Anyone with kitten experience?

So I just got a kitten, 2.5 months old. Anyone with experience with these little scamps? He's just a domestic short hair, tiny and very energetic (duh).

Is it normal that he doesn't leave me alone ever and just wants to play and cuddle? I had no idea kittens were THIS needy, considering how independant the adults are!!!

yeah that'll last for like a couple of months. then it'll stray. if you JUST got it, take it exploring around the house, it'll eventually find its own haunts and just kick it there.

but yeah, enjoy the neediness while it lasts.

If it spends all its time with you now, it'll like you best when it's older. The kitten we got about 6 years ago clung onto me mostly (probably because my mom put her in my room because she didn't want to deal with it) and even now she follows me around and "talks" to me. After awhile though it'll only love you for a few hours a day and then want to go off on its own and be more independent. Take advantage of the love while you can.

Yeah, I agree; you'll miss the constant affection later. This is the best time to build a good relationship with your cat; if you don't do it now, it'll always be somewhat suspicious of you later. Even if you do build a good bond, expect your cat to need a lot of alone time later.

Haha, I love cats and kittens. I have 2 at the moment, I used to have 4(deaths...:pirate: RIP Fluffy and Tiger, I'll always love you. I hope that fucking Dog dies, it once attacked me too). Yes, as they're separate from their Moms now, they'll need someone to be with and, if it's cold in your area, cuddle with for warmth.

With this, you can get closer to your cat. Teach it tricks and things, and good habits. For anybody who cares, I fucking owned that dog. Fucking thing kills squirrels and shit in the area too, everything that moves, really. My 2 cats that died...they were always very friendly with everything. Then they tried to make friends with the local dog and...well, clouds sig explains what happens pretty much.

Yeah I'm just not used to or expecting this kind of clingyness. He's great, I don't mind it til he starts smacking my nose in the middle of the night. I do like the affection when it's appropriate, but holy hell does it make studying for midterms harder when he sits on my notes.

Kittens arse sooo cute!~

I have a kitty which is now a cat. You should spend as much time with it so it won't becoem aloner cat when it grows up. Most of my cats tend to do that. It will be more like a dog if you spend time with it! ^.^

Aaw my cat is like 6 now and sometimes she'll come and sit on my DS when I'm trying to breed something as if to say "Hey, I'm here. Do you see me? Love me now."

She's so cute. =3

Yeah I figured out how to get him to screw off for a while. I got him some mice toys. When he lost those, I threw a bottle cap. When he lost interest in that, I threw a pen. He just keeps going and going, lol!

Aaaw someone loves you. Seriously, don't fight it. In a few months you'll be like "KITTY WHY YOU DON'T LOVE ME NO MORE???? =("

Give it lots of attention and it'll love you later, and it will mellow out as time goes by (usually. Right now I have a boy thats about one and a half years old and still actively seeks attention, but he is the first of many cats to do this, so you should be fine).

cloud's suggestion of house exploring is quite good, but I also suggest you think about securing anything valuable/breakable in general (especially with kittens, my newest cats chewed through the cord for my Wii's sensor bar and I was not happy), and perhaps close off areas you'd rather the cat not get into, since they inevitably will get into it.

If you plan on combing/brushing/grooming it, I'd suggest getting it used to that earlier rather than later, but since its a short hair I can't imagine you'd have any troubles of that sort and probably won't need to bother cleaning it at all.

Kristy Haruka swore! I'm in shock over here. :X

I find that the best way to bond with a kitten is to put in all sorts of situations where you can attach a caption and take a photo. Put the pictures on the internet, and the kitten will be so grateful for it's new-found fame that it will instantly fall in love you. Or it might hate you and attempt to make you "choke on a dick." Could go either way. :(

hmm, I got my cat when he was somewhere around 2-3 years of age; it's been a little over a year now but he's still a clingy cuddle monster, :\ I almost wish he was more independent sometimes...

Idk, maybe because he was a stray before? lol Or my cat's just really weird.

yeah, try to build a close bond now that its young because when they get older like my cat they halrdy even want you to pet them. i miss when my cat wanted constant attention from me. :'(

I found a 2 week old kitten a few years ago and I bottle raised her into the fatass she is today. Think having a 2.5 month old kitten is fun, having one almost from birth is an even cooler experience.

we actually just got a kitten about a month ago. my sister immediately claimed her and named her Xena...but whatever. i also was not ready for all the attention and energy but i found out that pennies, especially shiny ones, work wonders for distracting her.

Kittens treat you like a litter-mate, especially if you're home awesome. I used to spend like at least 3 hours a day with my kitten, but as they get older they do get a little less rambunctious. They still like to play every now and then, but honestly, enjoy it while the neediness lasts, like cloud said.

My cat Tiger was born in my backyard and the experiences with it from the time it couldn't even see to 2.5 years later are all great. He's an outside cat and only comes inside when he's hungry or needs some attention, but he likes me the most and it's really obvious when he goes through the house looking for me. Also, whenever he kills something, he drags it to the front of the house and comes looking for me to show me every single time. Whether you beleive that or not is up to you.

Yeah, enjoy the dependence while it lasts, and if you plan on bathing it, you'd better get it used to the water really early otherwise it'll kill you if you try that later on.

Ha, yeah I just got a kitten not to long ago. So I'm experiencing the same thing you are. They're playful for a while until they grow up into adults and get boring. =/ I have an adult cat as well as a kitten now, so the kitten often tries to play with the adult cat instead of me.

I remember when I had a couple of kittens that age. They followed me everywhere, and they seemed to somehow know where I was wherever I went. I'd run to the bathroom and sure enough, they came to the bathroom, pawing on the door. The adults do this too if you got them as a kitten. It's a love thing.
