CAP 4 CAP 4 - Part 2 (Primary Typing Poll 1)

First Preference: Poison

Second Preference: Electric

Poison seems designed to be support, with all the good resistances yet crappy STAB. Being able to absorb toxic spikes, as well as being compatible with many other poison pokémon with good support moves makes this ideal.

Electric offers a single weakness although not as good resistances, but I think that an electric type built defensively can be really useful as a support pokémon.

First Choice: Dragon- When not paired with a type that gives it a 4x weakness to Ice (as every other dragon that's not pure dragon-type is), the dragon type can be very defensive, resisting grass, fire, electric, and water attacks, while Ice attacks hopefully won't be much of an issue either, assuming this Pokemon gets a large allotment for Sp. Defense. Opposing Dragons may still pose an issue, but that's why there are other counters for them.

Second Choice: Poison- If the Dragon type is overlooked, then Poison is also a really defensive type, which could easily come in on a number of common attacks (Bug and Fighting especially).

Poison-because it's an underrated type, and with the lack of focus on attack there isn't a need for a great offense

Ground-T-Wave immunity, no 4x weakness to exploit. That works.

1) Electric: Is there any electric poke that uses support moves? Other than Thunderwave, of course. Electric is the only type, aside normal, that only has one weakness, and, even though Ground is common as hell (and Gravity will make it even worse), that gives it quite a nice defensive potential.

2) Dark: One of the things mentioned on the concept description was "non Dark weak Trick Room", so why not make it resistant to dark attacks? Also, Dark is a great type to use against the ghosts that will block your rapid spin.

psychic
cause most of the moves we want it to have are psychic types so it just makes sense to be psychic (im hoping for this to be dual type though)

steel
steel types are one of the slowest types in the game so thats good for trick room, and it resists dark. mawile is like the perfect pokemon for this project, it just needs better stats.

psychic

Same reason as Atlas most of the utlity moves are psychic typing.

poison

Great defensive typing and we need more pokemon that can absorb toxic spikes.

First preference

Dragon
Dragon isn't acutally an offensive type, it's just that paired with fire nothing resists it via typing (Heatran would take neutral if it didn't have Flash Fire)

Dragon has 1 SE and that's vs itself

Dragon has 4 resists, allowing it to special sponge most forms of them. Surf, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Grass Knot/Energy Ball, blah blah.

Second

Steel
Steel is another major contender for defensive typing.
With 12 resists and 1 immunity and 2 SE's, it's defiantly a great poke to switch into attacks set up utility and run away. It also takes 1/2 or 1x damage from Pursuit, remembering pokes like Starmie, Celebi and other pokes die from CB Pursuit from Tyranitar,Weavile and Metagross. The first 2 are just plain annoying since they have STAB

IMO a support needs to take hits otherwise it's not supporting for long :(

As much as I want an electric to be the next CaP Poke, I don't think utility is the appropriate roll for the typing, therefore:

Poison- Sucks up Toxic Spikes for added utility. It only has two weaknesses and one is barely ever seen.

Steel- Again, is immune to Toxic Spikes, but this also take half damage from Stealth Rocks as well. Steel is also weak to ground though, as well as Fighting and Fire.

Dragon - Great defensive typing which is often overlooked because of all the focus the current Dragons have on attack. There is a lot of potenial here.

Poison - Underrated and underrepresented as a type. A utility Pokemon would work great with a Poison typing.

1-poison
2-electric

because I read through the thread and the arguments made for poison types (absorb toxic spikes, key resistances, only 2 weaknesses) made sense to me.

And electric types are cool

1. Dragon-Generally great typing, and the most utility Dragon we have now is Altaria (lol).

2. Poison-T-Spikes absorbtion, good resistances, built for the utility role.

1. Dark - Dark type utility Pokemon = Anti-Ghost Rapid Spinner, Non Dark weak Trick Room/Gravity/Perish Song. It's also in my top five favorite Pokemon type.

2. Electric - Only one weakness, useful STAB, etc etc.

1. Poison - Two weaks and four resists, two of which are two of the most used offensive types.

2. Dragon - We need a Dragon-type that isn't a sweeper. Also, great typing.

1: Poison - Pretty decent defensive type. Absorbs Toxic Spikes, nice Resistence to Fighting and just seems like a type which can really make a good use of utility moves.

