I've been thinking (and randomly modifying my sig), but...

Wouldn't Abomasnow make a pretty decent Manaphy counter? I did the calculations, and a + nature Abomasnow with something like 248 attack EV's gets a OHKO on 31/31, 4/0 Manaphy with Wood Hammer 100% of the time. It resists Surf and Energy Ball, and with some HP EV's invested can easily take two regular hits or a boosted hit from Manaphy (IIRC, once boosted Ice Beam does around 60-70%). Not to mention Manaphy doesn't like hail.

I recently bred two Slakoths with the following stats:

1) Adamant; 0 / 31/ 18 / 1 / 24 / 31
2) Adamant; 12 / 28 / 23 / 31 / 31 / 31

Would the 3 less attack IVs on the second one be a fair trade-off for the better HP, Def ans Sp. Def?
Definately. That attack is not so huge a difference, but 12 Hp IV's is a major difference, imo. Also, Nice avi. I remember that video from Newgrounds. lol

Thought most Clefables did Bellydrum Facade with FireOrb w MagicGuard??

I've never heard of that set, and it's not on smogons moveset list, which means other people probably wont be expecting it. Why don't you use that?

Are there merits to using it if your opponent doesnt have manaphy?Pokemon that only counter one pokemon usually arent a good idea because if your opponent doesnt have that pokemon, youve wasted a slot. What will you do when your opponent switches? Abomasnow cant keep switching in and out if stealth rock is in play, especially with Wood Hammer and no 50% recovery move. I'm not saying Abomasnow would be a bad counter, since you can never say for sure without testing, I'm just saying these are things to consider when picking a counter.

Yeah, I know Abomasnow is kinda...useless in general, I was just trying to think of ways to counter Manaphy ever since that one "How do I counter Manaphy?" topic. I forgot about Stealth Rock, too >_>

Thanks for the reply, though. Manaphy users might not be expecting a OHKO from such an unused pokemon, which was part of my thought as well.

Does Roar/Whirlwind work against subsitutes? I'm training a Nasty Plot Ambipom and I was wondering which would be a better move. Subs or Taunt. The basic set up is that either Jumpluff or Weezing will use Memento and the opponent loses their attack power. I would pefer Subs since then Ambipom could activate its Salac berry and use Nasty Plot at least once to BP but if the opponent can whirlwind/Roar Subs then Taunt is probably a safer choice right?

I'm 99% sure that Whirlwind goes through subs.

I've thought about using Memento myself, it's an interesting move. IIRC, Gengar learns it, which could be great to use on something that you know will kill you to turn it into setup fodder.

EDIT: Oops, no he doesn't. Jumpluff is probably a good candidate for it, then.

Roar/WW both go through subs. Taunt also goes through Subs so an opponent might use that to prevent you from stat upping and baton passing. Also Gengar can't learn Memento. Besides he has better moves.

Thought most Clefables did Bellydrum Facade with FireOrb w MagicGuard??

Toxic Orb, yes. Flame Orb, no. Remember Clefable still gets the Attack-cutting effects of burn even if it doesn't take damage.

And the reason BD Clefable isn't listed as a set in the analysis is the same reason BD Snorlax or BD Lickilicky isn't listed - their low speed. Only Poliwrath and Charizard are fast enough to make use of a Salac Berry.

EDIT: That reminds me... what's the best way to win Explosion TMs at the Game Corner?

Belly Drum Clefable is listed in the smogon analysis (along with a choice bander wtf), just not one with toxic orb and facade, which definitely seems like the way to go with the belly drummer. edit: I now see that the toxic orb/facade combination is listed but with protect instead of belly drum.

What are the chances of hitting a Cacturne if it's holding Brightpowder in a sandstorm (with something like Ice Beam)?

Seems decent to me just low hp thats all.

Is using PP Ups and PP Maxs frowned upon in competitive battle?

Whats the difference between PP Up and PP Max?

It's 4:24 a.m. EST right now (east coast US).

A single PP up raises your maximum PP by 1/5 of the base PP. Up to three can be used. A PP max acts like three PP ups.

So for a 10 PP move, you'd go 10, 12, 14, 16, or a PP max would just make the PP jump to 16.

Oh ok thanks :) so is it bad to use these in competitive battles?

I don't know anyone who frowns upon it, unless (this is my opinion, and others may differ) you've duped like 100 PP max's and just use them on everything.

...which means I'm at a disadvantage not duping.

...to which you might response "but you should dupe, duuuude!"

The short answer is that they're helpful unless you're doing some bizarre strategy with trump card or something.

today I was doing stuff in serebii's pokedex. then I came across the TM list and saw the move 'rock tomb'. the inscription said: 'stops the foe from moving with rocks and lowers speed'. base power: 50, 80% accuracy. 100% change of lowering speed. my question here is: does this also stop the foe from laying down stealth rock?

Heh, I wish. I haven't tested it, of course, but I'd say I'm 99% sure it only means "stops the foe from moving (i.e. slows them down)" and merely says "with rocks" to describe how it slows them down.

Short answer:

Signs point to no. You will, however, meet a dark, handsome stranger.
