Would adding shadows be good?

NOOOOO I accidentally ruined my design. I have to start over no.

I accidentally deleted my old submission, but I am fine with that. Now I am working on a new Pokémon based after the mimic octopus and the blue ring octopus with a hint of neon punk graffiti colors. Any feedback would be essential! Also, I am adding in lines in my next WIP, so if you were wondering, that is your answer.

chimera.png

Its inspired by chimeras like Type:Null and Indominous Rex. Basically a mutant hybrid whose typing and form is unstable. Still needs work, but I'd like to wait and see what sort of stat leaning 29 is gonna have.

First time entering one of these, made a spray paint chameleon based on Voeltzkow’s chameleon from Madagascar.

Modedit: Removed oversized image.

Thanks to Birkal, Darqueeze, Gekokeso, Slapperfish and other lads on Discord. Adjusted the eye and colour - for some extra detail, I've also added ink drips from his needle talons. Should be hopefully close to shading phase.

Resubmitting with the fixed image size, apologies, missed it on my first read through.

EDIT: The spray is actually its tongue.

Yes! This is gonna be my final WIP. When the final submissions are open, I will add on the rest of the facial details! Also the eye on the right is supposed to be cracked

Was at first going for a cloak-and-dagger bat assassin, but it ended up kinda taking on similarities with traditional vampires too. This is a mon that is able to completely use the shadows to remain hidden in plain sight, going for the kill when the target drops its guard.

Toxins are created within the body and funneled through the claws at the end of the wing tips, but the main weapon is the modified first finger, which has developed into a razor sharp blade for quick take-downs. I saw there was a decent amount of discussion over this CaP being able to use set up and recovery, so I figure a vampire theme would play well into that.

Color scheme is far from complete, as you can see lol.

Basically added most of the stuff from my old design onto my spray paint/mimic octopus/blue ringed octopus hybrid. Also changed the eyes so it looks more menacing instead of having a blank expression.

Yes, I know, I scrapped my previous four designs for a fifth one. In the wake of seeing other designs gaining more traction, I was been struggling to come up with a new design that utilizes what we have so far with CAP 29's process, but I think finally I came up with the perfect one! Color Change representation in the form of mood ring crystals? Check. Somewhat bulky upper body with a believable propensity for mixed attacking? Check! A design that combines the serpentine form of Coil users and the elegant dancer aesthetics of non-Bug Quiver Dance users? Check aaaaaand check!

But yeah, I decided to go with a belly dancing naga for my newest design. I envision her dance style changing with her typing, though I've yet to sketch that out. I definitely feel like it's a marked improvement over my previous designs!

Hello once again! For this run I have two lovely designs for you to pore over:
CAP29-2.png

Taking inspiration from a popular children's toy, I have here a sneaky serpent! Their enormously long bodies have gotten tangled up; there's no telling what's going on in the middle! mysterious, colour-changing shenanigans, we must assume.
colours are inspired by coral snakes, a venomous american snake species. These colours meet only in the middle of the knot, and its poisons are made more potent there.

The second one was inspired by me thinking "what if this other popular children's toy was a heaving ball of spiders?" and it developed into a sentient dimensional portal that spawns exactly 54 critters that link limbs to build a gestalt body. Who knows what this terrifying, unnatural force is capable of?!

So who do i go ahead with? pros and cons:
Snakes -- Exemplary Coil user, has a definable face and personality, but is not very mobile-looking and would be awful to model. That peak at the back was a penrose triangle but I had to bury it to save on brain-breakage.
Spiderhand -- Can do Coil or Quiver Dance, is cute in places and [[DATA EXPUNGED]] in others, would be easier to model but a nightmare to animate.

Supplementary Material:
Snakes full art
Kirby boss full art
That's all for now! will return with supplementary material in the coming days. Best of luck to both veterans and our lovely newcomers!

