Cyclohm is live on the Create-A-Pokemon battle server!

Cyberzero (our intrepid CAP 8 Topic Leader) and Tennisace (one of the most active contributors during Cyclohm's creation) fought the inaugural match. Cyberzero won the battle 3-0 riding a big endgame sweep by Cyclohm. I don't know how much we will see Cyclohm sweeping like that again in the future -- but it was fun to see our newest pokemon make a big impact on its first battle!

The regular CAP ladder will be set aside for the next two weeks, to allow us to test Cyclohm in isolation against regular OU pokemon. Ladder ratings have been reset accordingly. So, for any of you that just joined the CAP project, we all start out the playtesting period equally. If you know OU, and you are willing to experiment with Cyclohm -- then you should do just fine. Whoever is ranked #1 on the Playtest ladder at the end of two weeks -- will be named CAP Playtesting Champion and will get a special custom title to wear here on the forums until the next CAP project completes.

This thread will serve as home base for sharing playtesting information about Cyclohm. Post comments advice, movesets, strategies, etc. If you post long battle logs, please enclose them in CODE tags.

Have fun battling with our latest CAP creation!

Well done everyone, we made a kickass CAP. Time to get up to #1!

I'm currently using a Slack Off variant of Cyclohm.

252 HP / 252 Def / 6 SpA
Bold nature - Leftovers
Slack Off
Thunderbolt
Flamethrower
Dragon Pulse

It's an awesome physical tank.

I don't personally have the log of the battle, but I engineered my team to remove most Scizor and other steels, therefore removing the need of Flamethrower. I ran 252 HP/4 Def/252 Sp Atk with Leftovers.
Modest Nature
Substitute - I didn't want a sweep to end short because of a Scarfed EQ'er or something
Thunderbolt - STAB, good coverage
Dragon Pulse - STAB, good coverage
Slack Off - Who doesn't like an auto-recovery move?

I've decided to go with a Specs user. It gets walled to death by Blissey, but it's got fabulous type coverage.

Cyclohm @ Choice Specs
252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Shield Dust, Modest nature
Draco Meteor
Thunderbolt
Flamethrower
Surf

Specsmence+. Shame it doesn't have the Speed to sweep. I'm considering a Choice Scarf and Dragon Pulse to make a better sweeper. It plays similarly to Choice Heatran either way.

EDIT: Some people asked for the log, so here it is.

Scizor isn't going to be a problem, it's too much of a risk to run it when there are Cyclohm everywhere. Ditto for Jirachi leads, and Bronzong/Metagross.

However, the real star of this metagame is without a doubt: Mamoswine. Knock around slower Cyclohm with EQ, revenge weakened ones with Ice Shard, and if they get cute and switch in something like a Salamence or Zapdos, Stone Edge takes care of them. Superpower is quite convenient for Blissey and Snorlax to boot. Other cool Pokemon are Zapdos/Rotom. They're both immune to EQ, resist Thunderbolt, and can take a DM in a pinch if they're sufficiently bulky.

Oh and I'm running specs as a mid-late game cleaner (who didn't see that coming).

Cyclohm@Specs
88 HP/252 SpA/168 Spe
Modest
Shield Dust
-Thunderbolt
-Draco Meteor
-Flamethrower
-Hydropump

I think Latias and Mamoswine are really shinging in this environment. They both give Cyclohm a headaches and the presence of Cyclohm is scaring off the Scizors that would normall deter these guys.

I just felt it necessary to add that right when I opened this thread, it started thunderstorming immensely outside.

Coincidence? Yes.

I also decided that I'm going to use Cyclohm to help me get back into battling after almost a year away from the battling scene.

Can Cyclohm light that spark of competition in me?

cyclstall has been good to me.

252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpDef
Bold nature - Leftovers
Slack Off
Thunderbolt
Light Screen
Dragon Pulse

i have not use it however i battled against it several times now. In wha i have seen so far it has not been that great. I have yet to see a defense oriented one so I'll comment on the attacking ones. the damage done was really disappointing failling to ohko many common things such as machamp, The life orb version was sightly better because it had a variety of other moves it can use, this is good because evn with specs the damage i seen has not been all that great. I think things like latias really outperform our new cap in the use of specs and life orb. Hopefully the defensive sets are more chllenging

isnt latias destroyed by draco meteor ?

Thanks for the log, I needed to see that. Hm, interesting match. I really liked the outputs of the physical hits on Cyclohm. Now I'm not so skeptical about him that much anymore. Blissey still may be an annoyance though.

I've been laddering using this Cyclohm with much success. The thing with Cyclohm is that it can hit its switch ins bar Blissey quite hard, but the trick is to time switches correctly. Entry hazards and hard hitting moves quickly chip off Cyclohm's health faster than it can recover, so it is very important to time switches correctly with Cyclohm. However, it is a great offensive threat, and has been shining much more in the offensive area in the defensive, in my opinion. However, this is still quite early into playtesting.

