Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
We've theorymonned this set a fair bit since Jibaku discovered it, even considering adding it the analysis (pending testing) so I think to explore its potential here would be nice.
I've always been curious to see how it would fare since it's the ultimate mega kangaskhan stopper. Stall,if used correctly, can also be quite powerful in bss imo and unlike 6v6, can be fun to use as well.
In that case I'll go with the physically defensive Aegis. It seems like a really neat set, and Aegi is really good. I like the Latios, but Trick Specs isn't anything new really, and i want a set that's good but rare.
It's hard to decide on just one when there's so many good options here. Specs Salamence is still my favorite idea but probably too real for this thread.
I simply adore the combo of HydraGross in Doubles, so out of everything listed I'd say: Carbonific's Mega Metagross & Hydreigon.
Poor Metagross seems to of gotten massive hype, a short burst of hype-spam, and then died off completely. But is it truly that bad? I think not.
edit: DD Mega Altaria was very much the second pick, I love adorable death machines. Just wanted cant say to know I like it a lot despite not voting for it. Shoulda posted Perish Song Mega Altaria :P
This looks like a good start! Once voting ends I plan to begin breeding for distribution
Also Carbonific's and NOVED's sets are tied in votes wow, this is close
Summary:
Defensive Zard X = 1
LO Darm = 1
Choice Specs Latios = 1
Physcially Defenssive Aegi = 1
Special Mega Sableye = 3
Specially Defensive Mega Mence = 9
HydreiGross = 8
So this had both a lot more participation than expected and more votes. And above all a cool, unique set. We should be able to have a lot of fun with this.
OK from the analysis and general use, I'm sure that we all know that Mega Salamence is pretty devastating in the right hands. This beast usually fears Stealth Rock, Ice moves (STAB & HP Ice) and physical walls as well as most statuses. I'm not too familiar with the Sp Def version but I would imagine this make status somewhat easier thanks to Facade - it becomes the perfect WoW or Toxic switch-in.
Edit: This is Jibaku's original description as per NOVED
General idea:
- Great counter to burns, a common status used to otherwise severely impair Salamence
- Common burn inducers that this set can check: Rotom-W, Talonflame, Entei, Gengar, Blaziken. Can set up on Rotom-H but Rotom-H tends to carry HP Ice more often than Rotom-W so it's dangerous to deal with status + HP Ice
- Can set up on some of its common checks such as Zapdos, Rotom-W, and Suicune (at least until it decides to Sheer Cold spam and it hits). Sets up on Cresselia that lacks Thunder Wave/Skill Swap.
- Is additionally a solid check to Aegislash
- Can take an HP Ice from things like Blaziken, Volcarona, and Raikou. Salamence can beat all 3 1v1.
- Earthquake is still important for hitting Flying resists as unboosted Facade is pretty weak and won't really scratch if resisted.
- Watch out for Icy Wind Gengar.
- EVs maximize special bulk and allows Salamence to outrun Scarf Adamant Lando-T at +1. While in non-Mega form, Salamence can outrun Adamant Breloom.
Some additional info I've gleaned from battlespotstats.com
Top ten partners are Mamoswine, Ferrothorn, Rotom W, Sylveon, Excadrill, Aegi, Tyranitar, Volcarona, Blaziken & Suicune.
Top ten Salamence killers are Mega Kang, Garchomp, Mega Mawile, Greninja, Mega Mence, Mamoswine, Thundurus, Mega Gengar, Aegi & Suicune.
What we need to have now is a brief discussion phase, for us to figure what kind of thing would be great to partner up with Mega Mence.
The submission stage for round two begins on Sunday 22nd May and the voting stage will begin about a week after that.
