Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Used to play Gen 4 ou back when it was current--Was decent, mid ladder or so. Didn't really play any pokemon for over 10 years and just getting back into it now. Want to learn how to get past 12-1300 on showdown.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yes, it's Poor_Gerald

By the way, i totally understand that my account is too new, per the general rules. I've been a lifelong lurker! I figured it was best to come here and ask rather than post just for the sake of it.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I have been playing gen 9 doubles for close to a year. However most of my experience is on the ladder where I am fluctuating between 1550-1700. I am now trying to improve my play so that I may be a better tournament participant in the future. In addition, after the archaludon ban, I am not particularly strong at any one archetype, with my best ones being Chien Pao HO, Full Trick Room with Psychic Terrain, and Fast Psyspam with Sun. I feel particularly weak with Snow teams and Balance teams.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Played 40ish games in ou 8g 3years ago and never touched showdown again. I basically took sample teams I found on here and got on there without knowing anything. I dread teambuilding as I wouldn't know where to begin. Been mostly playing pokemon casually so we'll be starting from 0.

Trying to get better at singles as a whole, have been playing on and off since Gen 8 but haven't really gotten involved on the smogon side of things until earlier this year. I'm trying to improve enough to win a tournament and just generally diversify my palette when it comes to OU.

I want to learn ssou, because i feel it is my weakest fairy gen and i didnt win a single ssou game in masters (lol) and havent had much joy of recent, if youre an experienced SSOU player with decentish placements hmu

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokémon (min. 3 sentences): I first started playing Pokémon Showdown in August and have been playing on and off. Lately, I’ve really been enjoying OU and have peaked in the 1700s on the ladder. I primarily play stall and semi-stall, but I feel like I’ve hit a plateau skill-wise. I’d like to improve my team building skills, identifying mid-ground plays, and proper positioning/long term game strategy. Also, I’d like to learn other play styles like balance or bulky offense.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yes, it’s my preferred communication method since I only lurk on the forums. My Discord is Pinkstork.

edit: I've recently peaked at 1926

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started competitive pokemon back in mid 2023, playing for a couple of months, then stopping altogether. I reached a pretty mediocre peak of 1500 in national dex and around 1600 in national dex ubers, although my gameplay was scattered across a couple of accounts. Now I'm trying to get back into mons, focusing on substantially improving in my favorite format.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yes! I'm more than happy to vc too.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Before September 2024, I had never played OMs. I started with OMs in CN OMPL, where I was drafted and played BH. I finished my first OM experience with a 4-0 record and was named tour MVP. Later, I was subbed in for OMWC. I'm quite familiar with the tier, but my teambuilding skills still need work, that's what I aim to improve.

I've been playing on and off "casually competitive" for 10 years but I've properly got into the competitive scene over the last few months, with various tournaments. I've reached 1500 on a few ladders, and mostly played Gen 6 OU and Ubers/AG.
I'm looking to try RU mostly as an excuse to use my old favourites (Azelf, Bisharp, Gengar, Suicune, etc) but I imagine the fundamentals would transfer to any format.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):
I've been playing competitive mons on PS! for over a decade now, having won OM World Cups 1 and 5 (playing STAB), as well as the 2024 World Cup of RandBats. I was fairy active in the OM scene from 2015-2018, including a year or so serving as the STABmons TL, but I stepped away due to the power creep of Sw/Sh ruining most metas for me.

I've always enjoyed playing AAA but was never quite comfortable enough building the tier or being able to gauge team comp/sets from preview. In tutoring, I'd like to improve on building/finding cores I like and being able to convert those into metagame viable teams, as well as general threat analysis/gameplan formulation, since I struggle with that the most right now, even after reviewing the available resources.

Started out just enjoying nuzlockes, used to play gen 7 random battles years ago, and watched games of draft leagues. Came back to Showdown in Gen 9 and played some SV OU using my in-game team; am just recently picking it back up again. Like most card games, I'm easily enthralled by deck/teambuilding as a puzzle, and am motivated by bringing unique compositions to whatever game I play.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I’ve dabbled here and there in competitive Pokemon for quite some time. I watch a lot of competitive content and aim to improve myself anyway I can. I’ve played a lot of Random Battles and a bit of OU (mostly during previous gens, but I’ve played a little of SV OU as well), but I’m still quite green at the game in general. I’ve only recently begun to take getting better at Pokemon bit more seriously. I am extremely hard on myself as a player, so I am very open to feedback and criticism to work towards improving. I think the biggest aspects I want to better myself at are teambuilding and understanding how my choices affect the game state in later turns.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yes, and if anything, I prefer it.

