Survivor Circus Survivor Season IV: WON BY DLE, EPISODIC RECAP IN DISCORD READ OP

On June 3rd, a player was discovered to have been in game-related conversation with a spectator. This behavior is banned and has been emphasized in posts 1 and 2 in this thread outside of the ruleset.

In addition, at the start of the game, I reached out to this player and informed him that he should pay special care not to talk to spectators of the game. Nonetheless, this player lied to me and rssp until he was found out about this.

This rule is very important to the integrity of the game. Spectators have privileged knowledge about inter-player relationships and about the game itself. If it were available to survivors then the integrity of the game would obviously be seriously damaged.

rssp and I do not know what kind of information was provided to Umbreon. When Umbreon was asked for a full log with this spectator, he took a very long time. Speaking as the point of contact with him at this time, I strongly suspect that the log provided was edited.

To me, the information provided to this player is not even so important. There is a certain element of trust required among all parties in a game such as this. Lots of rules are in fact unenforceable: I cannot tell if you talk strategy with someone on the other tribe, nor can I tell if someone in FTC tries to convince a juror in private.

Even in the best case scenario (which I do not think is the one we are in), it remains the case that both player and spectator knowingly and consciously violated a rule that I felt was very important. Umbreon knew about this rule because I stressed it to him individually on May 21st, and when confronted earlier today he admitted to this knowledge. Consequently, I do not believe that a warning will strengthen Umbreon's respect for the rules of this game.

There is also the matter of Umbreon admitting to both me and the spectator that he has been playing this game purely with the intent of supporting an ally to win, and with no desire to win himself (I didn't know about this until the swap, otherwise he DEFINITELY would not be in this game). While this is not technically a punishable offense, it certainly does not do him any favors.

Effective immediately, Umbreon will be replaced by Ullar. This is not an ideal solution as this player has already participated in several tribal councils. But at the very least, I can take the necessary steps to prevent the game from being tampered with in the future, and to keep the game going.

My sincerest apologies for my error in casting to the three players who were cut from the playerlist: FormerHope, Airwind, and Toni. My apologies to the players of this game for letting this player into the playerlist: Jalmont, DLE, Wolv, Trace, Hannah, 3P1K, Zorbees, Viper, Alore, RODAN, IFML, Aura, AJ, KoC, Leet, Lanny, and Flyhn. My thanks to the several circus mods who I bugged, and to my spectacular cohost rssp who I have asked to defer to me on this decision.

I do not think that anybody remaining in this game needs to be given this warning, but I'll give it nonetheless. Please follow the rules of the game. I've worked incredibly hard on creating interesting challenges and an interesting environment to play forum survivor in. Just have fun! It is not so difficult.

In addition, I am happy to make an announcement I had previously planned for merge: The winner of Circus Survivor Season IV will win $100 to be donated to a charity of our mutual choice.

I'll give the new tribe Rufflet time to adjust to the inclusion of their new member. The game will resume at 7pm central time tomorrow.

The results of the previous tribal council for Tribe Rufflets, where IFML was voted out, will be upheld for lack of a better option.

im sorry but having someone sub in 1/3rd of the way into the game is complete bullshit. its such a huge advantage in a single player game of social dynamics like survivor.

if someone gets dqed in real survivor no one is brought in to replace them, because it would be insanely unfair to put someone who hasn't had to play the first third of the game in.

i really think that ullar should not be allowed to sub in and we skip f13 entirely, no offense to ullar - its just completely unfair to the rest of the players who have had to, you know, actually play this entire time.

this makes me genuinely really annoyed

I don't see the problem?

I am not particularly invested in whichever outcome is decided (especially so since I'm not in the most affected tribe), but mostly just to play devil's advocate (although I think this opinion lies closer to where I stand on things)

Viewing this like an FFA where someone gets information they shouldn't, or does something somewhat outside the bounds of the rules but don't completely destroy the integrity of the game, or is getting inactive, gets subbed out instead of modkilled almost certainly. The person subbing in often has difficulty integrating based on whatever social dealings the previous player made, but that's inherently fine; it can risk changing social dynamics of alliances, but there's no intent of harm specifically for some unpredictable "twist", or whatever. It gives a person that wouldn't otherwise play a chance to play, with said player realizing they're at an inherently odd position given their late entry.

I also fail to see how there's some appreciable difference in complaint between "x player is being modkilled" and "x player is being modreplaced"; both inherently change game dynamics and alliances, but I think few would argue that circumstances don't exist where someone ought be removed by a mod.

I'm happy to be convinced otherwise and I'm fine with just skipping f13 if this is what more people want than not, but I really do not see what the issue is. If you don't want the sub in, vote them out/kill them/etc.

In a standard U.S season of Survivor, the player would be taken out of the game and not replaced. I get that this is forum Survivor, and I am not playing, but I would recommend not subbing out Umbreon. Of course, this is up to the hosts but I agree with RODAN and think it would be more fair to the other players.

Edit: by not subbing out Umbreon, I mean having him pulled from the game.

I understand it being different than the show, but I also feel as though the game being online fundamentally changes how the game can (although perhaps not “should”) operate. The logistics of fairly choosing a substitute, as well as the expense of flying them to a physical location, as well as the nature of bonds irl over living conditions etc being fundamentally different than those over the internet I think moreso explain the lack of subbing in the show rather than its inherent lack of fairness.

My personal opinion is that a sub is fine here. Of course people will be disadvantaged by a sub...but also, if this were any other game with a single winner, everyone else would be disadvantaged when a guy is replaced instead of killed. But we replace anyways in those situations. I would also love for more people to get a chance to play the game that I've created. My cohost agrees with me on this subject as well, with the added point that moving the game one step closer towards merge (and decreasing # of redemption island challenges by 1) affects game balance and strategy even more than possibly changing the social relationships in the tribe.

That being said, our opinions do not matter here because we've polled everyone on Tribe Rufflets and unanimously they have agreed that they do not want a replacement for Umbreon's slot. We make the game for the playerbase, so on this issue we will happily do what you guys think is best. (In addition, since a majority on Tribe Rufflets have agreed to it, I'm just going to view it as Rufflets losing and yall voting out Ullar)

Ullar, thanks for playing. Hope you enjoyed your time. You're a hero for subbing in lmao.

I can confirm that there was no twist or merge planned at Final 12. The countdown was to the Final 12 challenge, which has been moved now to Final 11 because of its importance to the game. You'll get to see it soon, at 7pm central time.

Rufflets are now down to four members: Alore, Aura, RODAN, and Viper. Vullabies remain at seven.

Rules for scoring:

Players submit the highest level completed (i.e. a discrete number between 1 and 8). Scoring will be LEXICOGRAPHIC by highest level reached on each tribe.

For example, if Rufflets have 1 player who has cleared C.R., and Vullabies have none, then regardless of what the other people got on either tribe then Rufflets will win. Even if everyone else on Rufflets literally didn't participate.

Similarly, if Rufflets have 2 players who cleared C.R. and Vullabies have 1, then Rufflets will win.

If the number of people who cleared C.R. are the same on both tribe, then we look at the number of people on each tribe who have cleared Tigger. And then Owl. and so on.

Rules for submission PLEASE READ THIS:

To show your highest level reached, you must submit TWO screenshots containing the following:
  1. Stage selection screen in the game, with the url of the game and a part of your discord conversation with me (Hal) clearly visible
  2. A SUCCESSFUL SCOREBOARD SCREEN FOR THE HIGHEST COMPLETED LEVEL, with the url of the game and a part of your discord conversation with me (Hal) clearly visible. You get to see a score screen with a bunch of stats after you complete a level. After you complete a level, TAKE THIS SCREENSHOT OF THE SCOREBOARD OR ELSE ALL OF YOUR WORK WILL BE WASTED. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COME BACK TO THIS PAGE This is what I'm talking about (although obviously this attempt was unsucessful).
I'm going to be super clear about this because it's important. Say your highest level reached is Roo. This means that you have to take a picture of your stage selection screen (which should have stages 1 thru 4 available) and most importantly, a picture of your scoreboard on a completion of Piglet. Both pictures must have url visible, and discord conversation with me visible.

If you complete a level, take a valid screenshot of the scoreboard! Get into the habit. Don't let a tragedy occur.

It goes without saying that you may not alter screenshots or cheat the game. Even though you will want to, very badly.
