And so it begins! Thirty-two of the best battlers around have been pit against each other in a fight to the death. There will be triumphs, there will be follies. Most of all though, there will be some kick ass battles right from the get-go. One of these fine gentlemen / women will make it to the end, and only one will be crowned the king or queen of the Ultimate Cup. Who will it be? The journey starts now.
And what journey could claim to start, without a beginning? So without further adiu, here are the Ultimate Cup Contestants!
Hipmonlee -One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and also one of the fiercest battlers. Whether he's writing a post, or kicking your ass, he'll always end with "Have a nice day"
JabbaTheGriffin- Is there any tier this guy CAN'T play!? Regardless of what team you give him, tier you put him in, restrictions you place, he is ALWAYS a force to be reckoned with. Look out for this guy.
KD24- I caught a lot of flak for putting him in right away. However I can attest that this guy will be a threat to whoever his opponent is. A close friend and a great competetor, be ready for him!
Mizuno- Won a week of Smogon Tour with the utmost ease. Not only can the guy play UU like none other, he is a solid OU battler who is definitely worthy of his spot in this tournament.
maddog- I don't know him personally, but I got many a complaint that I hadn't put him on the roster right away. You all know his prowess much more than I do. Prove them right, maddog!
matty- Like the above, I really can't comment on his prowess as a battler. Put in on the vouchers of his peers. Once again I say, prove them right, matty!
darkie- I've battle him in more than one tournament and I can with certainty say he is a most competant battler. I expect him to be one of the dark horses in this tournament. Don't underestimate him!
Veteran In Love- Winner of TWO Smogon Tour Finals. A feat no other player can claim. Needs no more introduction, you know he's just that good.
Maniaclyrasist- Not only has he taken me out in any number of tournaments I've faced him in, but he does more than just kick my ass, including winning 3 smogon tours this year. This guy is hot, be careful not to touch.
Earthworm- Winner of a couple of Smogon tours. This guy can play nearly anything and be successful, even the CAP metagame where he won the entire tournament. I wouldn't want to face him.
Brawley- I feel that a lot of people may not give Brawley credit where credit is due. He is an amazing battler who doesn't know the meaning of the word "quit". Expect him to give trouble to anyone who dares oppose him and to make some amazing come back wins!
TAY- Another person who I don't know personally. However, I do read his team rates and he has an incredibly deep and complex understanding of the metagame at any given point in time. It's hard enough to make great teams for yourself, much less great teams for OTHER people. With team building being one of the biggest aspects of Diamond and Pearl, TAY may just win the match before it even begins.
imperfectluck- His is an apt name. I don't believe I've ever seen this man outplayed, more often, outlucked. Winner of a Smogon Tour Final, your friend and mine, it's IPL!
Tangerine- More known for his ability to argue than his ability for battling. However, that logical mind of his lends him to be one of the most conservative and consitant players around. He doesn't take chances, because he doesn't have to, he's that good.
husk- As if we needed another reason to believe that Asians are the cheaters at Pokemon. I've never seen a tournament where husk WASN'T a threat, and this is no exception. If you think you can beat this guy, think again.
Loki- Not only was he pivotal in Central Team's second place finishing in the World Cup of Pokemon, he has put in great showings in other tournaments as well as well as winning Smogon Tournament 3. A great battler all around who is well known for his prowess.
Warthog- And they called him, Mr. Pig. Battling this guy is like battling Pumba when you've done so. He's fierce and strikes hard right from the start. If you're not confident, he will take you down quickly and easily.
Gouki- Fat and... meh.
Dekzeh- Many people would like to think that his days of domination were gone as soon as Advance was left behind. But from my experience, he is just as good in D/P as he was back then, and he's coming full force into this tournament.
.Baris.- A relatively new face when put up against all of these veterans. Don't count him out because of that though, he can and will win if you give him the opportunity. And even if you don't allow him, he will still manage to win more often than not.
Jackal- IT'S A JACKAL! JACKAL? JACKAL! A JACKAL! IT'S A JACKAL? JACKAL! [/family guy reference] Truly needs no introduction as his battling skills speak for themselves.
Taylor- Ah, Taylor, one of my best friends on Smogon, as well as one of my biggeset rivals. He is always at the forfront of trends and is not to be taken lightly. He won't just beat you, he'll completely destroy you.
Max- Ah, Max. Humble, humble Max. He shouldn't be so humble considering his skills as a battler. He'll make you think you're winning the entire battle only to destory you in the final turns. A threat indeed.
Cynthia- She is far more recognized for her UU domination, but she is incredibly skilled all around. Expect her to surprise a few of her with her abilities.
Mien- Came out of no where one day to win a Smogon Tour with nothing but a simple Hail Team. This says a lot towards his ability to adapt to a lot of conditions as Smogon Tours are generally won by teams with a hook, something not expected.
Havak- Even as a towel, this guy still manages to be a major contender in every serious tournament he enters. He can run with the best of them and will make quite the showing at this tournament.
Giga Punch- Winner of a Smogon Tour Final and countless other minor tournaments. He is one of the most skilled battlers to grace my tournament and has what it takes to make it to the end!
Aeroblacktyl- This guy is so skilled, it's a wonder he hasn't won more tournaments than he has. The bridesmaid but never the bride of competetive battling. He may not be able to solidify the final win in some tournaments, but expect him to completely dominate earlier rounds. Perhaps this will be the tournament to break his curse!
Fabbles- I honestly had never even heard of this guy, but in retrospect it's amazing that I hadn't. He's won quite a few minor tournaments like the One Type Tour, and has done phenominally in this year's tour. I can't believe I didn't know his name, and I expect everyone to know it by the end of this tournament.
Sapientia- I don't have much experience on this guy, but others assure me that he's a top notch battler. I'm eager to have him prove his peers right.
Puggy- Arrived at Smogon right around the time I did and has been a rival of mine since our meeting in the Apprentice's Tournament. He may not be the most known battler, but he is incredibly skilled and on par with his competition.
Articanus- He said that this would be his first tournament, well allow it to be a good one. Prove yourself to the entire community and show them that you deserve this spot!
So there you have it, the 32 contestants who will compete for total glory in the Ultimate Cup. Who will win? Only time will tell!

