Project AG Matchmaking! Week 5: Arceus Poison (Sub)

Deoxys-Speed @ Light Clay
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Light Screen
- Reflect

Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 168 Def / 252 SpA / 88 Spe
Modest Nature
- Geomancy
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Focus Blast

So GeoXern + really any screens setter just sweeps this team, especially with Rock's up. Something stupid like Deoxys-Speed can do both. There's no phasing on the team and the Xern counter-play is using SpDef Primal-Groudon to weaken Xern (or status) so Jolly Band Mega-Ray can try to pick off. You could optimize the Xern spread to counter this specific team, but I'll just opt for the SmogDex spread. Either way, GeoXern, at worst 2HKO's the entire team and nothing is done when screens are up.

+2 252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Arceus-Dark: 780-918 (176 - 207.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Dread Plate Arceus-Dark Judgment vs. +2 0 HP / 0 SpD Xerneas through Light Screen: 19-22 (4.8 - 5.5%) -- possibly the worst move ever

0 SpA Arceus-Water Ice Beam vs. +2 0 HP / 0 SpD Xerneas through Light Screen: 19-23 (4.8 - 5.8%) -- possibly the worst move ever
+2 252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Groudon-Primal: 175-207 (43.4 - 51.3%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
0 Atk Groudon-Primal Precipice Blades vs. 0 HP / 168 Def Xerneas through Reflect: 95-112 (24.1 - 28.4%) -- 98.1% chance to 4HKO
+2 252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Necrozma-Dusk-Mane: 210-248 (62.6 - 74%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Necrozma-Dusk-Mane Photon Geyser vs. 0 HP / 168 Def Xerneas through Reflect: 83-98 (21.1 - 24.9%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
+2 252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Rayquaza-Mega: 906-1068 (258.1 - 304.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Rayquaza-Mega Dragon Ascent vs. 0 HP / 168 Def Xerneas through Reflect: 165-195 (41.9 - 49.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Fairy Aura Xerneas: 463-546 (117.8 - 138.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Moonblast vs. +2 0 HP / 0 SpD Fairy Aura Xerneas through Light Screen: 58-69 (14.7 - 17.5%) -- possible 6HKO
This is matchmaking not break my team lmao

Unicorns

Banned deucer.

Sableye-Mega @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Protect
- Foul Play
- Toxic
- Recover

So Pex is considered the only halfway decent Toxic Spikes user in the tier (with Gren, Cloyster, and Tentacruel maybe being able to set up on HO teams). Pex has many coveted traits, including high base defenses (50/152/142), great defensive typing (including important resistances to Fairy, Water, Ice, Fire, Steel, and Fighting), good defensive movepool (including Haze, Infestation, Recover, and the aforementioned Toxic Spikes), and the best non-broken ability in Pokémon (Regenerator; Moody for best broken ability).

Mega-Sableye is an under-utilized defensive Pokémon in the AG metagame, being able to single-handedly shut down numerous offensive and defensive threats. Offensive Pokémon checked include Marsh, DeoA, MMX, non-Choice Band Mega-Ray, non-Z SD Arc (Ekiller is entirely countered), and SD Ultra-Necro. Defensive Pokémon include defensive Mewtwo, non-set up Zygarde, Lugia, Gira, defensive Ho-Oh, Ferro, Celes, Skarm non-Z SpDef DM, Tyranitar, Chansey, Blissey, Goth, Mega-Sableye, and Arc-Poison (kinda). Suicide leads, like Shuckle, Deoxys-Speed, Smeargle (kinda), and Aero (Arc-Fairy and Exca withstanding), are stopped in their tracks. This slows down the game to MSab's preferred defensive style. Seriously, Mega-Sableye is so good.

Pex switches into Fairy-type attacks for Mega-Sableye and Sableye can counter the Psychic-type attacks for Pex. Sableye can Fake Out/Protect to rack up poison damage, meaning Pex is suddenly becoming a looming defensive endgame.

Unicorns

Banned deucer.
We're going all out.

