune was a highlight I guess. Not every while we see a Mamoswine sweep. Warstories are supposed to be battles about prediction and clever writing, that gives insight into your mind. I'm sorry but this didn't do either. Though it is better than some of the other stories around here

Bah, both teams messed up here and there. This battle definately doesn't register as "classic." Mispredictions aren't a good quality in a warstory, although if it's a good battle and has value, it's acceptable for at most 1.

When you mentioned that using T-Bolt was a bad idea before it turned out to be a bad idea (and mentioning specifically why, giving away his next move) wasn't a good idea either. It was at that comment that I lost hope in a good warstory. It would have been acceptable to mention that after the move, but before? Ruined the whole concept of wondering what will happen next. Sorry.

No offense, but it wasn't a very good battle. Very amateur mistakes on both sides, and in addition to what the other posters said, I'm not sure why you used HP [Fire] on Lucario. It has a 140 base power, whereas STAB Surf has 142.5. Actually, I'm not sure as to why you have HP [Fire] in the first place when the only things you're hitting harder are those that resist water and are weak to fire or those with 4x fire weaks. Celebi and Breloom are hit harder by Ice Beam.

I stopped reading when you switched in Salamence on Metagross when you had Vaporeon in your team. You should read the archived warstories and pick a battle for a warstory that is more interesting, has twists and turns and good predictions that turn the tide of the battle.

This. >>

Also HP fire starmie is . . . well . . . you do realize on any steel type except scizor/fory, surf does more damage (and even scizor/fory do not like surf). Oh Empoleon too but you have thunderbolt for it, and ice beam for grass types. There's a reason HP fire Starmie is never seen.

Nice warstory, though I still do not know why you switched Salamence into an MM. If it was banded then you're Salamence was OHKO'd, if it was Scarfed (most lead Gross are Trick variants) then he would KO you on the second turn.

Evr considered Hydro Pump on Starmie? That OHKO's Lucario and most TTar, M'gros and Scizor :).

Hidden Power Fire is only really worthwhile on Counterstar, as Scizor/Forre don't particularly like boosted Specs Surfs. I can't say the game was brilliant tbh :(
