Braviary Discussion

I definitely think he's in a good spot now. He's by no means a bad Pokemon, and with his main competitor gone he is plenty viable competitively. He has great attack and decent bulk, not to mention a perfectly useable movepool. While his slow speed and lack of Close Combat hurt, he still has plenty to work with. It was just a simple matter of Staraptor's existance. As useful as Braviary CAN be, Staraptor was always just that much more useful due to a few specific tools. Now that it's no longer an issue, I can see him having more of a chance, even though Honchkrow is somewhat similar as well.

I chuckled.

Honchkrow is still a beast with its' BB and Moxie, but Braviary's main adversary is now gone, so he can open his wings and rain Superpowers and Rock Slides onto his enemies.

The whole reckless intimidate debate is kinda of pointless. Run reckless if your planning on OHKO crap or run Intimidate to bring in on a physical poke. Since Staraptor was put out of UU I been just replacing my team with Braviary and it works just as it did before.

Yep. It's one or the other. But since Staraptor's Reckless BB OHKOes shit and it threatens a whole lot of Pokemon, they tossed the birdy into BL, so now Braviary can shine! :3

I'm expecting this is going to happen quite a bit. Now that Raptor is gone Braviary fills his shoes as a very similar, effective, but simply less overwhelming alternative that the metagame can handle more easily. I hope to see him rise in the ranks.

What moves can Braviary use that would be boosted with SF? Since Keen Eye is an utter garbage ability, and Defiant isn't released yet, Sheer Force is his only option. I think he's got like three or four options, to be honest.

Only SF boosted moves of note is Rock Slide and Crush Claw. RS is fairly useless to something with STAB BB and Superpower to cover most things.

I actually doubt this, Braviary is somewhat weaker than Staraptor enough to miss a few OHKO's and doesn't have the much more desirable 100 base speed or the lovely double 120 power STAB and lacks any reliable recovery so can't pull off the Subroost set either.

Futhermore if anything it is actually now competing with the far more capable Honchkrow.

Especially since Honchkrow can get a Moxie boost or two before hammering anything that doesn't resist Brave Bird into a bloody pulp, Braviary's now gotta compete with the mafia boss of birds.
