Rules & Tournament Format

General Tournament Rules
  • This is a standard RBY OU tournament
  • This tournament will be Single Elimination
  • Rounds will be Best of Three. You may switch teams in between battles of the same set.
  • Matches are to be played on Pokemon Showdown! If you can't agree on which server to play on, the Smogtours server is the default option.
  • Replays will be required starting in Round 2.
  • Activity calls will be made by me, potentially with neutral assistance from a Tournament Director. Coin flips will be done publicly on PS!
  • In the event that something is added to or removed from the RBY OU metagame in the middle of a round, that change will be in effect starting the next round.
  • Do not cheat. Cheating will result in a disqualification. Additional punishments may be applied as necessary. Cheating includes, but is not limited to:
    • Signing up with more than one account
    • Ghosting or being ghosted by another player (e.g. while playing a set, asking for advice about what plays to make)
    • Manipulating match outcomes (e.g. throwing a match in exchange for Smogon likes)
  • Do not harass or insult your opponents. I reserve the right to disqualify anyone breaking this rule. Additional punishments may be applied as necessary.
Standard Rules and Clauses
  • Standard Clauses / Mods
    • Species Clause - A player cannot have two Pokémon with the same National Pokédex number on a team.
    • Evasion Clause - A Pokémon may not have the moves Double Team or Minimize in its moveset.
    • OHKO Clause - A Pokémon may not have the moves Fissure, Guillotine, or Horn Drill in its moveset.
    • Endless Battle Clause - In the event of an endless battle, a draw is called.
    • Cleric Clause - All Pokémon must have full HP and PP, and not have any status conditions prior to the battle.
    • Invulnerability Clause - A Pokémon may not have the moves Fly or Dig in its moveset.
    • Tradeback Clause - Tradeback moves from GSC are not allowed.
    • Sleep Clause Mod - No more than one Pokémon on each player's side may be sleeping as the direct result of an opponent's move. All effects of moves that would cause sleep are prevented from taking effect while Sleep Clause is active.
    • Freeze Clause Mod - A player cannot freeze two of their opponent's Pokémon at the same time. All effects of moves that would cause freeze are prevented from taking effect while Freeze Clause is active.
    • Desync Clause Mod - If a move would cause a situation that leads to battles desynchronizing during a Link Battle on cartridge, the move will fail.
  • Banned Moves
    • Dig, Double Team, Fissure, Fly, Guillotine, Horn Drill, Minimize
  • Banned Pokemon
    • Mew, Mewtwo
Prize

This tournament will award points towards Smogon Classic X and the 2024 RBY OU Circuit. If you win the Cup itself, you also get a spot in the RBY Hall of Champions! There will also be special role given to you in the RBY Discord Server.

really happy to win in my favorite tier after years of playing classic and never making it past round 6 in a single cup. rby is the only cup i signed up for this year because for me, this tier is the best pkmn playing experience this site has to offer. props to both my opponents for the great sets (albeit crazy esp after the reset). i hope to see both of you in spl.

i did this run pretty much completely on my own until finals, but once lickitung gave me the beating i knew i had to cook some new stuff. i'm planning to do a teamdump + an overview of this cup, what went into my teamchoices etc, and maybe some game analysis. stay tuned for that.

ty ABR and chuva de perereca for being my go-tos for rby metagaming and shooting ideas for the past several months. ty to emma for hosting and everyone else who helped me w tests, especially Fakes for being an ez win every time i needed a confidence boost in a team. s/o the sisterhood. cya in spl for some more rby gaming, maybe.

Congratulations to Excal on another excellent performance from start to finish and becoming the first player to win RBY Invitational and RBY Cup!

& congratulations to Isza as well -- your deep runs in RBY Invitational and RBY Cup this year have also been very impressive!
