RBY 2023 Tournament Schedule

Hi all, here's the schedule for all major RBY tournaments happening this year.

• 1st Post will contain individual tournaments that can earn you points for the RBY OU Circuit Championship,
• 2nd Post will contain team tournaments with RBY tiers.
• 3rd Post will contain individual tournaments that can earn you points for the RBY Lower Tier Circuit.
• Spotlight tournament information can be found in the RoA Tournaments Subforum.
• Announcements regarding signups will go in the RBY Happenings Thread.

Hello all,

RBY Lower Tiers Circuit will be returning for 2024! We do not have a concrete schedule yet due to two exciting announcements!

1. Every single tier included will have a tournament hosted on the respective forum this year! For example, the UU LTC will be hosted by the UU forum, rather than in the RBY forum! This helps move us toward our goal of being included in lower tier communities. However, because of this we aren't quite certain of scheduling yet.

2. We are planning to add ZU to both LTC and Grand Slam! We are still finalizing details on this but there was overwhelming support in the survey.

Here is the schedule for tournaments thus far:

PU LTC (3000 points): January 1
Ubers LTC (3000 points): January 28
UU LTC (3000 points): March 31
NU LTC (3000 points): TBD - likely May
RBY Grand Slam III (1500 points x 5 opens): Summer
ZU LTC (3000 points): September 16

Survey Results

Poll time! We unfortunately didn't have too many responses, but check it out:

So first off, it seems that overall people enjoyed the circuit and felt it ran well. There were a couple 2s; one respondent seemed to point that to the sheer number of RBY tournaments that run per year and the other did not give feedback on why they did not enjoy it.

A bit of diversity in opinion here, but overall the majority of respondents believe the circuit's been effective in promoting our lower tiers.

The vast majority of respondents favor adding ZU to LTC! LC/Random Battles got middling support but not enough to look like a good inclusion, barely edging out "keep the format the same," which also had minority support.

The most common point of feedback was a preference for double elim over single elim - I completely get why people want double elim, but these tournaments take long enough as is. Right now it's not really feasible, sorry! Some tours like the Ubers tour got 90+ signups and would take 3+ months to run, running into a dozen other tours. We already barely have room for the single elims, unfortunately.

The other common feedback point was that Slam was too much and overlapped other tours. We are working on this and will see if it's possible to space out the opens more and run it a little earlier!

Finally, all respondents wanted LTC to continue, unsurprisingly, but this is expected if you take this survey. 36% think it was very enjoyable and/or liked the format, 55% simply went with yes, and one respondent said yes but include Tradebacks. Tradebacks is unfortunately not a lower tier and will not be added.

Finally, there was a vast preference for integration with lower tier communities, which we're taking to heart! New this year is UU and PU LTC being on those respective forums instead of hosted within RBY!

Finally, here's a little table for RBY lower tier inclusion thus far - we aren't necessarily gunning for all of these, but I find it to be a useful way to quantify where we're at and how integrated we are! I'll update as we get more info. Don't take this as gospel till we see the circuit announcements. Given our lower tiers are mostly pretty new, I think we're making great strides!