152: High speed base 100s
151: Max speed Rotom forms
150: High speed Hydreigon, max speed base 85s (Pinsir, Nidoking, Heracross)
147: High speed base 95s (Gliscor, Darmanitan, Sharpedo)
146: Max speed (Mega) Gyarados 145: Max speed base 80s
143: Max speed base 78s (Mega Blastoise, Diggersby)
142: High speed base 90s (Kangaskhan)
141: Max speed Heatran
CPed from the Mega Resource Thread. My point here is at NOVED's Megamence has a strange Spe investment. 28 EVs gives it 144 Spe, just above Max Spe base 78s(which don't even count as a Spe tier IMO.) However it also misses the fairly important benchmark of Max 80s.
I think this Mence should run either only 12 Spe for Max Heatran(mayb even no Spe since nothing significant is outspeed by 4 Spe,) or 44 for max base 80s(there are many Spe tiers above that that are important, but this Mence clearly needs its bulk.)
So Volcarona is great, since between that and SpDef Mence, there really isn't much that can check them, if anything at all. If we go for Sub on the Mence over EQ, HP Ground is an option on Volc. It also can clear out Dragons with HP Ice. Volc checks, in particular bulky Waters and fast Rock coverage, are all beaten by SpDef Mence. The core's good even without SpDef Mence, but this set really optimizes it.
Well the speed tier must have a reason behind it. Heatran isnt a problem, this Mence must be classed as a great switch in for Heatran. I cant imagine it fears the rare Stone Edge or Rock Slide that may be aimed at a Talonflame. With this level of investment, Ancient Power won't be a huge concern either. Surely Heatran is set up bait which can be finished off with Earthquake at any given point.
I'd be more interested to know what this Mence can survive. Things like HP Ice or Rock from Serp and Volcarona if I was to hazard a guess.
I can imagine that this set gives Mence enough bulk to function like Dragonite in the HipDraLuc core but I think that we can find something potentially better. I wonder if the Excadrill Tyranitar pairing would be a good start.
Either Volc or Serp would be a good partner I believe. With the right sets these can become either bulky or very powerful. LO Blaziken could be good too as could Swagkey.

Well, this Mence can almost always 3hko Scarf Landog with even -1 Atk unstatused so I guess that's enuff reason to run Spe for it.
The only other EV nitpick I have is moving the 4 Atk and Def to SpD. All I kno this does is lower the chance of Mixed Mence to OHKO with Draco Meteor. Just a bit, but I'm not sure what those 4 EVs in Atk and def accomplish.
Teammates one idea I have is Mamoswine. Good synergy, and in particular it handles Thund which is very bad for this and really any Mence for the most part. Icicle Spear goes right through Sash Chomp which can otherwise win, and who doesn't want to break Breloom? It also beats the dangerous Gliscor, which can put Mence on a timer if it has Toxic, or more likely fish with Guillotine.
This Mence can deal pretty well with most Suicune and Cress, among other things Mamo dislikes like Rotoms and Aegi(no one likes Aegi.) It covers grass, water, and fighting weaknesses for Mamo, and isn't too bothered by steel for the most part. Mamo takes ice quite well and can switch in on t-waves and other electric moves.
Also top teammate for Mence, which is pretty big.
I think Heatran is really good with Mence in general, tho weirdly it's not in mence's top 20 teammates. It resists everything Mence is weak to but rock, and Mence is immune to ground and resistant to fighting and water. Heatran also really likes Suicune and Rotom-W in particular being removed. While this Mence likes being burned and doesn't mind fire moves besides, Tran's Flash Fire supports Ferrothorn greatly, another good teammate for Mence(#2.) Heatran is also pretty much perfect vs Mawile, which threatens Mence even if it can't quite OHKO at -1(tho it often won't be -1, and still can easily 2hko even if you go for Roost.) It's a full stop to Sylveon most of the time as well.
I think, given the nature of this set, some more exotic teammates than the ones in the top 20 for Mence are in order. Magnezone seems like a decent one. Mence covers all its weaknesses and Magnezone has an advantage vs Thund. I can't think of much else, but that's a decent enuff reason already, and remember we're trying to be fancy.
