Notables: Starmie, Magnezone, Oobemi

While everyone has been awe-struck by Overconfidence and Encourage, Analyze has sat quietly, waiting it's time to shine. This ability is a blessing for Pokemon that are much too slow to function outside of a Trick Room or take full advantage of stat boosters by essentially giving them extra credit for being sluggish.

Of the notables, I see Starmie benefiting a lot from this, as funny as seems considering his Base 115 Speed. However, combined with Trick Room, it can be quite useful. By setting up his own Trick Room and abusing the reverse affects from it due to his speed, Starmie will more than likely go last, resulting in pretty powerful Surfs or Hydro Pumps. This also gives him a reason to use Modest over Timid since even 329 Speed is enough to give the desired affect. However, he may be more useful with another Trick Room user and packing Choice Specs for himself, this way he can take as little damage as possible by not having to take a hit the turn he sets up TR.

For Magnezone, Magnet Pull will most likely still be the number one option, but Analyze is sure to find it's niche by abusing his lackluster 70 Speed and almighty 130 Special Attack. Thanks to his good typing, he has many resistances in which can safely switch in on and unleash hell with a Choice Specs set. Life Orb + Magnet Rise + 3 Attacks is also quite deadly by giving him another temporary immunity (to his biggest weakness at that), thus allowing his sweep to keep strong. Fire Type attacks are still a problem, but Flash Fire users like Houndoom, Shanderaa, and Heatran make for great partners.

Analyze was made for Oobemi. He doesn't exactly have a stellar defensive typing by being pure Psychic, but he has a massive 125 Special Attack and absolutely lovely 40 Speed, pretty much guaranteeing him to move last and deal back big damage with his decent movepool. I'm sure that with moves like Calm Mind, Nasty Plot, Pshycic, Energy Ball, Recover, Psycho Shock, Shadow Ball, and Thunderbolt he can put something together.

Overall, I see Analyze as a little risky sense you'll probably be taking a hit before you unleash hell, but if you're going to be slow, you might as well be slow and hit hard, right? Besides, not having to invest in Speed means you can invest heavily in HP and use +Atk and +Spatk natures, resulting in more bulk and offense.

I have a feeling this is going to work like Payback so you should get a boost if your opponent switches, and Starmie can definitely force switches. I think Oobemi is going to have to force a switch and set up a Substitute to get this to work well. But with the three remaining moves, it should be able to hit whatever comes in pretty hard.

We're going to have to see how much of a boost this actually gives. If it's 10%, even Starmie is just going to go with Natural Cure. If it's 50%, then Choice Specs Starmie and Porygon-Z are going to rape switch-ins.

The idea of using this on Starmie is just bizzarre. Natural Cure is just too darned good. Plus, even a bulky Starmie isn't capable of taking more than 1 hit usually.

Magnezone, on the other hand, could probably "fake" a Magnet Pull if done right, and can use the stat increase when walling.

Its a nice ability for sure but I think that people will stick with Natural Cure or such like for now. Magnezone loeses its ability to trap steels (which is the No1 reason to use Maggy in OU) and Starmie is very likely too fast to abuse this ability. Agreeing with you that Oobemi will abuse it best.

It might help Porygon2 offensively, but I'm pretty sure P2 prefers Trace since it's mainly a defensive Pokemon. But if Analyze typically requires the user to tank a hit, P2 does that in most cases.

Trace is infinitely better if you want a defensive Porygon, yes. However, I see Analyze as a Trick Room support option for Porygon2. Boosted power for when a slower Porygon2 -HAS- to attack without Trick Room (Let's say you're facing a Taunter.), due to the lower speed necessary for Trick Room sucess. Things like Trick Room Starmie seem highly doubtful, even though it might hit like a truck. The problem is that Starmie has rather disheartening defenses, and if you have a Trick Room Starmie, it -has- to be able to take a hit or two. Maybe even three.

Starime is far far to fast to make use of this ability so I do t see why it's under notables main pokemon I see benefiting from this are magnezone and I don't think he will use it much either because steel trap will become damn near mandatory since people have lighting rod zapdos to fear if they don't trap skarmory really that's it because porygon-2 loves his trace way to much to give it up and trace has become even more valuable with overconfidence. This is a gen 5 ability that's only going to be for gen 5 pokemon in my opinion I would of loved to see something on the slower side get this like umbreon or snoralax that would be a force to be reckoned with

Losing Adaptability really sucks, but hey, at least your power is still increased, and not just a STAB. I hope it's 2x. This thing is gonna rape I swear to God.