Dugtrio usage has been common as well, and is another reason to keep Cyclohm usage to a limit until late game. Cyclohm in all is a great pokemon, but it's main downside for me is probably it's lack of ability to switch into some light hitting special threats, such as a Starmie. Special biased Water typed pokemon in particular can usually give Cyclohm a hard time switching in. Anyways, here's the set I am using.

Cyclohm @ Life Orb
Ability: Shield Dust
EVs: 212 HP/240 Spd/56 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Hydro Pump
- Draco Meteor
- Slack Off
---

The EVs here were used for various reasons. With 212 EVs in HP, I reach 410 HP, which is a perfect number for Life Orb. This gives Cyclohm formidable bulk in a tank as well as the ability to last 5 Seismic Tosses from Blissey, although that really isn't too relevant. I ran 240 Speed to reach 281 Speed, effectively outspeeding Adamant Lucario as well as everything trying to stay one point above it at 280. The concept here is to switch this thing in after a kill, or as a late game cleaner, similar to Tennis's set. The bulk of this has saved me from a lot of losses. For example, this Cyclohm took about 75% from a Max Attack Adamant Meta EQ with Life Orb. That is pretty damn bulky, so I am not really going for much defense here when I already have that much. Draco Meteor was too good to give up, and dents most switch ins hard.

As for things that Cyclohm has really fucked over, I'd say the number one victim is SubBounce gyara. Cyclohm literally screws this thing over, due to Shield Dust negating Bounce paralysis, and resisting both STABs with insane defense. Prior to this CaP, Sub Bounce Gyara took on a lot of threats in the metagame, and even non Bulk Up Arghonaut. I expect to see a decline in Arghonaut usage due to this, as well as Sub Bounce Gyara. Mamoswine as mentioned earlier is also quite threatening to Cyclohm, although even they have to watch out for Dragon Pulses and whatnot.

For Shield Dust vs. Static, it's pretty much a decision between to not get haxed, or to hax back. I chose Shield Dust for a more reliable switch to most Jirachi, as well as something that can withstand a Machamp DynamicPunch without risking confusion. Bounce, and other luck related moves are dead with Shield Dust, so I chose the safe route.

I've been using the same set as Plus, with different EVs. This thing is insane. Between Life Orb Draco Meteor coming off of 112 SpA, STAB Thunderbolt to back it up and a powerful Ground-hitting move in Hydro Pump, I really can't come up with anything that can safely switch into Cyclohm barring Blissey and, to an extent, specially defensive Tyranitar (who still takes a beating from LO Hydro Pump). Combined with Hippowdon defenses, I think that this CAP may be just a bit too much. Though I guess it's best to wait and see what unfolds.

I'm not fond of the Choice Specs set. The fact that it's weak to every form of passive damage imaginable means I'm going to start using Slack Off on every set.

Well, I'm running a sort of attack varient of Cyclohm, running the following:

Cyclohm @ Leftovers
Sheild Dust
Timid
EVs: 176 HP (401 HP, 5 Tosses), 252 Speed, 82 sp.attack
Discharge
Flamethrower
Dragon Pulse
Slack Off

Basically, this Cyclohm can take hits, especially physical ones. Meanwhile, while shrugging off addittional effects, Discharge has a 30% chance of paralysing, very good for Cyclohm's less-than-ideal speed. 284 speed is enough to outrun up to base 110's that have no speed investment, or a very small one. (281 speed with a Positive Nature, 256 with a neutral) Everything is outrun after Paralysis, which also aids with tanking. Sp.Attack EV's help deal damage, making Cyclohm hit 280 sp.attack.

I considered Thunderbolt, but, I'm more than willing to trade 10 base power for 20% extra para chance, especially with Cyclohm's defensive stats.

However, I am having problems with Cyclohm. On the ladder right now, Mamoswines are running amock, and a Life Orb Earthquake or Ice Shard hurts. Flygons are also around, EQ'ing and Outraging Cyclohm's. Both resist Discharge/T-Wave. Swampert laughs at Cyclohm, walling it bar Dragon Pulse, and Ice Beaming/EQ'ing it back.

Getting Cyclohm in is also an issue. My set focuses on opening the way for pokemon such as Lucario (Who comes in on a Dragon Attack), and Garados (EQ absorber) to come in, set up, and sweep. Between the myriad of counters, getting Cyclohm in is hard enough, let alone doing any damage.

Cyclohm will be far better once the other CAP's come back, and teams have to deal with them as well as Cyclohm.