(I know I am slightly under the 15 post requirement, but I hope that's not too big of an issue.)

I've loved Pokemon basically my whole life and my favorite in the series is Black/White, but I've never fully gotten involved in competitive. I really love the community-led tournaments on Smogon and PS!, and I want to play to be able to understand team building, Pokemon roles, and the fundamentals of it so I can appreciate it more. I haven't played much OU and I understand the battles on a very surface level. My goal is to be able to grasp the intermediate and advanced concepts to be able to compete in some tournaments from time to time, possibly in more than just OU.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):I am a veteran player who enjoys experimenting with various metagames, having a decent understanding of almost all kinds of Pokémon battle metagames. My experience with Balanced Hackmons (BH) primarily stems from Gen 8, where I played special BH formats on Nihilslave's server and participated in small BH tournaments he organized in his BH chatgroup. I also tried to play a ladder tour but was defeated in the playoffs. However, I've noticed that Gen 9 BH seems to have significant differences in team structure compared to Gen 8, which motivates me to study about Gen 9 BH.Moreover,team-building skill is my weakness. Although the teams I throw together sometimes work okay, I'm not entirely sure what factors to consider when building a team.I just know it's important to counter imposters and should have answer to set-ups. I hope to improve my team-building abilities through this.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I am fairly new to competitive Pokemon around a month but I had a friend help with learning basics, I have climbed the ladder to 1300 in NatDex9. I think I can climb even higher If I can get a clearer understanding of teams and not keep using samples.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):I've been doing some randomizer challenges recently and everyone I've played has been really nice. I wanna learn monotype cause it's the most natural to me cause I play mostly monotype in the mainline games. I've been having fun using pokemon showdown because it helps me actually learn how to battle when I can't afford Nintendo online. I want to be better at playing but I can't feel bad about losing when the people here are so nice. I've been enjoying finding new strategies to counter meta or just mess around.

Played singles on and off since BW2 released, took a very large hiatus after gen 7 and got back into it in December of last year, fallen completely in love with ADV since and played in ADV revival 2 (very positive experience), want to sign up to more stuff and really get good at the tier

As for what ive already done to better myself, ive been watching a ton of content and laddering a bunch (mostly alts to try and get X-0 big streaks), feel like ive got the basics mostly down and know the common team structures/sets/mechanics, getting games with people who can do analysis afterwards and signed up to some tournaments.

Main teamstyles i enjoy using are:
- Special offense
- Italian/blue offense
- Stall
- Superman
- Anything i get off of ABR, like his teams a lot

Thanks a bunch for anyone reading so far! :)

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I don't have a lot of experience overall. I played a bit of stadium singles on cartridge but got destroyed, and then I found showdown and played some SV OU. I'm now in the ADPL (undrafted roulette, but still in!), and want to mainly learn how to make good teams and how to play against other types of teams well.

I have been seriously using Smogon for about 3 years now, starting in early 2022. Most of my experience has been in UU, as I have been playing that tier for 3 years and got drafted for UUFPL 3 times and UUBD once. I got drafted for BWPL, which made me interested in learning BW OU. I would like to learn more about the tier, and improve at mons in general.

I do pretty alright in ou ladder averaging at 1350 at best (and 1400 is my peak with ~50% win rate), but then suddenly drop really low and get big sad. I really like to team build and strive to get better at it. I really want to compete in tournaments but my confidence in winning a single match is at an absolute low. Competitive Pokémon is a passion of mine and I strive to be better at any chance I can be

Experience: Have been playing Showdown on and off pretty casually since SM OU. I have always had good knowledge, but never was involved in the community much. In the past few months I have been looking to get into more serious laddering and tournaments. I find myself usually around 1600-1700 on the ladder and am looking to really try and take it to the next level. I have struggled a bit to improve and find myself not really being fully locked into my more serious tournament matches, which does not allow me to plan for any sort of mid or endgame plans, and makes for as well a lot more carelessly thrown games than I would enjoy. This is something I would like to improve.
