Battle Spot - Simple Questions and Answers

When will I be able to unlock my battle box? Kanto classic already ended
You can unlock it any time you want. Just go to battle spot on the 3ds and click online competition. Then click participate and a message will appear saying something like "there are no current competitions going on right now" and it will unlock your battle box.

It says I can't participate in another competition because I'm already in one, and then it asks if I want to cancel my participation. I don't want to cancel it, I just want it to be over :l

Okay alternatively, you could go to battle spot. Go to online competitions and look for another battle. Then the same message I mentioned before will appear and your battle spot will be unlocked.

I tried going to online competitions on battle stop and clicked the battle button (not the random match) and then I just got an error message pop up, like if it doent have access to the server anymore, and it didnt unlock my battle box at all. Also the global link pokemon page appears under maintenance for me..

Alright I think you should wait for some time and then try again later. If the problem still persists, you can file a complaint here at support.pokemon.com

I think you can also unlock your battle box from the title screen.
It's the "Live competition" option under "Continue" and "Mystery Gift".

Cancelling is fine, it will not affect the matches you played and you will still get your dragonite and be on the scoreboards as usual. It's basically the "I don't want to play any more matches, please unlock my battle box now" button.

Yeah just "cancel participation"; forces your box open, no penalty, you get your ranking + prize. I had to do it myself once when my box got stuck just like yours. Stops you from battling in the competition but... battles are done anyway, lol. Works like Pyritie said, can confirm. iirc he's the one that told me about it. xD

I'm wondering about the viability of trapping moves that do damage like Infestation, Whirlpool, Fire Spin, Sand Tomb, and Magma Storm. What are the best and/or most common users of these moves? The main reason I'm asking is Heatran's most used fire STAB move is Magma Storm, which is a pretty good trapping move, though 70 accuracy is pretty miserable.

Also, speaking of Heatran, would a set that's somehow based around Iron Defense and a Rocky Helmet be good? That's something Skarmory does. Heatran is a bit disadvantaged in this role by a 4x ground weakness, but power and ways to burn the opponent seem to make up for this. Maybe ID/ Lava Plume/ Toxic/ ?

The only other thing I've seen trapping moves on is Shuckle and it's pretty bad. Heatran can use it because Magma Storm is pretty powerful.

I couldn't see a ID Heatran doing well because it does not have reliable recovery and it's weak to common attacking types.

That s the main thing, recovery. Protect as the move in the last slot would work ok...but only with Lefties so no Helmet. I don't see trapping moves at all besides Magma a Storm Heatran. Shuckle seems like a really bad Poke in BSS, and usage stats reflect this. Pathetic offenses and the lowest base speed of Pokemon ever used in BSS. It's great defenses are offset by its extremely low HP, which is worse than the likes of Dugtrio and Mr.Mime.

Lapras can run Perish Song + Whirlpool, with great bulk offset by its eternally-damned Ice typing. You'd debatably be better off with Sheer Cold.
Heatran, no, most physical mons you'd want to wall (Khan, Garchomp, Landorus, Blaziken, etc) will hit you SE and 2HKO at worst. Specially defensive (BAN ME PLEASE) is a thing though.
Magma Storm has bad acc, yes, but a ton of power with a good residual damage+trapping effect. Fire Spin is awful power, shaky accuracy, and good side effects. Sand Tomb has too many immunities. Infestation is for Shuckle, almost entirely because the chip damage + Toxic + trapping is the best hope Shuckle has of getting a KO. No immunes to Infestation at least; just Shedinja, who is a ghost and can't be trapped anyway.

I'm a fan of dumshit like Fire Spin Torkoal, but I would like to note that it's laughably ineffective and that's 75% of the reason I do it.

I want to use Mega Aggron with Stealth Rock and Roar. The other two moves I'm having trouble picking. Ice Punch has a nice 68.8% to OHKO Megamence, and does a fair amount to Thundurus-the main two main threats I'm worried about(and Mega Gengar, tho it's mostly SubPerish which gets fazed, main reason I want a phazer to begin with,) but Head Smash has a pretty high chance to OHKO Megamence at 56.3%, and will do more to Thund and in general. Also pre mega can avoid the recoil, and it forms the famous EdgeQuake combo if I put EQ in the last slot. Ice Punch and EQ is also set up fodder for Talon, especially if it has WoW.

Almost positive the last slot should be EQ. Steel STAB is obviously stronger much of the time, but has much worse coverage overall.

Go with Ice Punch and Heavy Slam. This emphasises Aggron's strengths (beating Fairies with its STAB and taking down Mence and co with Ice Punch) a lot more than a weak coverage Earthquake does. Try pairing it with a Garchomp or a Lando for strong Earthquakes and good defensive type synergy. Stealth Rock and Roar are enough to deal with Talonflame usually.

