Chansey [QC 3/3]

hint: use eviolite

QC 0/2
GP 0/2
____________________

[overview]

  • incredible Hp and sp. def, especially for a prevo
  • fail defense patched up by eviolite
  • can't really attack besides seismic toss / status
  • excellent team supporter
[SET]
Name: Wish
Move 1: Wish
Move 2: Protect / Softboiled
Move 3: Seismic Toss
Move 4: Toxic
Item: Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[set comments]

  • Eviolite boosts Chansey's defense and special defense by 50%, giving it effective stats of 704 / 179 / 371
  • Chansey can now pass incredible 350 HP wishes to her teammates
  • Seismic Toss allows Chansey to 3-4HKO the majority of the Pokemon it walls, while Toxic lets her outstall anything

[additional comments]

  • Softboiled is useful for instant healing, while protect + wish gives the same thing (albeit over 2 turns) and can increase Toxic damage
  • Thunder Wave can be used to provide team support over Toxic, but then Chansey is almost helpless in the face of a ghost
  • 252 Def / 252 SpD / 4 HP can be used for more SpD but is less efficient overall
  • This set works excellently with defensive Pokemon who lack recovery, like Wobbufett
  • it can also provide LO and recoil Pokemon with second lives, like Choice Staraptor
  • Wish is unfortunately almost impossible to get on wi-fi, as it is from a 2002 event (iirc)

[SET]
Name: Cleric
Move 1: Aromatherapy
Move 2: Softboiled
Move 3: Seismic Toss
Move 4: Thunder Wave / Toxic
Item: Evolite
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[set comments]

  • This set focuses on ridding your teammates of status with aromatherapy instead of healing them with wish
  • Softboiled is an instant 50% recovery, which is useful when stalling
  • Seismic toss is, again, chansey's most reliable source of damage output

[additional comments]

  • This set works excellently with bulky Pokemon who use rest, like Suicune - They heal, switch out to Chansey, and Chansey heals them with aromatherapy
  • Heal bell is compatible with Wish, and as such Chansey can perform complete team support. However, this leaves Chansey extremely vulnerable to physical attacks, lacking instant recovery.
  • Thunderwave is suggested over Toxic because this Chansey is more about providing team support than out-stalling pokemon. However feel free to use either depending on what your team needs.

[other options]

  • Chansey has an excellent support movepool, but suffers somewhat from 4-moveslot syndrome and has god-awful attacking stats
  • If you need to throw Stealth Rock on your team, Chansey can reliably set it up
  • Chansey can also utilize Counter to great effect, taking a powerful hit and retaliating for 400 + damage
  • Chansey can also use Gravity on a gravity-based team
  • Sing is a 55% accurate sleep inducer, use it at your own risk BUT it becomes a lot more accurate under Gravity
  • Lastly, Chansey has access to Reflect + Light Screen and when used in conjunction with Healing Wish, Chansey can almost guarantee a Pokemon's setup.
[checks and counters]

  • Even with Eviolite, Chansey's base 5 defense shows. Powerful physical attacks will often 2HKO, and Fighting-type attacks can OHKO on occasion.
  • As such, powerful physical attackers such as Staraptor, Heracross, Arcanine, and ko can make mincemeat of Chansey
  • Chansey must also beware leech seed, as it will heal 88 HP per turn
  • Fast Taunters like Misdreavus can screw over Chansey, as can 404 HP mons with Substitute

[dream world]

  • worthless in singles; worse than serene grace and no attacking moves.

Thunder Wave, Stealth Rock and Counter should definitely be mentioned as other options. Sing is probably the only other move I could see on a competitive Chansey, although it does have the awesome Reflect + Light Screen + Healing Wish combo.

This thing has such a great movepool but no attacking stats to abuse it with =[

going to pull a TorchicBlaziken here and complain about spelling.

It's Eviolite, not Evolite.

perhaps an alternate spread of 252 Def / 252 SpD / 4 HP?

Otherwise, mention somewhere that wish is an event move that doesn't physically exist on chansey anymore; you're not using it on Wifi without hacking.

Uhhh... T-Wave needs a slash with Toxic.

I think Cleric deserves a set.

[SET]

Move 3: Seismic Toss
Move 4: Thunder Wave / Toxic

This set is more about keeping your teammates free of status, rather than keeping their HP high. It works really well with teammates that use Rest such as Suicune. I put Thunder Wave first because it cripples Pokemon which is more helpful for other Pokemon rather than Toxic which is useful for stalling, which Chansey usually does on its own. I could be wrong though.

Stealth Rock definitely deserves an Other Options mention.

Also maybe max SpDef could get an Other Options mention too, to be an amazing Special wall. Although with all the physical attackers running around its probably not a good idea.

Charm is cool.

Chansey is a good gravity user.

Psych Up helps it beat Calm Mind users.

Healing Wish could get Other Options.

Refresh could work if your Eviolite is gone. Extremely gimmicky though xD

Chansey is actually a pretty bad gravity user; all it does is make levitating pokemon affected by toxic spikes (which is a very high price for a moveslot that could well be filled up by... toxic)

TBH Gravity is inherently pretty bad.

Also, Mooo, I presume you mean Recycle and not Refresh?

That's why it's in other options. I've built decent Gravity teams before, they're just usually inferior to regular teams. The point is that Chansey w/ Gravity can provide team support.

It's better than Recycle Chansey.

Unfortunately, aromatherapy is incompatible with wish.
Heal Bell and Wish are legal together, so it's possible to use Wish on the cleric set. Not necessarily a good idea, but possible.

Yeah I meant recycle.

Also Chansey gets Sing, which has like 91% accuracy under Gravity. Also it's amazingly bulky to it can set up gravity with ease.

It looks good but the counters section is just plain wrong.

Even with Eviolite, Chansey's base 5 defense shows. Powerful physical attacks will often 2HKO, and Fighting-type attacks can OHKO on occasion.
You'll be hard pressed to find a ton of physical Pokemon who even outright 2HKO Chansey. For example, Jolly Arcanine and Mamoswine can't even reliably 2HKO Chansey most of the time. So if Chansey faces them both 1 on 1, it will win. You'll be hardpressed to fighting move that even OHKOes Chansey. Only STABBed high power fighting moves with a boosting item will OHKO Chansey.

Reword it like so "Chansey is vulnerable to being 2HKOed by extremely powerful physical attacks when hazards are in play etc. etc."

QC APPROVED (1/3)

Adding to what PK Gaming said, change the Misdreavus mention to Mismagius. Replace the leech seed mention with toxic spikes, which lets many special attackers beat their #1 counter. Sure, seeding Chansey is cool, but not a way to actually beat it.

QC APPROVED 2/3

I'd actually write out that it gets Healer from the Dream World, some people wont know what it is, also it still says Misdrevous in C&C
