A VGC Trick Room Team

So I was trying teams out and it came to my mind that I hadn't tried TR. So, I did. I am pretty much learning the metagame to World Championship quality and learning to build different teams. To me this is a pretty good team. Trick Room+ Sun= Success!

Cresselia (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef

Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)

- Trick Room

- Helping Hand

- Protect

- Psychic

The main TR setter(wasn't sure what word I should've used). Cresselia mainly starts the battle with Ninetales. Having TR set up, Cresselia will move first usually using Helping Hand on it's partner. When there is a type advantage, Cresselia will be the first to attack and set up some good damage.

Ninetales (M) @ Shuca Berry

Trait: Drought

EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk

Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)

- SolarBeam

- Protect

- Heat Wave

- Flamethrower

Ninetales, the other main starter. With the ability Drought, Ninetales will start a never ending drought(sun or sunny day). With this ability, Sun abusers(I don't have any but I plan to take out Breloom and add Heatran) including Ninetales can use their respective abilities to gain HP or be able to dish out major damage.

Hariyama (M) @ Flame Orb

Trait: Guts

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def

Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)

- Rock Slide

- Protect

- Fake Out

- Low Kick

Hariyama is a mainly used Pokemon in this team. With the advantage of being bulky and slow, Hariyama can move first in TR and have major HP lowering attacks.

Hitmontop (M) @ Life Orb

Trait: Technician

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

- Fake Out

- Mach Punch

- Sucker Punch

- Detect

Gallade (M) @ Sitrus Berry

Trait: Justified

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def

Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)

- Trick Room

- Close Combat

- Psycho Cut

- Protect

Breloom.png

Breloom (M) @ Toxic Orb

Trait: Poison Heal

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef

Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)

- Spore

- Protect

- Mach Punch

- Seed Bomb

Thanks to all who rate this team! I really appreciate it!:naughty: (More descriptions are to come)

4 fighting types is extremely redundant and gives your team an insane weakness to any flying move. Psychic types in VGC do major damage as well. Also if any weather changer ever switches into ninetaild when it is using solarbeam, ninetails is stuck using solarbeam and vulnerable to a KO. I recommend more diversity type-wise.

To be honest, I think you have a lot to work on before you're ready for a RMT. From the rules:
"It is expected that you know the game to a certain degree of proficiency before posting your team for a rate here. Recently there has been a surge of teams made by players obviously brand new to the competitive scene -- there is little that can be done to help you here I'm afraid. This is the 'rate' my team forum, not 'rebuild my team for me' forum. Best place to go to in that situation would be Battling 101, and the Introduction to Competitive Pokemon article on site."

You also lack the most important thing that comes with an RMT, descriptions. You literally just put a team here posted the movesets with no way of telling us how any of the pokemon is used. Before you can expect any real constructive criticism, fix your thread, i advice checking out other ones to see a basis of what I mean. If you don't make appropriate changes I assume this thread will be locked.

Well, when I said I'm learning the metagame, I forgot to explain. I know the metagame. I'm just learning to enhance it to World Championship quality(I'm probably at National quality).
Oh and about the descriptions, I totally forgot. Thanks a bunch. I will edit that. Also, please don't lock this thread.

Now to Dingram. I actually realized that when I made the team. I'm thinking of maybe switching out sun(Ninetales) and maybe adding Jellicent or any other pokemon knocking out the sun factor of the team. By the way to all readers of the RMT, I will be replying to most posts and I will edit the team to depending how replies go. Once again, Thanks!!!

Have you tested this team at all? It just seems to have so many massive weaknesses in theory, so I'm curious how it works in practice.

This team seems really really narrow, and I think you've missed the point of setting up the sun. If it's there, why not use it, get some slow, and hard hitting fire types, or Pokemon that abuse the sun with abilities, and really mazimise the Trick Room, and Weather.

Apart from that, I think the others have covered the main holes here. Some questions answered would be nice.

I actually tested this team on PO a few times. I actually did exactly 10 battles and won 4/10. When I lost it was by only 1 max 2. I agree with weaknesses but I wasn't 100% sure how I should fill that hole in (50%). I was thinking switching not Ninetales anymore but Breloom was not useful in my tests so I was thinking a fire type. How should I fix those weakness staying tune with Dozz's post?

Now Dozz's turn.

I actually was wanting to put in Charizard but some people were telling me he was too fast for TR. I love your point. Charizard (a sun team abuser) would be a great addition with the solar power ability and putting in EVs in HP so my HP doesn't run low.
Thanks so far to all!

To me this team would just get slaughtered by another trick room team with atleast one water pokemon such as jellicent. Jellicent would KO ninetails easily, cresselia pretty easily as well. To me breloom would be the one to stand a chance against it, but by then it would be too late. Way to vulnerable and to me seems mostly based on individual power more that team work. Ninetails and hariyama definitely need to go.

Not to say your completely wrong but I disagree with you. Getting rid of Ninetales would get rid of the sun and this team is a Trick Room AND Sun team. Getting rid of Breloom is a better choice so then I can bring in sun abusers(Charizard) and have a better team. Also, from what I see, many people will use a rain team at Regionals well really not rain but they will be using Brendan Zheng's Team(includes Jellicent). Since they do, I can easily overcome it by not using sun that battle. Not all weaknesses can be overcame.

The point is you have sun on your team but nothing to abuse it.

The whole point of a weather is to have an abuser, something to take advantage of weather in your favor, and you simply don't have that.

Yeah good point so taking out Breloom for Charizard is definately a must be.
