This thread discusses the differences in breeding between Emerald and Diamond/Pearl. Okay, now one may think "Who cares? You still breed the same, all the mechanics are identical!" But, yes, while the mechanics of breeding remain unchanged, the game around it is changed. I'll list some pros and cons of breeding in Emerald vs. D/P.

Note that I will compare all aspects of breeding, including Dittos, and even EV training.

Emerald.

++++Pros++++

*Access to Emerald Tutor moves
*Easy ability to clone items/pokemon
*Eggs hatch at Level 5 for quicker IV checks
*Master Breeder can check for multiple flawless IVs
*Easy to catch Dittos in the wild

----Cons----

*Cannot breed Sinnoh pokemon (duh)
*EV-training is slower
*Catching Synchronizers is difficult (Safari Zone)
*Certain Egg Moves cannot be bred

Diamond/Pearl.

++++Pros++++

*Easily obtainable Synchronizers
*EV-training is very fast (Power Items)
*Can breed new Egg Moves
*Can breed all pokemon
*Characteristics provide insight into possible flawless IVs

----Cons----

*Eggs hatch at Level 1
*No reliable way to clone (for me, at least, I can't get the GTS glitch down)
*Characteristics only display one perfect IV

Alright, now discuss where you prefer to breed: Hoenn or Sinnoh?
I, myself, am partial to breeding in Emerald because it allows me to clone.

I've just started breeding seriously, using Emerald, and I'm finding it quite a lot easier than ever before. I only started because I wanted a 31 IV Metagross with T-Punch or I-Punch, but now I'm on a roll. Easy ditto catching is great, and catching/breeding Natu Synchronizers hasn't been an issue.

Another pro for the GBA games in general is that they are MUCH faster than D/P. I skipped the third generation completely and I recently bought Emerald and FR, the difference is huge. I simply can't believe how much slower D/P is, everything is slower, the text speed, bike, animations, moves, pauses between rooms, etc.

I voted for emerald without thinking. Sinnoh is better in my opinion because the egg hatch goes so much faster with flame body pokemon. I love that rule. Seriously, double speed is just too much for me to pass up.

Uh...that works in Emerald too. @_@

I chose breeding in emerald for the following reasons:
- access to emerald move tutors
- faster saving
- IV rater in battle frontier though I wish he'd mention all tied stats at once instead of asking over and over again if multiple-flawless
- hatching at level 5
- with pokemon box I can save then pre-hatch eggs then transfer the eggs to FR/LG to hatch for friendlier breeding and faster leveling purposes after confirmation with IV rater in frontier
- access to my memento secret bases for faster leveling purposes
- access to prepared secret bases for specific EV training

As a side note, I've been actively breeding in emerald for over 2 years and have many chain male pokemon with triple-flawless or quadruple-flawless IVs for easier breeding.

D/P does have the following at least:
- single-battle level 100 on wifi for IV checks at least.

Yeah, but you can also clone rare candies in emerald, which makes finding IVs just as easy.

I prefer Emerald mostly for that reason, it's also easier to clone (I don't have an AR)

I like D/P because you can actually see the nature of the pokemon inside of the egg through a glitch

I mostly breed on Diamond, because of the newer pokemon and added egg moves. But anything I can breed on Emerald is done there, leveled up a bit with cloned r/c before migrating.

Synchronisers arent really a problem as I randomly bred Natus of every nature for ditto hunting. Also slow ev training shouldn't really be a con for Emerald, as you can always migrate to D/P for training purposes.

But say this: If I want to clone a trained and untrained version of a pokemon for trading, and I have no means of cloning in D/P, I'd train in Emerald and clone it there. And it takes a while.

But I just found Pokerus in Emerald! :)

I do my breeding on both my Emerald and my Diamond. It all depends if I need to get a tutor move for that Pokemon, or if I need a fourth-gen move for that pogey. Mostly, I do my breeding on my Diamond, but if there is a situation that calls for a tutor(ThunderPunch Metagross anyone), I will breed said pogeys on Emerald, Daycare them until I know their IVs(Lv20 range, SRing helps here) then I Park them over to my Diamond. If they evolve by trade, I get it done with via a Hoenn/Orre trade before I migrate.

this is a subject i am very near and dear to. when i first got d/p i knew very little about breeding (didn't know the importance of dittos). so i bred some crap in d/p. then i realized all the pluses about breeding in emerald, mainly cloning pokes & items (unlimited rare candies for iv checking) and the ease of catching dittos. in my emerald file i have 2 full boxes of ditto with 31 or 30 in at least one stat, many with more then 2 perfect stats. i bred around ten good poke in emerald...

however.

this breeding all occurred at college without wifi. i couldn't trade with my local friends (ambitions) who has AR. upon our return home from school, the ease with which he cloned pokes for me was fucking sweet. so today i actually plan on going and buying my own AR and cloning in there. once i have access to that i see very little reason to do my breeding projects in emerald, unless of course i want some punches.

in conclusion i think the best way to breed is to use d/p, but to always have that emerald cartridge in the gba slot underneath. the ease for catching dittos is un-fucking-matched in emerald. catch your dittos there and import them. i also disagree with the statement that catching synchronizers is hard in emerald, by placing certain pokeblocks in the poke feeders in the safari zone you have a better chance of getting certain nature (more info in x-act's breeding guide).

my first real breeding project in d/p with my imported dittos began last night, hp ground abomasnow, and i honestly feel like i'm starting d/p all over again. i'm so stoked, good luck breeding everyone.

I breed on both emerald and Pearl but I prefer emerald. For some reason I find breeding a lot funner on emerald then in Pearl.

To be honest the Lv5/Lv1 difference is enough for me to breed in emerald, the ability to tell a good Iv baby from a bad instantly, or with just a few rare candies is too good to pass.
...Ben

Emerald. DP is slow and annoys me, and I only have one power item so EV training is just as quick for me on Emerald. The LV 5 Eggs, IV man, move tutors and Cloning makes it so much better

extremely good point. forgot about this when i posted before, i'm used to just looking at a lvl. 5 poke and realizing if it could be the poke you want. but the d/p counter point to this is you can IV battle for exact ivs.

also wanted to say here that i just bought that AR like i said, so i will most likely be primarily breeding in d/p now.

however i would like to suggest that their is something more pleasing to the eye about riding your bike left to right (emerald) rather then up and down (d/p).

Of course with emerald move tutors requiring battle points, it helps to be able to rake in the wins in each facility. Of course spending on redundant items which are now clonable are now a waste.

D/P, because that's where my fast egg/hatch and IV checking codes are....:naughty:

But if it were not for those, I'd say Emerald. The fact that I now have a copy of my baby in two games instead of one makes me feel safer. Also because of move tutors that don't exist in D/P. But as long as I'm not breeding Beldums, I'm fine.

im save resetting heatran atm, and it actually takes longer to get back into game even if you hammer start non-stop. try it, theres wierd pauses where you can press the buttons.

on top of this, the IV man is great when im breeding, which is normally on ym bus to work, as i can instantly know if its worth checking at home. also, it seems to me liek you cover twice and many spaces in the same tim on emerald, so faster to hatch = good.
