CAP 9 CAP 9 - Name Submissions

What about Umbrale combining umbra and whale?

Narwhal is awkward to begin with; I don't like the names that try to graft it onto something else. So many of the names in this thread are totally impossible to say.

Another thought is Morainger, combining moraine (the rocky earth left behind by receding glaciers) and ranger. I like this because CAP9 is big on navigating hazards. It also brings to mind some Latin words like moror (to hinder or prevent), which is very appropriate, and the relatives of mortuus (dead) and their descendants (mortality, mortify), which is appropriate to the Dark type.

This doesn't refer to the biology of the art exactly, but that's not a strict requirement. Consider the likes of Seaking, Heracross, etc.

Final Submission

Since it got a mention, I'm going with Oraboro as my name. It combines Orca with Burrow to make a badass name. It sounds really nice, isn't too complicated, and fits the art pretty nicely.
Horray for my influince!! :D
It really is a great name, and I think that the boroing (burrowing) concept of this pokemon is really pronounced, making this an ideal choice. Best of luck to you sir :D

Final Submission:

Narrakota (narwhal + corruption of terra cotta)

....yeah. The pronunciation reminds me of barracuda, and they both have that slick, dangerous feel to them, which makes it a very appropriate name for a Dark type, even a bulky one....pronounced NAR (A as in apple)-a-COAT-a.

You can pull out a couple other words from in there, too - terra inside terra cotta, and terror, suiting the Dark-type, falls in that double-R as well....

I think Rey is on to something with his Mobius suggestions. If you refine those thoughts a little more, I believe you could have a nice name there.

And no offense, but alot of these names are borderline cringe-worthy. There are two aspects to a name guys; how it sounds and how it looks. While alot of submissions are stroking that "lol latin+other foreign language roots" with other obscure references, others are combining common words in painful ways.

What it boils down to are that some of these not only sound awkward, but are almost painful to read as well. You guys just gotta not overthink it and come up with something that not only rolls off the tongue well, but is pleasing to the eyes too.

This is why Gnarwhirl has my support.

This is true, I sometimes forget this is Pokemon, where Beedrill, Krabby, Slaking and the like exist. Corny puns, obvious names/animal references work well I think.

Like Gnarwhirl, it's basically Narwhal with some flavour and a silent G.

Final submission

Krall

I was thinking something on the lines of a mixture of Kill and Drill and got Krill, but that doesn't really work. So I swapped "I" with "A" as "A" is the only vowel in Narwals.

Monodaunt - A comination of words. Comes from the scientific name of the narwhal (Monodon monoceros) and daunt.

Daunt - make (someone) feel intimidated or apprehensive. Seems like something a Dark Pokemon would do.

Dauntusk - daunt + tusk

Landrill could be cool. Obviously its Land+drill, it sounds quite nice because Land ends with the same letter/sound that drill starts with.

FINAL SUBMISSION:

Tremoby
(Tremor+Moby Dick)
tre-MO-bee

Why this is cool:

1. He would have some great nicknames: Tremo or even Mo. Who doesn't love the name Mo?
2. In the move Tremors (which is part of the name) giant man-eating worms pop out of the ground and eat you. On the CAP server, this guy pops out of the Ground and eats your secondary.
3. Moby Dick is more violent when he is harpooned. CAP9 does more damage when he is Burned.
---
Yes, I know it is early for a final submission, but I will be gone soon, so I wanted this to get nominated.

Final Submission - Terracol

Terra is obvious by now; col is the first half of the Spanish word for tusk, colmillo.

I would like to throw in the very simple Narrwall. Narr makes it look and seems Dark-type, wall for the secondary blocking. Pronounced just like the animal.

Also, I like Narwaru, a couple pages back. Sounds very Engrishy.

Final Submission

Nartrembul

I incorporated "narwhal"+"tremor" with influence of the word "nocturnal"

Spelled like that, I started with the base spelling of Nartrembal. Personally, I thought editing the spelling just honestly made it look cooler.

Coincidentally, the "tremor" the end of "nocturnal" looks like tremble, which CAP 9's intimidating appearence gives off that "tremble in my wake" sort of vibe.

I am by no means an active CAP enthusiast, I thought I came up with a really solid suggestion. If anyone wants to take my idea and run with it, or edit the spelling to something better sounding, please be my guest.

Don't ask me why, but the name Drillwhal is sticking in my head. Kinda cheesy (Drill + Narwhal), but it still sounds somewhat good.

Final Submission

Armadrilln

There's lots of ways you can see this..

Armageddon + Drill (you'll see where drill fits in)
Armour + Drilling (with the a instead of our in armour + the second i and the g knocked off in drilling)
I'm a Drillin' (with Arm instead of the I'm to give it more of a Texas pronunciation. The second i's knocked off 'cause it has to be. Plus I like the sound of it)

People have gotten to talking about Rey and his Mobius idea, but did any of you guys remember this post from the first page?

Mobyss
After Moby Dick and abyss.
Moby Dick is described as a fiendish, twisted creature, even called the Devil Incarnate.
He is also described to be supernatural, wich also fits with the whole Dark theme.

Abyss, seing as he lives deep under the ground. You can also say that all dark monsters comes from an abyss. Even the word sounds and have a evil feel, wich also fits with the Dark theme.

Personally, I really like this idea; piggybacking off of Rey's combination themes, however, nets us...

Molebyss

Alternatively is the option of spelling it Molbyss; after looking at it some, I liked the first spelling better than Molbyss.

I absolutely agree that simple names are the best, but I like Narbrawl better.

Final Submission

Driliathan
Drill + Leviathan

It fits the 10 character requirement, and I think it works well with the magnitude of CAP9 and to describe its characteristics (drills, giant part earth part dark whale).

I must say, I'm not too keen on a lot of the foreign-rooted words flying around here. This thing needs a simple, relevant name.

With that in mind my submission is FreeDrilly.

Effortlessly combining everyone's favourite whale-related film with the word drill.

Id like some feedback on Borewhal.

also Blubbafin

And i'm loving free Freedrilly a first that a pokemon should be named after a media sensation

I a have a couple of suggestions for this beast.

Tectark
(Tectonic + Dark)

Tectyuu
(Tectonic + yuu [part of the word for earth in Japanese])

Leviabor
(Leviathan + bore)

C + C please

Hehe, exactly :P But, im gonna stick with Mobyss as my Final Submission. Simply because i think Mobyss has a certain flow to it, and by spelling(and pronounce it) like Molebyss, for an example makes me connect the whale part of CAP9 with a mole... And really there isn't many animals more diffrent from eachother than a whale and mole. Specially a narwhal.