Good point. Ice Punch is a good move, most common thing for Aggron. Iron Head's flinch is pointless without T-Wave, which is rather not use since I more often burn or poison the foe with this team, and it's already kinda passive so I don't wanna make Taunt even worse. I have a fairly strong EQ in Mamo, so I guess I won't miss it, especially if my last Poke has EQ(would need something that has that and beats Thundurus as well.)

How good is Heavy Slam? Lots of stuff resists steel(Thundy, Suicune, Aegi, Mega Mawile, Rotoms, etc.,) while lots of other things like Cress can deal with it fine for the most part. And for pre-mega ability is Sturdy good? Seems like a waste since you could just go mega instead-Mega Aggron is rarely OHKOd, and taking a single hit from something like Char Y won't matter if I can't OHKO back. How is Heavy Metal?

heavy metal is a useless ability with no discernable positive effect, besides boosting heavy slam I guess but you'd sooner be firing off heavy slams in mega form. other than that, you take more from low kick and grass knot which is nothing good :/ go with sturdy to guarantee rocks against things like Garchomp and Mega Lucario, and to switch into OHKO move users. It's not very useful, but it's still more useful than the other two. Steel is still a useful offensive typing to have despite all of it's resists. Mega Aggron isn't the type of Pokémon to sweep half the meta by itself anyway. Best to stick to it's strengths. Heavy Slam is really powerful against anything neutral and relatively light (Gengar is the big one here but also stuff like Sylveon) and gets STAB while emphasising Aggron's already positive matchups.

So I saw a post in OU about a Jirachi Hydreigon core. The idea got my attention as I've been keen to raise a Deino with Head Smash anyway.

The logical idea is to sub in Metagross for Jirachi. From there I'm a little lost on best partners. I believe Talonflame to be ideal but which set? I've got a Naughty one that I could hatch as I feel a mixed/ support set with Overheat could be interesting.

That could leave Gross to be Megagross which is fine. Beyond that I think I need support for what would be 3 wallbreakers. I feel like Sand would be really helpful.

It's here where my metagame knowledge and confidence suffers. Any help?
Your still kinda weak to garchomp cause it has super effective moves for all three pokemon you have now. If you need sand hippowdon is a good option, you can even give it ice fang if you really want to counter garchomp the most reliably, but regular hippowdon works well also in most cases.

I'm sorry I'm writing here but I didn't find any place where you can have suggestions for PokémonShowdown. I'm really uncomfortable with the chat command !weak(PokemonName) Every time someone uses it I think they are calling my Pokemon weak. I got really frustrated and it took me some time to figure out what's it about. Could you change it so it doesn't show up on the receiving end of the chat? It's only important for the person who uses it. And there might be people like me who don't know this when strating out and think their opponent is insulting them.

For Showdown-specific inquiries try this SQSA thread. Also, if you don't want to broadcast a command just use a forward slash (/weak) instead of an exclamation mark (!weak). This makes it so that only you can see the command, pretty useful in battle situations so the opponent can't make reads based on what you're looking up.

Hello there PlayfulSky and welcome to Smogon!

Just like ethan06 pointed out, this is not the place to ask about this. I would suggest following his link except I can guarantee you that nothing will be changed.

I don't think you understand the difference between /weak and !weak. Using a forward slash (/) before any command makes it so that only you can see it, whereas using an exclamation mark (!) broadcasts the command for everyone to see. If you suspect someone is using !weak in an attempt to insult you then I recommend finding a moderator on Showdown and taking it up with them. Otherwise they're just showing the Pokemon's weaknesses to everyone and you're taking it the wrong way.

Why do most Heatran run a Timid nature? Spe is its lowest stat so it seems weird to me. I can definitely understand Modest, and I run Calm. Is mixed Heatran pretty much extinct? The only physical move to see any real use is Rock Tomb-which is still rare-and the Heatran that run that are -Atk so it's clearly used for the Spe lowering effect and not damage.

I've seen Stone Edge used on Heatran once or twice for hitting Talonflame as it can nab the OHKO on SpDef variants where Ancient Power cannot, however that's really rare because Stone Edge is one of the worst moves in the game. Timid, I'd imagine, sees use on Choiced variants: it makes more sense on Specs anyway to ensure that you outspeed base 75s and below like Breloom and Bisharp and Mega Tyranitar and Mega Heracross and whatever else hovers around that benchmark, and Scarf can't outpace Mega Gengar with a Modest nature (the required speed stat for any Scarfer to outspeed Mega Gengar is 134).
