Wyverii's is the only one that has a head that looks like it's a rock. I'm sorry for the other people, but honestly, either dim your highlights and/or try to dither properly. There's some nice ideas for positions, but pixel-wise... You know the drill.

i agree with the sentiment that wyverii is awesome at spriting, specifically in her shading and pixeling...

but how the hell is atyroki in third!?

I slightly prefer Darth's sleak and aggressive front sprite but Wyv's totally beautiful backsprite won it over for me.

Wyverii gets my vote.

Because people don't take notice of the plain colours, shades and shapes on Darth Vader's sprite (or don't mind them) and are sold on the pose. Each to their own of course, but it's a sentiment I do not share.

Or because it shares more aesthetic elements common to D/P sprites than any of the other entries?

It's fine if you think Wyverii's sprite is the most aesthetically pleasing in general. After all, all art is (reasonably) subjective. However, we are making a pokemon, and I am going to vote for the sprite that looks most like it came from a pokemon game.

And yes, there is no mandate that says our sprite should look like it came from a pokemon game. However, since it's going to be played with other pokemon, have concept art that is intended to look like a pokemon, have a name in the pokemon style, have pokedex entries like a regular pokemon, etc. etc..... I'm going to vote for the entry that most looks like a pokemon sprite.

You could argue that the Mona Lisa is more aesthetically pleasing than Guernica. I don't mind, that would be your opinion; there's no way to prove one is better than the other. But, if the challenge were to create a painting in the cubist style, then Guernica would win hands down, and I'd consider anyone to think otherwise a fool.

And if you're going to underestimate the value of simplicity in shape, color, and design, then maybe you should brush up on your art basics...

(EDIT: Although, Wyverii's incredible backsprite makes the decision even more difficult...)

I'm puzzled on your 'more pokémon-style-sprite' argument. Enlighten me, why would it fit in better? Any comparisations at hand to back your argument up?

Two. I'm not underestimating those 'values' (in fact, usually I'm pretty much sold on simplicity) for as far as I'm concerned. I did not mention Wyverii's being more aesthetically pleasing at all (though I am of opinion it is, but [/care]). My point was; it's the only sprite that actually resembles a rock.

Why? As mentioned, the dithering and the highlights. You could argue DarthVader's sprite has a 'smooth' stone for a head, but smooth stones are not pointy. Go and ask wikipedia about the process.

The highlights speak for theirselves, as paintings deal with similar elements and you claim to know your shit on those. Although that was moreso directed at Atryoki's sprite than Darthvader's.

Actually I could say that the saturation of the colours in darthvader's sprite is lower than normally used within the official sprites (or duller if you prefer). This actually detracts from the normally cartoon image but in actually it's okay after all it's just a difference and there are a few exceptions within the games. Similar issues occur with every other sprite here whether you want to say that the sprite is too complex or too simple.

The gist of what i'm trying to say here is, nobody here has got anything that could really be truely a Nintendo sprite. We just don't know how exactly their process works and that makes it harder to emulate along with the pressures of the community. I repect people who go purist and obviously so do you but I think it's difficult to take your word seriously when none of the sprites really come close to the style you're talking about and telling which is more like that style is far harder.

Your decision though, after all I wish people would give Atyroki more votes. (I dislike voting for myself)

Edit: Wait, i'm the only competitor who voted for someone else.
