What item should I give my metagross? Im using it to get the 100 wins in the battle tower. I had choice scarf but I didnt like being locked onto one move which cost me a match. (Everyone on my team has an adamant nature and EV max attack i think)
Metagross@ Choice scarf (bright powder?)
-meteor mash
-hammer arm(double team?)
-earthquake
-explosion

dragonite@ lum berry
-dragon dance
-dragon rush
-roost

tyranitar@ left overs
-rock slide
-earthquake
-ice fang
-pursuit

@~Eon~: For Metagross, I would go with Life Orb, to increase damage output. It is generally not a good idea to try to out-hax the battle tower, and for the same reason Double Team is a bad idea. Maybe replace Hammer Arm with Bullet Punch, to beat Focus Sasher, who are very common. For Dragonite, aside from the fact you only have three moves, try a standard mixed set because stalling never does very well in the BT, and while you're at it you may want to replace it with Mence. It probably wants a Focus Sash to stop OHKO hax from the AI as well, and Mence is best for this because he can hit hard against both ends of the attacking spectrum, trying to OHKO the opponent when down to his sash. TTar then probably wants Lum, because someone needs it, and Pursuit should be changed to something like Crunch. Also, Ice Fang is outclassed by Ice Punch if you can get it.

In game, can I complete a pokemon's EV training at any level and then train it to level 100 without random EV gains? Or do I have to EV train at level 99?

Once its EVs are maxed out your Pokemon won't gain any more EVs from battles, so yes you can complete EV training at any level before 100 and then level it up.

Ok my quick question. Would Black Sludge be a viable item for a Breloom with Poison Heal? Similar to a Toxic or Burn Orb? And likewise for Guts users like Ursaring, Heracross, etc..?

I'm trying to get a Shroomish with false swipe. I have a female nincada with false swipe, and a male paras, which SHOULD be able to make a baby Paras with false swipe. How can I guarantee the baby will be a Paras, and have false swipe?

as far i know(correct me if i am wrong) the species of the pokemon that come out of the egg will always be the female one. and on the move....if it can learn then it will always show up on its movepool after its born.

You can't, because unless breeding with Ditto, the baby will always be the species of the mother, which is Nincada in your case. You will need a female Paras and a male of the Nincada or Scyther lines to get a Paras with False Swipe. Make sure you breed a male Paras (only males can pass egg moves) and then you can breed it with a female Shroomish for a Shroomish with False Swipe. As long as the male Paras has False Swipe in its moveset when you put it in the daycare, the baby will have the move.

Thanks. I've got my swiping shroomish now!

It has come up in many discussions that the acid rain glitch was probably unintentional, and so I was wondering if anyone had ever found out why it occurs. How could the game possibly be coded such that KO's, Pursuit and weather are linked so that the game glitches up like that?

I'm not quite sure, but my guess would be that a check for KOs, Pursuit, and weather damage/endings are in the same brackets.

However, I would imagine there would be an endturn() function and a switch() function, and there is a lot between them (the user interface and things). There is no reason for weather ending/starting functions to be in the switch function, and the fact that the switch continues indicates that the failed switch (which would allow for the shortcut to the weather functions) still counts as a switch and not a knock out. I also can not imagine why there would be more than one weather function. Surely there would just be two variables: weather and duration, which would be easiest and stop any glitches like this. I was basically wondering if anyone had gone into the game's coding, to work out haw it had happened in the game.

Probably. Seed Flare is an awesome move, but Nasty Plot is fabulous for breaking through walls. You also get the unpredictability of Celebi and Recover. I think it depends slightly on your team too: if you have a huge Ghost or Dark weakness, Shaymin is a better option.

ok, real quick question, in my ss version, if i have a pokemon with experience share, and my lead pokemon kills a pokemon that gives, lets say for example, 2 HP EVs, how many would my exp share pokemon get?
And does macho brace still work in SS? now that they have those bands?

Your Exp. Share Pokemon would only gain the effort yield the opponent Pokemon normally gives when defeated. For example, your lead holding a Power Weight kills a Drifblim, who normally yields 2 HP EV's. You kill the Drifblim, & your lead gains 6 HP EV's, but how much would the Exp. Share Pokemon get? 2 HP EV's.
To answer your other question, yes. It's useful when EV Training a Pokemon pre-E4, but once you get the power items...

It has been a very long time since I played competitive pokemon. Is shoddy battle still the place where most battles are done? I just went to get on the Smogon Server and either it is down or no one is on it. Did shoddy 2 ever come out? If so where can I download it.

Everyone's battling 5th gen on Pokemon Online these days. Get that. Google it.

Is it possible on cartridge to tweak IVs (outside of the power items). I continue to get poor IVs in my bred pokes. any ideas are helpful thanks

I am just getting into Pokemon games and really had no idea how deep they are. As such, I am learning about competitive battles and need some help as I decided to start building a team.

Keep in mind its only been a few days of me researching battles and techniques etc. I have been playing the actual poke games for less then a week so i am still pretty lost on comp battles.

This team is designed around Defense, Sandstorm and Entry hazards. Not sure if this kinda team is feasible or not. The thought is to have most pokemon on the team be able to withstand sandstorm effects and hazards. Playing strong defense and bleeding the opponent to death.

Need help with any flaws as well as filling out the last 2 spots. Thats where my inexperience is hurting.

1- Forretress (Hazards, Spike and Physical Wall)
2- Bronzong or Blissey (Stealth Rock, Defense Utility) Leaning Bronzong
3- Rotom or Spiritomb (SpinBlocker)
4- Tyranitar (Sandstorm)

5- Not sure
6- Not sure

Ideas of 5 and 6. What would round out the team best?
Scizor, Empoleaon, Heatran, Jirachi, Mamoswine, Lucario, Magnezone, Other? Leaning towards

Seems like I need another Special Attacker to go with Tyranitars physical.

Thoughts? I appreciate the help. Thanks!

EDIT: Athenodoros suggested switching Tyranitar with Hippowdon, as well as adding Heatran.. Does anyone else agree?
