I don't know if I should post that here, but here goes... Hey people! I watched a couple of VGC matches and it really looked awesome, I was thrilled during the finals! I decided that I really want to give VGC a try, but I don't know much about it since there were none over here. Are there any good articles about the metagame and team building? I looked around but didn't find anything. Sorry if there are some on the site, as I said I didn't find anything... perhaps I didn't look at the right places. I know VGC11 are probably going to be different, but at least it'd give me a nice start. If you guys could show me some articles I should read, it'd be greatly appreciated!

The problem about that is that not too many top-ranking people seem to be keen on revealing their teams and methods until they're out of the competition. The best options you have at your disposal are the warstories posted in this subforum, doubles strategy articles, match videos of regional/national/world finals, and your own experience. If you want to prepare for VGC11, I just recommend battling other players on a regular basis as soon as the rules are announced and experimenting as much as possible.

There was a VGC article in the Smog a while back, but I don't think it was anything more than a simple introductory of the format and a summary of the sort of things that were seen in VGC09.

You probably didn't notice, but our 2v2 Project Subforum in Contributions and Corrections was changed to "VGC" recently. TTS (Newark winner) is writing some articles now. We hope to have more soon. By the time the 2011 season and successor to Shoddy Battle roll around, we'll hopefully be able to at least provide a basic framework for people to wrap their heads around VGC play easier.

For now, just dive right in with Pokemon Online!

Hilo, I am starting to prepare a team for VGC 11, and I have 5 Pokemon picked out. I need a sixth.

The team is a Sunny Day team:

Groudon and Jumpluff lead
Exeggutor
Ninetales
Tropius
??????

I was gonna use Garchomp, but I axed him for Scizor because he made my team even more Ice weak, but then I realized Scizor opened a huge hole for Fire types. The closest I've come is Aggron, but then half my team is Water weak and half is resistant.

Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: I hope this doesn't count as asking to beat a hack check, I'm very sorry if it does. If I don't hack the Pokemon, but use things like Rare Candys and TMs, does that count to get you disqualified? Again, sorry if that's a bad question.

You can not make a team for VGC11 right now, we do not know enough about it yet. Simple as that. Also using hacked/cloned Rare Candies and TMs is okay, it does not matter.

I wanted to download it, but the website's down because they are updating. xp And no I didn't notice, thanks for telling me, I'll definitely take a look at this!

idkidks, outside of this thread near the top of the screen I believe on the left (i'm on my phone atm) there's a blue button that says new thread or something like that. However, since it's evident you're new, think carefully before you make a new thread. The mods won't think twice about closing or deleting it if it's terrible. .trust me i'm an expert at terrible threads. ;)

Has anything been officially confirmed for VGC'11?

If not, what's the ETA on when they'll start to release information, i.e roughly what time did they release info/update the website last year?

Thanks to anyone who can help :D

As far as I know, the only thing that has been confirmed is that the world championships will be in San Diego.

I believe the Japanese VGC10 rules were announced in early January.

It was in October 09 I believe. We may see Japanese rules again around that time this year.

Awesome, well two differing dates there, but answers my question.
Looking forward to attending the UK event, should they host one...

The tournaments started around January, but the rules were announced in October.

And there will definitely be a UK tournament.

I am on with my brother's account (i've been trying to make an account here but for some reason I can't...well at least the verification e-mail isn't coming to me) I am atm in South Korea for..well a family thing and I am trying to get into this Korean tourny with the VGC 2010 rules but with Arceus (as long as it's legal it's fine with however I want the EVs to be). Which moveset should I use?

I was thinking something(s) like

nature: Jolly (or adamant? which would be "better"?)
item: not sure -_-
move 1: Extremespeed
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Shadow Claw
move 4: Protect

nature: Timid
item: not sure -_-
move 1: Judgement
move 2: Thunder
move 3: Surf/Dark Pulse/Heat Wave/not sure here either
move 4: Protect

I'd suggest either that Physical one, or this one:

Arceus
Choice Band
Adamant
31/31/31/x/31/31
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Extremespeed, Return, Earthquake, Shadow Force

ESpd will 1HKO 99% of stuff with the Band. Return is for bulky pokes. EQ is for most Steels. Shadow Force is for Ghosts (and kind of works nicely as a protect).

Being base 120 speed, even with the non+Speed nature, he's more than fast enough to not have to use ESpd all the time. Just pair him with a Follow Me poke and... yeah GG.

There's already an abundance of special mons in VGC2010. A physical Arceus would be pretty awesome to take advantage of.

but you can't have shadow force on a "regular" arceus though only a farceus
right?
or can regular arceus (if it was ever caught in hall of origin be able to have shadow force)?

nope only Farceus canlegitimately have shadow force.

use an AR to hack an Azure flute

or

use an AR to EV a TRU Arceus

your choice really

the tourny isn't allowing those type of tweaking
they are only allowing legal arceus sets to be in the tourny
meaning (in this case) either HoO Arceus without shadow force
or TRU one with shadow force but without much to do with the EVs other than 100 in all stats :(