2: Dark - Coupled with Dark we would actually have a pokemon that could act as the Anti - Ghost Spinner that some peopl wanted, provided it actually gets Rapid Spin. Dark is also a pretty decent type offensively and just generally compliments Poison pretty well so I think it would make an ideal second typing.

Electric would be my primary vote, as most electrics (bar Zapdos) are sweepers, and Zappy is a tank, at best. It also have nice weak/resistances (note : flying).

Poison is my secondary vote, as the utility poke could need to sop up Toxic Spikes and it would do it well. Also a fairly overlooked defensive typing, mainly because of EQ on everything physical from here to Timbuktu.

This choice is going to be hard. My favorite two options are by far Poison and Dragon, because I like both of the resistances they have. But I have issues with both of them. For Poison, I can just see this turning into Weezing++ on the physical side or Tentacruel++ on the special side. Both of them are already pretty viable options, so I don't really want to do that. For Dragon, well, we all know the fanyboy titles that go with making a good Dragon Pokemon. Couple that with the fact the support pokemon are actually pretty easy to break, and it doesn't seem safe.

So, while those are definitely my favorite two options, I think I'll go with Electric for a main type. Eveybody here seems to be focusing on neutrality for defense. I'd rather focus on resistances (like how Spiritomb isn't all that great of a tank). Electric gives us three mildly useful ones. But in trade it's one weakness is easy to work around via a second type or ability (preferably ability as second type allows us to get away with more resistances).

Going on my theme of helpful resistances, Fighting is my second choice. Rock and Dark resistances are nice, Bug is decently helpful, and a ton of things resist Flying and Psychic

First Preference: Poison

Poison is just a really good defensive type that can get away with using the many different utility moves flavorwise.

Second Preference: Dragon.

I doubt Draco Meteor will be broken on this thing. As a Dragon, flavorwise almost anything goes, not too mention that this allows for a nifty defensive combination.

Poison: As Urza said Poison has only two weakness, Psychic aren't very commont moves and Ground moves are easy predictable. Furthermore being Poison type it will take away Toxic spikes only by switching in the field.

Dark: Dark has only two weakness too and is inmune to Psychic. Combining this with Poison, Bug and Fighting moves will do neutral damage and will be only weak to Ground moves.

I think these are two good options, both types could be good by itself and combining them is a very nice result, I guess.

This is the PRIMARY poll, not for both types just yet ;)

Steel - Steel is an incredible defensive type, it's resistant to so many things it's ridiculous...

Poison - It's been said enough hasn't it? D:

First preference: normal
Secondary preference dragon

A defensive dragon type is a must in my opinion, since all OU dragon types are sweepers. Sure you have Altaria that is defensive in UU, and Palkia etc for Ubers, but OU only gets sweepers.
As for normal, it's a neutral typing that gives a lot of realistic movepool options for support, and aside of Blissey there aren't many normal types in ou.
Normal types are just tremendously fun to use because of their giant movepools and because they are so varied. It's also very easy to create an original concept for a normal pokemon, while dragons just get tedious.

First choice - Electric
Second choice - Poison

The reasons have already been stated, really. Looking forwards to the more complex selections, where you can make good arguments after page 1...

1. Electric - I envision a fast, defensive pokemon. Otherwise, it's just too hard to pull off most support moves. Stuff like Haze, Encore, Tailwind, Rapid Spin, etc -- all these moves require you to get it off quickly, not die as a result, or both. Electric pokemon are typically fast, and don't have a lot of weaknesses.

2. Dark - Because I still would like a good spinner (RS is a utility move), I want this to be a serious threat to Ghosts. With Dark typing, it could pose a serious threat.

Electric: It would be exciting to use a bulky Electric Utility pokemon because I don't think there's many of those. One weakness is also a great thing.

Poison: Poison is a great typing. It would be awesome if it resists Psychic and Ground. Fun to use.

poison - it's been explained to death...great defensive typing, resistances, ability to destroy Toxic Spikes, lack of good Poison Types...

dragon - This seems like it would be a great idea. Another good defensive typing, decent offensive typing (only resisted by Steel and Shedinja), novelty. I'm immediately imagining some snake-like or salamander creature with an incredibly long tail (for Rapid Spinning).