How about this? This is for porygon-Z BTW.

Choice Scarf
Analyze
(Whatever EVs, sorry :)
- Trick
- Nasty plot/Dark pulse
- Tri Attack
- Ice Beam

It tricks the scarf onto the opponent, guaranteeing it moves last. I dunno if the effect takes place even if the opponent switches, but it's worth a shot :)

Excellent ability but given to a very shallow group of Pokemon. Magnezone has better things to do, Starmie is too fast (and Natural Cure is hot) and Oobemi is too frail to actually work.
If it does work like Payback then it will have some utility.

If bulky and slow Pokemon got it(not counting Magnezone since it prefers Magnet Pull) this would have been awesome to have, but gives our current choice this ability doesn't really shine.

Now with Blaziken, Sharpedo and Doryuuzu on the top of the Speed Tiers maybe it have some utility in Starmie, but IMO Natural Cure is better, i think that it would work only the Oobemi (and some Magnezone) sets. If it work too when your opponent switches perhaps it can have a greater utility in Starmie, but even that doesn´t mean Analyze Starmie will be very used.

With a Shadow Tag Fire/Ghost running around, alot of Steel Types are going to be picking Shed Shell as their item, so Magnet Pull strikes me as a redundant ability for the new metagame - Analyze seems like a good default for Magnezone from now on. The absence of Egg Moves means there's practically no loss in choosing it, too.

Shame it isn't on some slow fighting/ice type who can utilize revenge or avalanche, that also reward you for going last.

put me in the minority that thinks that analyze on starmie is going to be seriously nasty. i know natural cure is hot but analyze could turn starmie a pokemon you would WANT to switch into twave since the loss of speed only means an increase in SpA power. plus as already mentioned, if it works like payback on the opponent's switch it is really going to hurt. starmie always was a little underpowered in the first place...

Yah starmie is by far the most effective user of this. You just come in something like a Infernape and start destrying stuff with Boosted Hydro Pumps...Most of the time the best you could do to starmie was just go to a faster Resisting poke to take a hit and kill it and this will probably not work. Not to mention spin blockers will have to take not only Stabbed but analysed Hydro pump in the face if they predict the rapid spin wrong.Sounds fun..

Lagging tail Starmie could work outside of Trick Room but like most of you guys say, it's way too frail. It would only be worth it if Analyze boost > Life Orb boost. Even then the damage taken before the attack would be alot worse than LO recoil...

Why noy Porygon2? Pick Analyze, put a pre-evo stone on it, max out its bulk. Now you have a tank almost as bulky as max bulk Lugia with a prized 'reliable recovery', and the funny thing is he hits just as hard as a Timid Scarf Porygon-Z most of the time (369, assuming 1.5x). It makes a nice BP recipient, too.

Porygon2 is already an honorable mention. It all depends on what you want more of: defense or offense. If you want a backup special sweeper that can take a few hits, use Analyze. If you just want a mixed tank, use Trace. It is pretty obvious that Analyze will work wonders in countering the speedy Gyarados and Salamence.

I'm convinced that this was meant for Slowbro/King, and Regeneration was for Starmie. Lorewise, it makes sense: Seastars are known for their regenerative properties, and Slowking is the benevolent king who carefully and deliberately calculates his circumstance to make good decisions. Meanwhile, Slowbro just likes taking his time.

By switching the abilities, the Slows could've had potential to be good bulky special attackers (especially King), and Starmie would've had two great abilities to use when switching out (though he doesn't have the defenses to take more than a hit or two, and clearing paralysis helps a ton). But there's no sense in talking about what could've (or most likely should've) been. Slowbro and Slowking certainly don't mind the boost to their tanking capabilities.

and TrollFreak strikes again...

Only real good users are Bayheeyem and Elgyem. They are the slowest and have some good moves to back it up. Plus Bayheeyem gets nasty plot. This ability would work really well on something super bulky and slow, like Conkeldurr. Starmie needs natural cure. Magnet pull is almost always superios on magnezone.
