Battling 101 Q&A

Hello, I've been looking around and I can't seem to find when the next time tutee applications will be open. I know that I do not have the sufficient amount of posts necessary to participate but when I do I need to find out when the next time applications will be open.

Thank you The LegendKiller

Read the OP. There are three queues: A, B, C, you choose the one that fits the times you're available, if too many people are in a queue, then that queue is closed for a short period of time, when the amount of people in the queue are tutored, and the queue has been shortened then the thread will be open, you can then submit in your application, stay active and hopefully you'll get a tutor

I just signed up, and was wondering if it would be better to lurk around or to jump right into the Shoddy Battles. Also, while I know that tutoring applications are closed until the next round, I wanted to know how likely it would be to actually get accepted, especially since new users wouldn't have any references. Is the tutor program intended for users that have played Shoddy Battles enough to have a good understanding of the metagame already, or is it intended for newcomers like me?

Thanks so much for your time!

Well, first I suggest you read some articles, and watch some 'Battle Of the Week' battles so you can introduce yourself to competitive Pokemon, and then yeah, lurk around, and make a team. Play a little bit of shoddy battle and see what are your weak points: Team building, prediction, etc. And then sign up for the program to build on your weak points to make you a better battler.

Btw, refrences aren't needed, you just need to post regularly so they know you're active, and that's it, no references needed!

well im just seeing, is there some kind of battling 101 for wifi??
or is it planned?? you know, playing on shoddy is much diferent than on wifi...
also this is because i signed up for the program, but i cant use shoddy, so i got deleted from the list.

Im pretty sure its only for shoddy, most of the tutors are deticated to shoddy anyways and dont battle via wifi

The wifi metagame is different mainly in the sense that people like to mix tiers a lot to make the games more fun, which is really the only thing wifi battling has over shoddy. It's closer to a real battle than the walls of text.

The tutoring will teach you how to play pokemon. Take those skills to wifi and you will become a leet wifier.

Wifi also has a much more casual battle setting. Generally there are all levels of players on Wifi, which is both a good and bad thing; looking around in places like this you'll find awesome wifi players and you can trade FCs and be challenged, but if you go with the random battle you can find people of ANY level.

EDIT: so this post is relevant to the thread, do we have to have a specific style of play in mind that we request to be tutored on, or can we just sign up after a period proving our forum activity and be assigned a general tutor?

You need a specific tier, or you can put the tiers in a preferred order. I was going to go with OU but saw the number of OU tutee's and decided to apply for only UU meaning I could get a UU tutor. If a tutor you want teaches both styles, you can request the tutor (assuming you have a valid reason)

Hope that helps

Do I have to have just joined Smogon to be eligible for Battling 101? Because I've been here for a few months now, and my competivitive skills aren't the worst, but try telling that to all the people that (constructivly) critized my team. They're acting like I just joined last week! (from what I've seen)

Why have people only be assigned to 3 tutors in group C? I'm guessing because theres only 3 tutors in that timezone?

i am new and i really need a tutor to help me get better. Iplan to become the best player on this site and i will work hard to accomplish this goal. So please help me. I won't let my tutor down

The current tutoring round is going on. There are still 2 threads up I believe for which signing up is open, depending on your time.

Go check it out.

Since it's winter break, choosing another time zone is just as valid since (I assume) staying up late isn't as big of a deal.