Idea #4.5:

I was inspired to make an inkblot cartoon, since ink is a good fit for Dark/Poison, and the characters in old cartoons always had rubber-hose limbs, which was a fun way of incorporating Coil. I went with a Greaser look because because greased hair = oily, black leather jackets fit well with Dark types and ink, and the subculture being "bad" fits Dark, too. I started with this design and made it an opossum, since opossums are also black and white and teem with disease (Poison). However, when sharing the design on Discord, it was clear from fellow community members that the opossum connection didn't show through. I also didn't want to make the opossum part more obvious, since I felt like it'd look like an evil Mickey Mouse even more. :u

Thus, I ended up changing the base animal into a frog, as they're known for their bright patterns (for Color Change) and being poisonous, and they are easier to draw bulky. The initial sketch seemed to get positive reception on Discord, so I worked on it more, and, uh, it took a turn from old-timey cartoon to 90's X-treme mascot. o_o; It's still a fun design, but I need to rope it back into Pokemon territory.

Edit: updated rendering:
  • Made the design bulkier to make it look more fully-evolved.
  • Made the pompadour more than just blobs.
  • Added a pattern to the throat sac.
  • Made the black areas more obviously inky by having it drip off.

mad scientist laboratory glassware dinosaur uses internal chemical reactions to produce colourful poisonous gas for both camouflage and hunting.

Here's a quick draft, hoping to make the mad scientist aspect come across clearer/stronger to better emphasize the dark typing.

Looking for feedback and suggestions!!

Perhaps you could give it the classic scraggly hair of a mad scientist but with glass shards instead? Or mimicking the head ornament. Another key component is expression, so maybe make it wide eyed and drooling the gases it makes.

I seriously love both your designs they are creative and unique! they are both good and I can see them both as poison/dark. But I think the second design fits the color change better so go with that one in my opinion. Also make sure it has a white background!!!

Okay Punkupine is back with feet! probably need to clean up the tail a bit but may want on stats before playing around too much more.

Final Submission

I think I'll submit this as the final version. Once again, feedback is very welcome.

Origins/Inspirations/Design:
This design blends in differents animals. While, there is clearly a salamander aspect, given away by the slippery skin and the poison typing, there is also a bunch of elements from the anole (a species of lizard capable of changing color and with a somewhat spiky-looking throat). I have expanded the spikes to cover more than just the throat, while trying to convey a naval mine-esque aspect on the original placement.
My idea is that it uses its color change paired with its spiky aspect and poison to create traps for and corner other Pokémon, which could explain its dark-typing (which is commonly given to Pokémon that use dirty fighting methods).
I was afraid of making it look like other similar Pokémon (specially the Gen 8 newcomer Toxtricity) so I made it more top-heavy than other lizard/salamander mons.

Went through a few iterations with the hair but this one was what I liked the most. Gown might go through some small changes pattern wise but I think I'd want the final to look something like this. Her gown is webbing that comes out of her actual body (that she somehow walks on, like an anthropomorphic weighted blanket, lol). I think the human-like shape is stylized enough so it's not really an issue, to me anyway.

Update on the Masked Assassin:
F341902C-39F8-4538-9723-A0171973FC9C.png

So, I posted the Spider-man-villain-looking-thing on the top left there and then after some extremely helpful advice from Celever below and others on Discord, I’ve decided to add an animal theme. I really love the bear tbh, but it sounds like the owl is popular. I was worried it’d seem too flying-type, but was reminded that it won’t even be dark-poison for long. So, thoughts? Other suggestions?

I added arms and some more flairs and I’d say we definitely tipped the scales away from ghost and towards poison a bit. My main concern is that now it looks too much like just a person in a costume (maybe an edgy Spider-Man villain lol_), so let me know if you guys agree and have any suggestions to remedy this.

I tried out the gaseous cloak as suggested by Tommaniacal, but that was just a bit of experimentation at the end, so I’m still working out how to actually design it, so I didn’t want to include it as part of the main design. Here are some links to alternate versions:

Gas cloak: https://ibb.co/TRb8w5X (the left and right side are sort of two different approaches to the vaporness, not sure which I like better)
Original clean cuffs: https://ibb.co/TWV6yfz
(I hope this is a legal way to show alternate versions, if not I’m sorry!)

Thanks so much for all the feedback and support! Please keep it coming! I’m also pretty new to digital art as a whole (this is definitely the most time and effort I’ve put into anything on Procreate) so let me know if you guys have any tips for that as well. I’m loving all the ideas and designs here. So cool!
