I did a bit more work on my sprite. I still haven't done any shading, and the colors are still not set. But, I filled in the mouth and added body drills, which required me to move some stuff around.

This is turning out a lot meaner-looking than I originally intended. I'm definitely going for an angry look, but this might be a bit too much of a badass...

Here's a basic sketch of the pose for my sprite:

Also, China's internet blocks certain sites like imageshack from working, so if you're using that, then I can't see your sprites. It's weird, but sites like Facebook and Youtube are also banned from China. Photobucket still works though.

Well so far my favourite one is Cartoons´ but (without insulting anyone) i think no one has got the concept of the pokemon at full or at least as i got it. Cartoons, you are the nearest there but i pictured the narwhale as a pridefull yet full of energy pokemon and all of the bulk that you gave it youst doesn´t quite fit it (it is the best one yet though). If i knew something about spriting i would meke it look dangerous yet look really fast like a mix between cartoon´s sprite and the roadrunner (if someone gets me)

Might as well post what I have at this point in time,

May or may not keep, depending on the feedback I get. The ground hasn't been done yet so please ignore that. Any comments and critique are greatly appreciated- this is pretty much my first sprite ever so I'm sure there's loads of room for improvement (most notably on those goddamn teeth argh).

Aragornbird, that's a great pose, captures the bulk, agility and everything else of the Pokémon beautifully.
From your entries in previous CAP's I have no doubt that you'll do it VERY well also. Looking good so far.

Doug, the lower jaw seems a tad, misproportioned to the upper, but that could just be me.

Defno, I prefer the version with a tail, the back of the Pokémon just looks, unfinished without it.

It looks pretty stiff and lifeless to me, perspective seems off, too. It needs a dynamic pose/expression.

Magic.

Anyways, there are some really good sprites up here. The notable ones I see are Cartoons!, KoA's, Wyv's, Doug's and A-Bird's. KoA's, Cartoons!'s and Wyv's look very good while Doug's and A-Bird's are shaping up nicely. There are some others, just can't remember.

You can't reserve a sprite pose with art, you need an actual sprite work in progress. Heck, you really can't reserve a "pose" to begin with, since a lot of the poses are similar.

I redid the fins so that they are more arm-like and accurate to the original design. I might add the "jumping-out-of-sand" effect again later, but I'm not sure.

Chaos- your original was definitely my fav. The "jumping-out-of-sand" effect (which I would definitely put back in) was what helped me finally get Cyzir's vision w/this CAP. It made me love the tail drill and everything. With the fins being more arm-like now though, they either need to be extended forward more, like a grab, or back, like at the end of a butterfly stroke. This will better help illustrate the propulsion your dynamic pose suggest, imo.

WOW! I love this WIP, its got a gret dynamic pose, looks menacing enough to alude to its bulk and offence, i think this is a great contender and id love to see it chosen as the winner!

Alright, I edited my above post. Better? Personally, I like the fins/arms as they are now. They're supposed to look something like this.
I definitely like that you put the sand back in. That's such a great detail. As for the arms, I see where your coming from. However, the football player is stationary, and so that arm position makes sense. Your sprite isn't though and so, to me, it seems too static. It would be like running without moving your arms. The sprite still looks really good though and if this is what works best for you, run with it.

I think the sand had to be removed in order to maintain a single outline. Putting it back in, but connecting the 2 shapes with a trail of sand might work.

yeah i prefer this arm actually. the one more like a fin oddly connected to the back drill in a way where you eye was brought to it instead of the face. also the drills/spikes look amazing great work!

I think finally got my sprite to a decent level. =D

It was loosely based on vampire/zombieness. My ground was inspired by Dugtrio, but how does it tie in with the outline rule exactly? Feedback would be appreciated.

Yeah dude...I live in China, and I can only see half the art being posted. Tinypic works as well, or you can do what I do, upload to an album on your profile and then post it from there.

I have seen some great sprites so far, keep up the good work!

Okay I'm open to help out anyone with making the shinnies if they are low on time, or just don't want to do it. I was going to enter, but I'm dreadful at scratching.

My attempt so far. C & C much welcome, and if someone could help me position the teeth I would be extremely grateful. :)

Chaos, I think I actually liked the fin better, perhaps if only because its position complimented the line of action better. Yours is still one of my favorite in the thread though.

I'm not sure how people felt about my colours, considering the talk that's been going around concerning the green back.
Lord Jesseus was kind enough to send me a slight color edit here:

with the original on the left.

I'd also made a color edit of my own.

Anyone think these alterations are necessary? Or should I stick with the first color scheme?

I've also made a version of the fairer sex with the inevitable shortening of the horn.

@Cartoons: There isn't much I can say about the color differences, they're too close together in the spectrum to be of any real importance. Your brown, however, needs to be the same as the first pic. I saw a slight addition of red in your new coloration and I think it derides too far from Cyzir's artwork.

@Chaos: Yours is pretty neat too. The big drill is still a little marshmallow-like but its no big deal. One thing that is interestingly different about yours is that the mouth is shut, closed, not open. This isn't killing it completely, and it may be just me. I suggest you try it with the mouth open, if its not too much trouble. He just looks too bottled-up.
Your shiny is ok.
