CAP 9 CAP 9 - Name Submissions

I got a new idea Whamurrow which is a combo of Burrow, and and misspelling of Whale, which I got the idea of from the digimon Wamamon a whale digimon. Yes I like digimon. My other is Scotale any advice on what you guys like.

Whamorrow

I think as long as emphasis is on the "Wham", this is a brilliant name since "Wham" is associated with a hard hit and the "morrow" part can have very little emphasis on the "mo", whereas if it were "mu", it would be a bit harder to pronounce. I think this is a pretty good name.

No love or comments for Landozer?

I like Landozer.

Gnarwhirl's cool too, but the whispered 'h' brings to mind soft ice cream whenever I say it. This Pokemon would need something a little more brutal-looking like 'Gnarwurl' or something.

Scarwhal and Collosoil are also pretty neat.

This thread tends to get way more submissions than even the art threads, so it's tough to nab a comment for everybody.

Thank you, and I think that you are right, I'm going to change it now.

mobyss for the win, it also have has a literature reference as well as a pun on mob and the abyss, such as a lynch, mafia players would enjoy this.

I kinda wanna keep it simple with something like Drale A drill-whale? 1 syllable names aren't too common in pokemon though.

I like this stage of the concept.

My initial idea will be Unicrypt.

It is derived from the fact that the narwhal is a single-horned fish, uni-being a prefix, and a crypt, which is an underground chamber used to contain the deceased, this idea stemming from the fact that crypts are commonly stained with dark magic in many games and media.

Thanks for the support on Colossoil people!

Anyways, I'm liking Gnarwhirl because its genius. But I like simple stuff, so I'm liking fuzz's Darkquake. So many good names here.. Although I'm seeing a lot of names here that go out of the box. I've seen a post that combines the meaning of narhwal with spanish and french, forgot where though. Keep it simple imo.

These aren't my final submissions, just want c&c.

Coalidon

EDIT: Deck rearranged the letters so it doesn't sound as if <Deck> Odoncoali sounds like you're reciting a basketball roster

'Coalidoni' is a combination of Odintreti and Coal. Odontreti is the suborder containing Narwhals. Odontreti means "the toothed whales". Coal, as many know, is the black substance of burnt tree wood that stayed underground for thousands of years.

Modoceras

'Odoceras' is the combination of Odontreti and Monoceras. Odontreti, as stated before, is the Narwhal's suborder. It means "the toothed whales". Monoceras is the second part of the Narwhal's scientific name (the whole is Monodon monoceras). Monoceras means "one-horn" (the whole is "one-tooth one-horn").

Cotretidon

My last one (I swear). 'Cotretidon' is a combination of Corspe/Coal, Odontreti and Monodon. Narwhal is derived from Norse, where "nar" means "corspe" due to a narwhal's coloring giving it the look of a drowned sailor. Coal is black (Dark-typing) and comes from the ground. Monodon, as mentioned before, means "one-tooth". Monodon is also the first part of a Narwhal's scientific name.

My favorites are Modoceras and Cotretidon.

Since most of my submissions have Coal:

With enough pressure (members participating), heat (arguements) and time (time); this coal (beginning of CaP) is turned into a Diamond (finished result).

Okay throwing a few more ideas out there for some constructive criticism:

Blubbore
Blubber + Bore
Since he's a whale, and blubber kind of stops the secondary.
Bore describes its drilling prowess.

Faultron
Fault represents the quakes it makes, and it kind of sounds nice.

Epicentre
This is epic....

Tremorgue

Tremor + Morgue.
It makes tremors as it digs, and morgue is pretty self explanatory.

Narwall

Short, sweet, and to the point. It stops (or walls) the secondary, and it's a Narwhal. We've had Pokemon who's exact pronunciation was the same as a real animal, but with a pun at the end. (*cough*DEWGONG*cough*)

EDIT: Just thought of another gem:

Digdusk

It's like DigDug, that game. But Dusk because it digs at dusk because it's dark type.

EDIT2: OMG I just thought of another one.

Giantprick

Get it? Because it has a drill, that would cause GIANT PRICKS to appear it the ground. Plus he's a dark type, so he'd just be a giant prick to everyone!

While I'm at it

Sinisterra (sinister + terra)
Dangearth (danger + earth)
Calamigrou (calamity + ground)
Doomud (doom + mud)

Wharbiddon

A couple of plays on words here.

First off, reading it as one full word, it sounds a lot like "Forbidden", which is exactly what secondary moves will be when this guy comes on the field. It is also full of scars and is very warlike in its appearance, thus the prefix "Whar". The "Wha" is of course from Narwhal. "Wharbid" is also a play on "morbid", and "don" has the added effect of making it sound big and imposing.

Does it sounds better with one 'd' or two? "Wharbidon" vs. "Wharbiddon"

Of those two spellings, definitely go with two Ds. The first one looks like it should be pronounced WHAR-bid-on, while the second looks like whar-BID-don, which I think is what you want.

Anybody have any feedback on either of mine, Umbrale or Morainger? I tend to favor the second one, for the reasons in my earlier post, but I'm open to thoughts before I pick a final.

Landozer.

Subtle reference to GameFreak's Drill Dozer games. It rolls off the tongue nicely, it isn't complicated, there are no unnecessary silent letters or things used to pad it out, it is a nice portmanteau of Land and Dozer, and works even if you don't know about Drill Dozer (which, incidentally, was an excellent game, and well worth a play).

Expanding on this, instead of going with Landozer, you should implement the whale part somewhere in there, or it won't make sense. Nardozar sounds better than Nardozer imo, so I'd like to see how it looks.

Undermine

It's a drill Pokemon, so it's associated with mining and drilling into the ground. It also prevents secondary moves from being used, so it undermines them. The name also fits its dark characteristics.

I like the Gnarwurl alternate spelling. I don't know how to go about getting this submitted. Do I change mine, that was supposedly final (lol, guilty of rushing it) or does Cartoons! take it?

I'm not going to get to creative here...

Final

Narwhal

Narwhal itself is such a cool name. It's spelling is already unique, in a good way. It is what it is.

Okay, thanks for the feedback. I was leaning towards 2 as well because the word just looks better that way. But actually, I WAS going for WHAR having the emphasis, as it sounds more like a pokemon name that way. Do the 2 D's really make it look like the BID has the emphasis? If so, then I guess it's best to change it.

As for your submissions, I think Umbrale is definitely the simpler of the two, but it sounds too much like Umbreon. Morainger is a cool concept, but I think most people will not catch the reference to "moraine". Also, the word 'rain' in the name is misleading, as this has nothing to do with water.

I like it! But it's EXACTLY an english word. See if you can make a pun out of it somehow. That'll make it more pokemon-like.

What if I added the E and made it Moraineger. That is still within 10 characters and should be more obvious. Do people like that better?