Standard Rules:
Sleep Clause
Freeze Clause
OHKO Clause
Evasion Clause
Species Clause (This includes your side team)
Tie Move Clause
Battle Timeout
The following Pokemon are banned: All ubers, Garchomp, Deoxys-S
Special Rules:
1. Each round will be played in a best of three format. Finals will be best of five. This means that you must beat your opponent two times in order to be declared the winner of a round and three times if it's the finals.
2. Each player must submit to me a team of six pokemon that they wish to be their "main team." They must also submit to me a "side team" that consists of six additional Pokemon.
3. The first battle in a given round MUST be played with using your main team. After that battle is done, you are free to substitute up to two Pokemon from your main team with Pokemon from your side team. If a third game is necessary, you are allowed two additional substitutions from your main team for Pokemon from your side team.
4. This is one of the most important rules. SETS ARE TO REMAIN CONSTANT WITHIN A ROUND. This means if you use Life Orb Tyranitar in the first match, you are bound to using only Life Orb Tyranitar for the remainder of the round. ITEM / NATURE / EV'S / IV'S / MOVE SET are all considered to be part of the set. If there is proof that you have changed your set at any time in the round, you will be disqualified without exception.
5. Sets do not, however, have to remain constant between rounds. If you used Life Orb Tyranitar round one, you are free to use Choice Band Tyranitar for round two.
6. Your main team and side team must remain constant throughout the tournament.
7. Scouting is expressly forbidden. If you are caught watching a battle you will be disqualified without exception. DON'T WATCH OTHER PEOPLE'S BATTLES. I'm even going to be alt checking names of spectators just to make sure no one tries to watch a battle under an alt. Just plain don't do it.
8. Logs must be sent to me via PM so that I can confirm teams. Only the winner must send me PMs. If you fail to send me a PM, you will have to redo your battles. This is probably the second most important rule.
Pairings
Underlined players have sent me their teams and are ready to battle.
Loki vs. Mien (1-2)
Giga Punch vs. matty (2-0)
Cynthia vs. Maniaclyrasist - (1-2)
Warthog vs. Havak
maddog vs. Fabbles (0-2)

Mizuno vs. Jackal (0-2)
TAY vs. darkie
Hipmonlee vs. Brawley (0-2)

Dekzeh vs. Gouki - (2-1)
Atticus vs. Aeroblacktyl
JabbaTheGriffin vs. .Baris. (2-1)

With the caliber of player here, I see no reason why we can't get this done quickly. Deadline for battles is set for a week and a half from this post. Teams must be in halfway in between then. If I do not have your team by then, you will be subbed out.
DEADLINE FOR TEAMS : THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4TH
DEADLINE FOR BATTLES : WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH
