Crisis Core V3 [Won by Melvni]

@skylight, Confirming what punchshroom said. I'm sorry but I said I'd consider rules learnt from now on :s.

Ok, updated the leaderboards with round 1 results, inform me if I've made any mistake. Round 2 will end tomorrow evening so those who have made reservations and others who still want to participate should post soon.

Warning, round 3 will be destructive ! Legends say there is only one mon in NU that can counter the next core alone (but legends being me could be wrong). Be there tomorrow evening (EST) if you want to be the first to find it ;) (It will be hard to find).

Bronzor @ Eviolite
Trait: Levitate

Bold Nature

Bastiodon @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
252 HP / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
-Roar
-Metal Burst
-Toxic
-Rest

Damn, I wish I could post a one-Pokemon core, but Bronzor is disappointingly weak.

Bronzor is the boss of this core because it can switch into every single move the opposing core possesses, taking shit damage from Icicle Crash and Brave Bird.

The main plan is to get Bronzor into Piloswine and use Toxic, and Bastiodon is there to facilitate this. I’ll first consider that Piloswine is on the field. Bronzor switches into anything Piloswine has, and takes only about 13% from Icicle Crash. Bronzor is then free to Toxic whatever. If Toxic hits, it sparks a boring stall war between Bronzor and Piloswine, where Piloswine is sure to lose. From there, Bronzor can either choose to wear down Piloswine with Flash Cannon, or spam Toxic to try and catch a Braviary switch in. Every time Bronzor’s HP decreases to below 50%, it is time to rest up for fear of flinches.

If Piloswine switches to Braviary instead of staying in, good, because Braviary will take a Toxic to the face and Bronzor can stall out Braviary without even needing Bastiodon. Braviary’s boosts will be futile because of Psych Up, and even with one boost more than Bronzor, will still deal pitiful damage.

252+ Atk Piloswine Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Eviolite (custom): 37-44 (11.63 - 13.83%) -- possible 7HKO after Stealth Rock

+1 0 Atk Braviary Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Eviolite (custom): 67-80 (21.06 - 25.15%) -- possible 4HKO after Stealth Rock

If Braviary starts on the field, it is a different story. While Bronzor can easily tank every single shit that Braviary throws at it thanks to Psych Up and Rest, it can’t do shit back to Braviary because it is piss weak at attacking. That’s where his partner-in-crime, Bastardon, steps in. Bastiodon can switch into Brave Bird freely and Roar away Braviary and its boosts and Substitute. Afterwards, Piloswine will be dragged out (because we are assuming that Braviary and Pilo are the only ones on the opponent’s team). The switch to Bronzor is then made, and the first scenario is repeated.

Considering the first scenario, after Piloswine dies. Braviary then switches in and Bronzor can’t do shit. What next? Of course, Bastiodon steps in. Even with +6 Atk, Braviary fails to scratch Bastiodon’s Rock/Steel-plated armour and slowly watches its Substitutes die to Metal Bursting. When Braviary’s health is too low to Sub some more, it will be forced to Roost. At this point, Bastiodon simply uses Toxic and slowly whittles down Braviary’s HP. Protect allows Bastiodon to reuse Sturdy after switching into SR, but who needs Sturdy when it is taking 25% off a +6 Braviary?

After tanking a few hits, Bastiodon will be free to take a nice nap before waking up almost unharmed.

+6 0 Atk Braviary Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Bastiodon: 76-89 (23.45 - 27.46%) -- guaranteed 5HKO after Stealth Rock

Articuno @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Toxic
- Haze
- Ice Beam

Articuno DGAF about its 4x weakness to Stealth Rock when it has those sexy 90/100/125 defenses backing it up and Base 85 Speed so it doesn't even need to invest to outspeed these two (206 naturally vs 200 for Braviary). Braviary will never be attacking with more than +0 because Articuno outspeeds, but I'll include the +1 calc anyway:

Piloswine:
252+ Icicle Crash vs 252/252+ Articuno in air: 24-28%
252+ Ice Shard vs 252/252+ Articuno in air: 11-13%
252+ Earthquake vs 252/252+ Articuno roosting: 28-33%

Braviary:
+0 Brave Bird vs 252/252+ Articuno: 28-34%
+1 Brave Bird vs 252/252+ Articuno: 43-51%

Articuno:
4 Ice Beam vs 252/240+ Braviary: 43-50%
4 Ice Beam vs 240/0 Thick Fat Piloswine: 12-14%

Scenarios:

Piloswine is out worst case scenario:
Turn 1.) Articuno switches in, takes Stealth Rock damage, is hit by max damage Icicle Crash, and has lefties recovery, leaving it at about 28%.
Turn 2.) Articuno uses Roost and is hit by Earthquake, leaving it at 51%
Turn 3.) Articuno uses Toxic and is hit by Icicle Crash, leaving Piloswine badly poisoned and Articuno at about 29%
Turn 4.) Articuno uses Roost and is hit by Earthquake, leaving it at about 52%
Turn [the rest of the turns till Piloswine dies or switches out]) Articuno uses a combo of Roost and Ice Beam to kill Piloswine with Toxic damage while remaining at high HP
Turn [the turns after Braviary is in].) Toxic Braviary, haze it if it tries to boost, and kill it with Ice Beam + Toxic damage

Braviary is out and uses Bulk Up turn one:
Turn 1.) Articuno switches in on Bulk Up and is now at 56% against +1 Braviary
Turn 2.) Articuno uses Haze and Braviary either Bulks Up again, Subs, or Attacks. In the first case, Haze has 48 PP while Bulk Up only has 32 so Articuno is winning, in the second, Articuno can just use Ice Beam to break Braviary's Subs until it is too low on HP to make one or does something else, at which point it can be Toxiced, and in the third with max damage Articuno is at about 28% min.
Turn 3.) if situations 1 or 2, do like was said earlier. if situation three, Roost out of KO range and use the correct move depending on what Braviary does
Turn 4 and later.) keep reacting to Braviary until you eventually Toxic it and wear it down, rinse and repeat with Piloswine

Braviary uses Sub or Brave Bird Turn One:
These are basically the same as the first situation except with a slightly altered turn order. If Braviary subs, hit it with Ice Beam until it doesn't or can't, then Toxic, Ice Beam, Haze, or Roost depending on circumstances like those laid out above. If Braviary Brave Birds, Roost then Toxic, Ice Beam, Haze, or Roost depending on circumstances like those laid out above.

Round 2 over, I'll compile points soon. Now enough with the easy stuff where you can just find a poke with a correct defensive typing and invest max in the proper defence, today I present you a real manly core !

Round 3

Sawk (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP

Drifblim (F) @ Ghost Gem
Trait: Unburden
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Calm Mind
- Substitute

No hazards on both sides of the field. I've only found one mon to counter it alone myself, props to whoever finds it (or a different one).

Reminder: On the turn you send your poke in, the opponent could double switch, not just attack !

EDIT: leaderboards now updated with round 2 results, contact me if I've made a mistake.

Wailord @ Choice Specs
Trait: Oblivious
EVs: 76 Def / 252 Spa / 180 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Surf

Wailord is evd so it outspeeds bird. You switch in Cottonee. Encore Piloswine into whatever and let Cottonee die. If it used SR, then go out into Wailord and you 2HKO Braviary with hydro pump. Encore Braviary into any of its moves. If its sub, you switch out to Wailord and break its sub until it dies. Surf is for breaking bird's subs when you dont wanna miss, but in every other situation Hydro Pump. Then you ko Piloswine. If it Brave Birds, Wailord takes a Brave Bird and KOs everything.

GGGGGG

This was for the one with braviary + piloswine

first you let swanna die and then use liepard's prankster fly to avoid any hits and then land last due to iron ball. the opponent can't touch you.

That joke is only funny once. Now things are getting ridiculous. Swanna can't even switch into Sawk's Stone Edge.

252+ Atk Choice Band Sawk Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Swanna: 504-594 (173.19 - 204.12%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Reserving Tauros. Yeah, one pokemon. I'm gonna go nuts. At least it's not a Steel-type.

128.png
chopleberry.png

Tauros @ Chople Berry
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 148 HP / 200 Atk / 160 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Zen Headbutt
- Rock Slide / Wild Charge
- Work Up
- Substitute / Return

Tauros combines high speed, good (but could be better) power, an excellent ability, acceptable coverage and decent bulk. Frankly that's quite enough to deal with quite a number of pokemon, but let's see how Tauros can stand up to this fearsome core, as one pokemon is brutally powerful while the other can be blazingly fast.

252Atk Choice Band -1 Sawk (Neutral) Close Combat vs 148HP/0Def Chople Berry Tauros (Neutral): 60% - 71% (199 - 235 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.
252Atk Choice Band Mold Breaker Sawk (Neutral) Earthquake vs 148HP/0Def Tauros (Neutral): 50% - 59% (166 - 196 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.
252Atk Choice Band -1 Mold Breaker Sawk (Neutral) Earthquake vs 148HP/0Def Tauros (Neutral): 33% - 39% (111 - 131 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO.
252 SpA Drifblim Thunderbolt vs. 148 HP / 0 SpD Tauros: 108-128 (32.92 - 39.02%) -- 99.93% chance to 3HKO
Chople Berry is the crux of Tauros's success, which combined with Intimidate grants the bull the ability to switch into Sawk, taking advantage of the fact that both Sawk and Blimp do not run attack boosting natures well since their attacks can fail to 3HKO. Also, note the can when I talked about Drifblim's speed: Tauros's speed and typing ensures that he always outruns both and smacks them hard with the correct move. While Tauros still takes a hefty chunk from CC, Sawk won't be in much better shape as he has left himself vulnerable.

200Atk Tauros (+Atk) Zen Headbutt vs 4HP/0Def Sawk (Neutral): 66% - 78% (194 - 230 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.
200Atk Tauros (+Atk) Zen Headbutt vs 4HP/0Def -1 Sawk (Neutral): 100% - 117% (292 - 344 HP). Guaranteed OHKO.
200Atk +1 Tauros (+Atk) Zen Headbutt vs 4HP/0Def Sawk (Neutral): 100% - 117% (292 - 344 HP). Guaranteed OHKO.
200Atk Tauros (+Atk) Rock Slide vs 0HP/4Def Drifblim (Neutral): 61% - 72% (272 - 320 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.
200Atk Tauros (+Atk) Wild Charge vs 0HP/4Def Drifblim (Neutral): 73% - 86% (324 - 382 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.
200Atk +1 Tauros (+Atk) Rock Slide vs 0HP/4Def Drifblim (Neutral): 92% - 108% (406 - 478 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO. 51% chance to OHKO.
200Atk +1 Tauros (+Atk) Wild Charge vs 0HP/4Def Drifblim (Neutral): 110% - 129% (486 - 572 HP). Guaranteed OHKO.
If Sawk went for CC, he gets OHKOed by Zen Headbutt; if he didn't, he's not doing much to Tauros, thus proving who is the better man (male-only) of the two. Drifblim isn't much better off, its STAB is neutered (which also shuts down Unburden), it's suffering 2HKOes from Tauros's coverage move and gets cleanly OHKOed by +1 Wild Charge. Not to mention both Rock Slide and Zen Headbutt can flinch the target, meaning Tauros can potentially preserve his health.

The EV spread ensures Tauros outpaces Jolly Sawk, hits the minimum amount needed to OHKO -1 Sawk (or at +1 Attack), and the rest dumped into HP to increase overall bulk. Zen Headbutt is the move of choice against Sawk, and prevents Drifblim from getting in scotfree. Either Rock Slide or Wild Charge can be used for Drifblim for the reasons aforementioned, but Wild Charge's recoil against Drifblim's HP can really take a toll on Tauros, which will prove problematic if Tauros gets critted while setting up. I've noticed that Sawk can come out on top if he is not Intimidated and CCs after Tauros's attack (provided he does not get flinched). Substitute allows Tauros to soak up Sawk's CC while dropping the latter's defenses to be OHKOed by Zen Headbutt next turn. However, Substitute should best be used at good health (>60%), otherwise if Sawk goes for Earthquake instead your efforts would be wasted. Substitute also greatly discourages switching, not that either of them are willing to come in on Tauros.

Once again, the weaker link in the core shows up again, this time in the form of Drifblim. Drifblim's Thunderbolts merely glance off Tauros's thick hide, while Tauros gets that one Work Up to sweep the core easily, alleviating that whole "un-Intimidated Sawk survives and retaliates" issue. With all that said though, Substitute really isn't all that needed: Tauros only needs 3 moves to threaten the core. If Zen Headbutt's accuracy is an issue, Return can be used. However, note that even Return from +1 Tauros or against -1 Sawk may fail to OHKO, and that's with 252 Attack EVs, which isn't usually worth the huge compromise in bulk.

Yes, I'm aware that Tauros's main attacks have a tendency to miss, but considering their flinch rates are higher in comparison, I'd like to say the odds are still in my favor. Thoughts on this Sweet Jesus? I'd really like to know your 1-pokemon stand by the end of this round.

