Barry Bonds

ok I had to edit the above posters post because he can't spell "steroids" or "athletes" and it just so happens that this topic is about both of those things. get a spell checker, guys ;/

Hahahaha I can't take anything you say seriously because you're pointing to cycling as an anti-doping success story.

Happen to read about this year's tour?
...
Did you? It's the only sport where doping-users are actually CAUGHT!

At a press conference on May 24, 2007, Erik Zabel admitted to using EPO during the first week of the 1996 Tour de France,[26] when he won the overall maillot vert (green jersey). Following a plea from Zabel for former cyclists to admit to using drugs, former Tour de France winner and manager of Team CSC, Bjarne Riis admitted at a press conference in Copenhagen on May 25, 2007 that he used EPO regularly from 1993 to 1998, including during his 1996 Tour de France win.[27] His admission means the top three finishers in the 1996 Tour have all been linked to doping, with two admitting to cheating. Riis is the second Tour de France winner to confess the use of doping, following the example of Bernard Thevenet (winner in 1975 and 1977).

Yeah, cycling is really catching these guys.

Congrats, I guess. I'm only happy because there's only going to be a few more days of this (hopefully) before he finally gets the fuck off of TV.

@Ness
1. Those are almost all 10 or more years ago
2. You forget the amount of people that ARE caught, which is a lot compared to most other sports.
3. And that thing about Kobe Bryant, I think Da Rules will force the NBA to ban Kobe Bryant for several years if he'd be caught on doping, which they won't want to.
4. Let's stop talking about cycling =P It's getting a bit off-topic =$

Anyway, until he's actually caught taking steroids, my opinion is: Go Bonds, yay =D.

Gratz i geuss, although i am a dieheart brewers fan, some people dont understand how hard baseball really is. Even if your ripped it doesnt mean you can hit dingers everytime. Barry has great vision and alot of experiance to play with.

It looks like he gained 5000 pounds from his first homerun to yesterday. You don't even know it was him, and at the hearing, he said he "Unknowingly took steroids". Unknowingly my ass, if you didn't know you did, why are you saying you unknowingly did? Bullshit.

He meant at the time he was unknowingly taking steroids. by the time of the hearing he knew he took some. in fact, during the first hearing for his alleged steroid use he said that his trainer apparently gave him some arthritis cream and flaxseed oil, which was decided to probably be where the steroids came from, if at all.

he hit number 757 last night, i forgot against who, i just saw it on breaking news. Anyway, this thing about him unknowingly taking steroids to me is a load of crap. However, i dont agree with baseball coming down so hard on just barry. if your going to address the steroid issue and put an asterisk next to bond's home run record, then you have to put an asterisk next to this entire generation of baseball. There are just too many players that have been caught and or accused of cheating. I think that the disiplinary policy towards steroids should be alot stricter because it isnt fair to the players that play the game without using performance enhancing drugs. Bud has alot of work to do.

I'd just like to say that I haven't read this thread because I hate Barry Bonds...

I'm just posting to let everyone know that they should hate Barry Bonds too.

The only real comment I have to add to this is that at the Gamestop tournament that Fish, Sheax0r, Carl, and I went to, there was a guy that came in to watch it who worked at the Sprint shop nearby. When they started checking our games for hacking and illegal stat enhancers, he brought up Pokeroids.

"We can't have them Pokemon juiced up on Pokeroids. If you do, you're going to be kicked out. Is anybody here using Barrybondsymon? Is that a Pokemon?"

Me: "No, don't you know that if you use Pokeroids on your Pokemon, their Pokeballs will shrink?"

It was just one of the few bad Pokemon puns that was said that day.

I think Barry Bonds should have his record taken away because he was the only person to ever have used steroids in baseball. I feel sorry for the hundreds of pitchers that he faced that were not on steroids at all.

the only person to ever use steroids in baseball? what about mcgwire and sosa? they were also accused of steroid use, and there's absolutely no doubt there must have been a few players to have used them in the past.

Let me take the sarcasm out of my post for you. It's not a big deal that he used steroids to achieve his feat because the use of steroids is so prolific in the game, especially among pitchers. If anything, he was just putting himself on an equal playing field.

Let's keep it civil folks!

isnt the first case of misunderstood sarcasm, wont be the last :jump:

His record can't be taken away. Whether he used roids or not, it was still HIM that hit 757 last night and counting. Also, think about how many of the pitchers used steroids too.

This all comes down to MLB not having strict enough rules or just not imposing them.

Am I missing something?

Why is it that I don't think taking steroids (other than the legality issues) is a big deal?

Players have been "cheating" since the game started, often with substances. Players in the 50-60s = uppers, pep pills, etc for example. Yet nobody says those records are tainted, even though those drugs clearly enhanced performance.

As others have said, steroids don't give you plate vision, they don't give you the ability to pull the ball in different directions, they don't make you a better fielder, etc.

All it does is make some of the balls that stop at the warning track go over the fence. (for hitters).
