Career Aspirations

I've developed a sort of love/hate relationship with physics: (same with math, my other major) I hate it when I can't figure out the answer to a problem, then when I finally solve it I love the feeling of accomplishment you get.

What I really like is working in the lab, though. I spent a summer working at a national particle accelerator facility, and I'm doing some nuclear/particle physics research with one of my professors this summer. It's a blast.

Hahaha, yes it really sucks when you've tried every approach, only to find out the answer was right under your nose.. But you're right in saying that when you do get the answer to a very difficult problem, you feel very good about yourself.

Its comparable to programming, in a way, when you suddenly come up with the statement that makes the program work, even if you didn't listen to the teacher.

I plan on being a vagabond, traveling the world and living off my various investments. Not the most secure life but much more fulfilling. While most people would consider it irresponsible, I actually have alot of cash saved up, not including the stock I have in various companies. If all else fails, I'm a licensed nurse practitioner.

Wait until you take a quantum course in college... if you still like it, then you'll be able to tell you truly have a passion for it. Quantum weeds out quite a few physics majors ; )

I've heard that, but I don't think that it will faze me. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I want to become an artist/architect.

I'd also like to work in the video game industry.

Can't decide which I'd rather do, so I guess I'll do both eventually.

ps: I posted so I could have all boards in Socialization in the Empire would have the last post made by me. Because I don't post enough anymore, do I, DM?

I'm entering my Freshman year at Washington University in St. Louis (any St. Louisians out there?) in the engineering school. Looking pretty seriously at Civil for now, but I'd really like to be able to get a minor or double major in something in the school of Arts and Sciences because that's where my true passion is. I'd love to take writing classes, but I know it's not feasible as a profession. Fortunately, I do love physics and engineering from what I've been exposed to so I'm not making a huge sacrifice. Just... It would be nice.

Not really too sure. I'm definitely thinking of working in a science of some kind, most likely chemistry, being the science I'm probably best at. Recently took AS-Level exams, so I'll decide what to do when I get the results.

I'm going back to college. Again. For the third year running (maybe I'll actually last until christmas this time) then I don't know what I want to do. Gap year maybe (though I've just had two of those) or just going to Uni. Or maybe not uni. I don't know.

My aspirations aren't that high. I would like to do something with computers that's not too appallingly tedious. I imagine I'll end up as a software developer (which I do like). I just want to be able to afford a semi-decent semi-decent-SIZED flat/house and go and live with or near to my boyfriend and be able to eat nice food and go out and get drunk and have the internet in my bedroom.

In a perfect world I'd be a museum curator, because I adore Classical stuff, but that's notoriously underpaid and ridiculously few vacancies, so I'll go with the easier option and spend the rest of my life regretting it I think

I may be old enough to be a father to most of you though believe it or not I recently went back to school to pursue a master's degree in Computer Science, and all that's left now is an individual non-thesis project.

Considering something in graphic designs and stuff but as programs for that stuff make those things easier to do, I don't know if that's the best field to pursue.

Two more years of undergrad followed by law school. I'm aiming to get accepted into a t1 school (Columbia, NYU, Yale, UChicago ideally), so we'll see how the LSAT goes!

Ultimately I'd like to wind up working out of a private practice as a criminal defense attorney, which is not only something I feel I would genuinely enjoy quite a bit, but is also an extremely high-paying job.

I just took the LSAT on Monday. Fun stuff. Like you I'm aiming for top6 schools. In my preptests I was picking up 180s, but I felt the real deal was a bit harder than I anticipated it would be. Plus I choked on the first section initially (though I think I managed to correct my mistakes) which hurt my confidence.

I'm currently majoring in engineering, but that's mainly because I had multiple arguments with my parents (I'm more or less completely financially dependent on them atm) about an "appropriate" major all through high school and up until the summer before I started college. They basically want me to major in a field that will be relatively easy to find a job with a decent pay. I can't say I hate engineering, but I do have other ideas in mind...

In a perfect world, I'd love to go to Europe and study fashion design or architecture, or do concept art for a video game design team. I would say my art skills are above average, but I really don't think they're good enough for me to rely completely on them to make a living. So realistically speaking, I think I'm going to save up as much money as I can with an engineering job, and then try to start my own line of dark-humored greeting cards. That, or open my own bakery because I love making desserts.
