When this Pokémon is affected by burn, paralysis, poison, or sleep, its Attack is increased by 50%. Guts ignores burn's Attack drop.

Guts raises the Attack stat by 50% while affected by the Burn, Paralysis, or Poison status ailments. The Attack drop from Burn does not occur. In Generation IV, the Attack stat is also raised by the Sleep status ailment, even self-induced sleep.

Aight aight, I believe you. I just wanted to make sure.

That's also why I wanted to do a Sleep Talk set because I knew sleep also gives the stat boost, but I'm not doing ST anymore.

I'm going to the VGC tommorrow with a Palkia. It's timid and has a 30 ( :( ) speed IV, perfect special defense, alright (-4 points, essentially) 22 SpA, and either 1 or 0 defense IV. It's running 252 Sp, 252 SpA, and 4 HP.

Will that low IV in defense or speed screw me over?
 
not really, you take more special attcks than physical ones so you are good and as for speed well u are very close so no
 
i have a question as well. for the common ubers expected to be seen, especially kyogre. do you think people will favor timd or modest more in thier ubers natures. because i have a modest nature kyogre and i am thinking "hey every1 will try for timid over modest so i will get outsped by all the other ubrs, no need to waste 252 ev's in speed, throw it in hp for better survivability", is my logic on the right path?

It seems it's about 50/50. I see most Ogres/Dialga(non TR ones) at Modest, most Palkia/Mewtwo at timid. So I wanna say it's dependant on the pokemon.

I recently got Heart Gold and have only beaten the second gym, currently in Goldenrod. Am I far enough to play in VGC, or do I need to get further into the game before I can play? (I'm trading the guys I'll be using over from another game, obviously.)
 
o noes just got my first lost of the night sniff sniff, o well 5-1 isnt bad, especially if it was vgc, that could potentially mean i was in the top 16.....if i had gotten a bye and only had to face 3 people to make it to the finalist lounge
 
@CCM30: Toxic does 1/16 damage first turn, 2/16 the next, and then 3/16 the next, etc.
After 3 turns total damage is 3/8.

Burn does 1/8 damage every turn, so after 3 turns, damage is also 3/8 HP. If you think Ursaring will last more than 3 turns (without switching), Flame Orb will be better. Otherwise, Toxic Orb will be better. Chances are, you would have switched or Ursaring would have fainted after 3 turns (switching resets the Toxic counter back to 1/16). That was why I suggested Toxic over Flame. In most cases, it probably would not even make a differences.

I would recommend having Protect though. Also, you would probably want a Brave nature instead of adamant.
 
well GOOD LUCK to everyone competing tomorrow, i wont be competing tomorrow but i will call it a night here. i'd say i had a pretty good day of practice. ty smogon players for the practice and i am very proud of my 5-1 record today idk if i will top that u guys are too much
 
I was wondering, do we use our own ds at the competition or do they have them. I had to get a new ds because mine fell and broke after my younger brother knocked it out of my hands. I could only afford a used one and it will randomly freeze. I do not want this to happen during a battle. I think I remember reading that they have a ds for us to use at each station, but I just want to make sure with people who have competed.

I have read that IVs are not overly important in VGC, but do you think I should rebreed for a better Pokemon. Its IVs are 22/22/6/31/16/31. Its a Sp attacker, but I dont know if its defense IVs are high enough.
 
If scarf Kyogre and Groudon are sent out, will the sun still stay even if Kyogre's speed without choice scarf is lower?

It is simply the slowest pokemon that sets up Weather. If two pokemon have the same speed, then it is randomly chosen between the two.
 
EV question;

If I use EXP. share on the pokemon I want to EV train, and put a power item on the one who is battling, will the one w/ the EXP.share get the benefits of the power item?
