Ok Aldaron, I will only post sensible posts from now on, as long as you don't class me asking people to VOTE POISON as nonsense?
Here's why Poison should be chosen over electric:
1. The toxic spikes sucking up, and toxic immunity is very handy for a utility pokemon to have.
Oh please, do explain to me why toxic spikes absorption is that important for a utility pokemon to have. If you ask me, toxic spikes aren't even used enough nor are they game breaking enough to make a toxic-spike absorption trait that necessary. If it was, then far more poison types would be OU. The fact that only one is OU, which you seem to argue as a selling point for poison typing, actually show that the metagame doesn't need any more checks on toxic spikes usage.
2. The typing provides a resistance to Fighting which is an extremely common attack type. Psychic is probably the 3rd least used STAB other than Poison and Steel.
Please log on and battle on the CaP battle server before assuming that Psychic is a rarely used attacking type. As Doug, Mag, and Aldaron have stated several times, Revenankth has become such a threatening force that several psychic types who would normally not use their STAB would resort to Psychic type moves to counter him. Why would we want another pokemon weak to it? I have also stated before that bringing up the said fighting resistance is irrelevent because I could then say Electric's resistance to electric is just as valuable. You can't prove that one resistance at this stage of the project completely outclasses the other.
3. Poison is the least common type in the OU tier, and the few BL poisons are Not pure utility.
Again, I state under your first point, as well as in my first post quoting you, that while there are few poison types in OU, the two that are are both very good pokemon. Gengar is easily one of the best sweepers in the game and Tentacruel is about as close to pure utility as you can get. Even the BL poison types, such as Roserade and Drapion, offer plenty of utility not found in electric types.
4. Electric pokemon in OU already have many utility options suggested by Smogon.
Refering to Mag's second post, most of the said "utility" movesets detract from the potential of the said electric pokemon. While they have access to utility, it's not like people are going to use, say, Magnezone to set up screens instead of concentrating on steel killing and sweeping. Jolteon is far too frail to wish pass effectively, and while Zapdos comes close, passing speed boosts is really the only way it can be called a true team supporter.
5. Poison is the worst STAB in the game. This is a positive because our mandate in creating this is Pure Utility. It is the time when STAB would be least needed as an offense.
How can you call that a positive? If Hippowdon did not have STAB on Earthquake, could it call itself the best Tyranitar counter? We have not specifically defined pure utility to non-offense, and thus, STAB does matter. If we build are pokemon defensively, having the STAB boost helps in defeating threats such as Gyarados. It also offers, as Aldaron stated, a non gimmick Charge Beam user, which is something we don't see at all in the current metagame.