252 SpA Drifblim Thunderbolt vs. 148 HP / 0 SpD Tauros: 108-128 (32.92 - 39.02%) -- 99.93% chance to 3HKO

-1 252 Atk Choice Band Sawk Close Combat vs. 148 HP / 0 Def Chople Berry Tauros: 199-235 (60.67 - 71.64%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

200+ Atk Tauros Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Drifblim: 272-322 (61.67 - 73.01%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

assuming you switch directly into sawk's close combat, the opponent can simply sacrifice sawk and ko you with drifblim next turn. you have to hope for two consecutive low rolls to win. alternatively, the opponent can simply switch out to drifblim as you zen headbutt sawk to force you into a 50/50 situation where you could possibly lose. according to sweetjesus a 50% (or even 55% chance) isn't good enough.

Thoughts on this Sweet Jesus? I'd really like to know your 1-pokemon stand by the end of this round.

Was a cool idea, many people tried tauros unfortunately I don't think he can pull it off.

I will tell my counter at the end of the round if no one finds it (which would be sad).

Shoot, thanks for the calcs, knew I messed up somewhere.

As for that scenario (at least the latter one), that could be where Substitute could shine, as I thought about what I would do if the opponent switched Drifblim into Zen Headbutt. Sub on the switch, Work Up, sweep.

The first scenario is much more tricky to overcome, although Rock Slide may still pull me through against Drifblim. As I thought, having one pokemon to deal with these two monsters is really tricky (you came close though, and with such little effort :( ).

Edit: I'll concede that switching directly into Close Combat can complicate things, but switching into Drifblim basically seals their fate.

EDITED ORIGINAL POST.

Miltank (F) @ Choice Band
Trait: Scrappy
EVs: 252 Atk / 16 SDef / 240 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Double-Edge
- Ice Punch
- Zen Headbutt
- Punishment

Misdreavus @ Salac Berry
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 30 HP / 252 SAtk / 222 Spd <-- speed outspeeds drifblimmm
Modest Nature
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Taunt
- Destiny Bond

if sawk is in, missy switches in and assuming stone edge doesn't crit (relying on hax is bad!!) then it survives and speed is boosted. it then uses destiny bond to get an extra kill because miltank can kill everything anyway so ya. anyway so if sawk attacks again it dies and if drifblim switches in it can't attack. if drifblim switches in then missy just uses psychic because drifblim die anyway and it can get extra damage on sawk. it'll damage sawk and drifblim. and then it can outspeed and get the extra kill.

252 Atk Choice Band Sawk Stone Edge vs. 160 HP / 0 Def Misdreavus: 240-283 (79.73 - 94.01%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

^

salac will activate!

and for that kill on sawk, which it now outspeeds and can 2hko.

252+ SpA Misdreavus Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Sawk: 204-242 (70.1 - 83.16%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
if drifblim switches back in as missy is using psychic, no problem!

252+ SpA Misdreavus Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Drifblim: 132-156 (29.93 - 35.37%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

252+ SpA Misdreavus Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Drifblim: 354-416 (80.27 - 94.33%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

add 80 to 29 and you get 109! so it'll definitely kill Drifblim because it outspeeds.

252+ Atk Choice Band Miltank Double-Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Sawk: 294-346 (101.03 - 118.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

miltank then outspeeds and kills sawk.

if sawk stays in after it sees salac has activated, that's okay too! it'll die and miltank comes in.

miltank can just ice punch the balloon and it can't sub and cm is no use.

252 SpA Drifblim Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 16 SpD Miltank: 106-125 (32.02 - 37.76%) -- 94.87% chance to 3HKO <-- doesn't kill and miltank can kill.

now if drifblim is in then it's different! miltank switches in and uses double edge. it takes a bit of damage in return, but it survives. as you saw above, it survives, and if drifblim subs on the first turn it can't do much back and ghost gem won't activate so it won't outspeed, and drifblim will then kill on next turn (even if it attacks twice, that's okay because miltank will just kill and if sawk switches in then thats really good because sawk will die and drifblim can just take damage - miltank will also survive with hp left after killing when defeating the switching in sawk if I worked that out correctly (at max, if it takes two tbolts)). it'll then die killing drifblim:

252+ Atk Choice Band Miltank Double-Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Drifblim: 439-517 (99.54 - 117.23%) -- 93.75% chance to OHKO

if not, missy can finish it off and outspeeds. if sawk doesn't switch in, miltank breaks sub continously and takes a little damage each time. won't fully kill if drifblim keeps subbing and it can just destroy drifblim if it attacks and just kill sawk without need for missy, and if it dies and fails at killing sawk which it probably won't (after drifblim dies) then missy is there to help.

i hope this made sense im tired and ihu sweetjesus :)

I'm terribly sorry, I failed. I thought swellow learnt flail and I even checked before posting the core, but I don't know how, I didn't check correctly and it doesn't :(. My counter was sash flail scrappy adamant swellow but yeah swellow doesn't get flail. I still have not lost hope that a one mon counter exists.

@CrashingBoomBang
: You may post your miltank counter even if it was reserved before just because round 3 was extremly difficult, you have no chance of winning this anyway and we all want to know it. If it really matters to you I'll give it 3 points if it works. (Just edit your last post and quote this comment in it)

is cow (Miltank) (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Scrappy
EVs: 84 HP / 228 Atk / 28 Def / 32 SDef / 136 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Return
- Reversal
- Endure
- Milk Drink

If Drifblim is out you basically win; it can't 2HKO you with an unboosted Thunderbolt while you outspeed both it and Sawk and 2HKO both of them with Return. If Drifblim dies you can use Endure to scout Sawks move. If it is Close Combat you can then proceed to OHKO Sawk with Reversal. If Sawk uses any other move you can then proceed to Milk Drink until you're out of 2HKO range and kill it with two Returns.

252SpAtk Flare Boost Drifblim (Neutral) Thunderbolt vs 84HP/32SpDef Sap Sipper Miltank (Neutral): 29% - 34% (104 - 123 HP). Guaranteed 4HKO.

228Atk Scrappy Miltank (Neutral) Return vs 4HP/0Def Drifblim (Neutral): 50% - 59% (223 - 264 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.

228Atk Scrappy Miltank (Neutral) Return vs 4HP/0Def Sturdy Sawk (Neutral): 51% - 60% (150 - 177 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.

228Atk Scrappy Miltank (Neutral) Reversal vs 4HP/0Def -1 Sawk (Neutral): 100% - 117% (292 - 344 HP). Guaranteed OHKO.

252Atk Choice Band Mold Breaker Sawk (Neutral) Earthquake vs 84HP/28Def Miltank (Neutral): 42% - 49% (148 - 175 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO.

If Sawk is in, Miltank will survive the hit using its Focus Sash. Sawk is then forced to switch out on the Reversal which still OHKOs, meaning Drifblim will take some damage on the switch-in. Miltank can then Milk Drink on the Thunderbolt or Calm Mind and once more on the next turn. Drifblims Thunderbolt has a miniscule chance to 2HKO Miltank at +2, so Miltank can just keep Milk Drinking until Drifblim rolls less than max damage and proceed to 2HKO it with Return. Afterwards, Sawk is back out and Miltank can proceed to Endure, Milk Drink back to full health and finish Sawk off with 2 Returns.

252SpAtk +1 Flare Boost Drifblim (Neutral) Thunderbolt vs 84HP/32SpDef Sap Sipper Miltank (Neutral): 44% - 51% (155 - 183 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO. 6% chance to 2HKO.

If Sawk thinks switching into Miltank's Milk Drink while Drifblim is out is a good idea, the same thing will happen to it as Miltank heals up and eventually 2HKOs it with Return.

This strategy can only fail if there is hax, meaning Sawk/+1 Drifblim getting many, many (like 8) max damage rolls in a row or an unfortunate critical hit/Thunderbolt paralysis while Miltank is healing up. I guess you could not count it because of that, but hey we're not getting any closer than this.

Well it is an apparent trend that single-pokemon counters rely on neutering Drifblim's Unburden while being faster than Sawk, even if they are brutalized by Close Combat without the aid of an item. Perhaps this is the closest we can get to a one mon counter...?

The fact that we're dealing with unresisted coverage with a +1 boost does us no favors either.

I'll see at the end of the round cbb, I might give you points just for the achievement because this one is so hard and you don't have any chance of winning this anyway.

However, I think I have found another one mon counter, it has a very small chance of not ko'ing one of the mons with a not too accurate move, but reliable enough for me to accpet it (then again, didn't take too much time to look at it cause I really have to go to sleep, I'll give more new tomorrow).