少林寺 (Kyogre-Primal) @ Blue Orb
Ability: Primordial Sea
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Mild Nature
- Liquidation
- Origin Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Thunder

Mixed Primal-Kyogre and LO Kyurem-White form a really nasty offensive core that are both incredibly difficult to switch into and can smash nearly every bulky core in the format. This Ogre in particular is among the worst things to switch into. The two weaken each other's checks, that way the other can begin clicking buttons.

In AG, Kyurem-White notably faces issues with offense, bulky Arc cores, Ho-Oh, and Chansey/Blissey. Handling offense has been a metagame focus since 2017, so let's focus on the others. Kyurem-White and this Ogre apply massive amounts of offensive pressure, meaning Arc's can't do their wall thing. Thunder is specifically to attempt paralysis on Arc-Water (aka nerfed). Ogre forces Ho-Oh out and hurts nearly any potential switch-ins. Ho-Oh is broken anyway and needs to be banned. Chansey/Blissey, the typical walls to Ogre, are completely MESSED UP by Liquidation (252 Atk Kyogre-Primal Liquidation vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey in Heavy Rain: 309-364 (48.1 - 56.6%) -- 89.1% chance to 2HKO | 252 Atk Kyogre-Primal Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Blissey in Heavy Rain: 957-1126 (134 - 157.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO). Chansey/Blissey are typically the only special walls on a team, so with them removed in particular, Kyurem-White goes IN.

In return, Kyurem-White applies pressure on defensive forms of Primal-Groudon, as well as the singular mixed Ogre counter in the game (Ferro). Roost allows Kyurem-White to come in and heal off residual damage, like Leech Seed. It's great. They just kill everything.

Why is Ho-Oh so good? I've been using this mon more recently and it is so fun to use, has so many utilities and hits hard as heck. Ho-Oh is legitimately a very good pokemon and should be used way more. Just my two cents, but as for the core... Ho-Oh is an absolute staple. Ho-Oh reliably switches in to the threats of Kyurem-W, barring Arceus-Rock lol. With Ho-Oh spamming toxic on everything and focusing on crippling Arceus-Fairy so that spamming Ice Beam with Kyurem-W is almost free every time. I'm just going to abbreviate Kyurem-W now lol. After building teams around this beast and looking for decent switch-ins to it, there really isn't too much in the tier, it just has a horrible type and is slow as heck. But ignoring all of that, this pokemon is honestly really threatening, if used well enough. Ho-Oh is a must for KW, it can just switch into fat Arceuses (most, at least) and can cripple a bunch of stuff. Installing twave on a team with KW or maybe even using sticky webs is not a bad choice either.

Kyurem-White @ Life Orb

Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Ho-Oh @ Leftovers

Adamant Nature

(this is the Ho-Oh spread I tend to use on fatter builds, you can use a different spread if you wish. generally fat ho-oh is what you wanna use with KW)

Jolly Nature

- Sticky Web
- Taunt
- Rapid Spin

Okay so is that Webs is very good playstyle to fift Kyurem-W imo, First webs help to reduce the weakest speed of Kyurem-W, leaving Kyu-W less vulnerable at revenge killer such as Marshadow. Also Kyu-W like common teammates for webs like pdon eruption, ect
on the other hand, Kyu-W help webs to deal versus some Flying-types, like Yveltal, witch are troublesome for webs.
His great wallbreaking capacity is, like always, very appreciated by Ho teams

reserving zygarde!

Zygarde-Complete @ Leftovers
Ability: Power Construct
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Glare
- Haze
- Rest
- Thousand Arrows

zygarde beats threats like pdon, ho-oh, sd groundceus and most physical attackers which trouble poisonceus. poisonceus on the other hand acts as a check to most support arceus and hp ice marshadow. pretty solid core

Marshadow @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pursuit
- Close Combat
- Spectral Thief
- Shadow Sneak

This thing’s main utility is in removing mgar. Poisonceus is like the definition of mega gengar bait and is easily killed by it, so if you can predict a switch, lo marsh will pursuit trap it and nab a kill. Additionally, poisonceus removes fairies such as xern and fairyceus, reducing the opponent’s safe switchins to marshadow. Also this pairing is in electriCITY but with hp ice marsh instead of pursuit, which means it must be good.
