CAP 5 CAP 5 - Sprite Submissions

Hi everyone. I need your opinions on these sprites. Please comment and tell me which looks best.

Posting to let everyone know I have not given up on my submission, I just haven't had the time to work on it this week. I worked on them throughout the day today and fixed up(practically redid) the front sprites with the suggestions I read, and whipped up the back sprites, too:

I tried to fix the RBG look of the old sprite. I made the head smaller and increased the torso size to lessen the exaggeration of the pose. I changed the pose a bit too, and made the scythes somewhat sharper(yes, ALL of them; the bottom-left/upper-right scythes are closer to you). Opinions, suggestions, etc. are appreciated(though I may not get time to fix them until next weekend).

EDIT: @Kharozz: Lower the dither on the head/scythes, otherwise they look pretty good. The positioning or the left claw is a bit odd on the third one, though.

My only suggestion is to fix the upper-right and lower-left scythes, make the fronts "sharper" and shaplier so they look less like steel pillows in the front view.

also, add highlights on all crystals to match the ones on the eyes. Keep in mind the light source needs to be consistant with most pokemon.

I have seen a lot of sprites for this guy, and yours is amazing. I personally like how you took a bit of artistic merit and "humanized" the face of him.

That doesn't even make sense.

Its clearly based off of the original art, its just a different take. No one said that it has to be sharp and pointed. Its still an angled rock, still has the crystallized eyes, and the crumbled rock body with braces.

How does it have nothing to do with it? Because its eyes are bigger, and its not as sharp? Those hardly matter. The concept is still there.

With that said, I think you could make the scythes -slightly- sharper, because as it is, they look kinda lumpy. Mainly top right, and bottom left, as mention earlier. Sharpen those just a tad.

Also, your back sprite has a lighting issue. It seems the hand crystals are off in comparison to the eyes, but I could be seeing that wrong.
 
I think I know what the issue is with the eyes. I made the eyes more like actual eyes, so that they are actually looking AT you, not just staring blankly(that's why they look different from the scythe jewels, which are shining from the light source, the upper-left for the fronts and upper right for the backs). Therefore, the shades of the eye color are not in correspondence with the light source, but more are like a pupil and iris(which is why I added the small white specs to show a "gleam" from the light source). If that bugs people, I can change that, as well as change the scythe crystals to match the eyes. I'll also make the scythes sharper.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I can't really understand what you are trying to say. :/

These are extremely bad-ass. If this were in a game, it would have a freaky, scary cry. The pose is also better done than that of some other sprites that I've seen (which I felt was the main problems with those sprites).
I would love to see this in an actual game. Imagine, you're walking through Victory Road, it's dark and you're struggling to solve the puzzles, and then all of a sudden this shows up. You can't run and it sweeps your weakened team...

There is also much to be said for eyes that seem to be glaring right at you. The sentience of the eyes and the shape of the head deviate from the original vision of CAP 5, but they also make it more intimidating.
 
His pose looks really cool. IMO, I think that the eyes kind of look like bug eyes more than rockish, but that's just me. Otherwise, this pwns!

BTW, what do you mean "dither the head/scythes"?
 
Screw it, I'm bored, I'l bullshit up a sprite design for it, in spite of my less-than-stellar spriting skills. On a side note, this thing looks like an alien.

It looks like it will turn out well, my only question is the angle of the bottom right leg. It seems too far away from the body at that angle
 
Thanks. The bottom right leg is in the manner that we common folk would state as 'Hoofing Someone's Rear', and the toe, per se, is at the top of the limb. Yes, maybe it does seem a little bit far, but when we see this guy, who looks so much like MPH's Trace that one will call him Bouldrace, using Head Smash, his feet are quite the distance away.

EDITUM: I've sussed out a sprite palette out now, and from my dissections of the lumps, he's looking pretty good. I'll update when someone else posts or I can't be fucked waiting with the initial design with vague lighting.

Comments plz :D

The bulk of the sprite and the position set it apart from most of the other sprites; the back position is extremely unique because it contains more of the body than the others.

If there is a faction that prefers a bulky, true-to-its-rocky nature kind of CAP 5 sprite while also fearing one that looks to R/B/Y, this would likely appeal to them.

Also, the shiny back colors are awesome. They actually look like gems.
 
So, as promised, here be my first draft of the sprite, with basic colour palette and lighting hint. I look at the picture and say it's coming along nicely.

Yeah, there's quite a bit of work to do yet, but he's coming along nicely. Shiny colours will come once the major layout's done. I'll work more tomorrow, dithering and conjuring up some other colours, such as line colour.
 
Walking in Victory road.. with your very weakened team.

You come in a Encounter with a Rockmon! The screen flashes and starts the battle!

It looks very intimidating and you want to run! But you can't and since you pressed the "flee" button. It failed and the Rockmon just took your 2nd favorite poke with a Powerful Onyx blast. 120 BP with STAB.

You thought you could take it out with your last, but favorite pokemon, Charzard! Your incredibly noobish and frail Charzard used tackle!

You watch Rockmon's HP, hoping it would go to 0 and you can get out of Victory road. It didn't and it still in the Green bar.

Rockmon just charged and all the sudden your Game screen blackens out and Rockmon just used a Hyper beam in a Reverse color.

Watching your Charzard getting owned and going back to the PC Center.

But Wyverii's is so much better. :(

Just, crisper in general, I mean.

Next time Wyverii should submit her sprites later in the process so that they don't lose momentum like that!