Common Cyclohm teammates seem to be including Scarf Flygon, who can counter both Ground and Dragon types, and outspeeds most ice types, and steel types like Bronzong and Skarmory, who both are immune to Ground, and laugh at Ice moves. (Skarmory less so, but Mamoswine can't outdamage roost)

Currently using Cyclohm in a hail team.

Cyclohm @ Leftovers
Sheild Dust
Timid
EVs: 176 HP (401 HP, 5 Tosses), 252 Speed, 82 sp.attack
Discharge
Flamethrower
Weather Ball
Slack Off

Same as the previous Cyclohm, but, an improved 'Boltbeamer'. 100 BP Weather Ball burts, especially with hail. Flamethrower kills ice types who like the hail, especially with Cyclohm's good speed on this set. Discharge cripples sweepers and bulky waters. (30% paralysis works nicly with the rest of the team's Blizzard Abuse)

Well, a good revenge killer for Cyclohm would have to be Dugtrio:
Switch in on an electric attack (or after a KO) and slam it with CB Earthquake. Obviously the best Cyclohm killer, with it being trapped. I think this will inspire some trainers to start using the digging monster.

Here's a novelty Dragon Dance set. Haven't tried it yet, but will soon.

Cyclohm with Life Orb
~Dragon Dance
~Volt Tackle
~Dragon Claw/Outrage
~Overheat/Slack Off/Aqua Tail
Naughty(If Overheat)/Adamant nature
252 Atk 252 Spd 6 HP

Edit: Used it a couple times and well... it is novelty

Like most people here, I've found that Mamoswine is one of the biggest threats to Cyclohm and the rest of the common Pokemon being used.

With a bit of speed he outspeeds most Cyclohm variants for the easy ko with a strong earthquake. He gets Superpower for Blissey, and can Ice Shard any dragon stuck on Outrage.

This is a variation on the offensive sets that works well on its own but really shines on Rain Dance or mini-RD teams.

Cyclohm @ Leftovers/Life Orb
Ability: Shield Dust
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 HP/252 SpA/ 252 Spe

Rain Dance
Thunder
Hydro Pump
Draco Meteor

This set sports two 180 BP moves, Thunder and Hydro Pump, with Thunder being 100% accurate in rain, which is nice. It also has the ever-mighty Draco Meteor to finish things off when you need the increased power.

I'm currently using it alongside DD/RD/Waterfall/Outrage Kingdra, who, despite their shared Dragon weakness, really work well together under rain (Cyclohm opens up a lot of holes for Kingdra to come in and set up). I'm also giving it screen support via Bronzong to let it set up RD and survive Mamo switch-ins and OHKO with Hydro Pump. I'm sure it would be great on a dedicated Rain Dance team, though.

This combo really tore me apart in a ladder match. I really didn't expect rain to be set up on me with Cyclohm and Kingdra then came in and easily set up on me, taking a lot of my team down.

More playtesting, and here are some results on my Ice WB set, and Cyclohm in general:

General Cyclohm things:
Dugtrio can switch-in and kill Cyclohm with no problems. Be weary if you use Thunderbolt on a Garados with Cyclohm, it may be the last thing you do with it.
Mamoswine, and Flygon are pains, as I covered before. Prediction can beat these, however (Predict a Mono switch-in, and you can Flamethrower it, and Dragon Pulse Flygons)
Choice Cyclohm seem to be very vunerable to being countered, as each of it's moves are resisted outright by very common pokemon, that not only can come in, but can O/2HKO it. (Metagross on Dragon Pulses, Flygon/Mamo/Dug on T-Bolts, and EarthPower Heatran/Kingdra/Salamance on Flamethrowers)
Bulkier Cyclohm seem to be faring slightly better, especially against the likes of other Dragon-types. Flygon is unable to OHKO a bulky Cyclohm with Outrage without a Life Orb or Band. (And those that majorly threaten Cyclohm are Scarfed, as Cyclohm can outspeed Flygons, dependant on Speed EV's)

My Hail Cyclohm in particular:
The puesado bolt-beam is working wonders. Base 100 Ice Weather Ball KO's Dugtrio Switch-ins, Salamances, Flygons, and other pokemon that give Thunderbolt trouble, that come in and cause Cyclohm trouble. Hailohm's high speed EV's make it outrun all standard Cyclohm I have faced, and, deal varing damage with Weather Ball, a 2HKO at minimun. Hail works well with Cyclohm's bulkyness and recovery moves, while chipping away at the foe for Cyclohm's attacks to deal a little more damage.

Outspeeding slower Salamances is useful, for the OHKO, and so is being able to take dragon attacks up to a LO Outrage. Garados is in the same boat. Mamoswine threatens Ice Shard, but they can at best speed tie it, and Flamethrower threatens a OHKO on Mamo's poor sp.def.

Still going with Discharge over Thunderbolt. If something fast switches in, they risk Paralysation, and heavy damage, before being attacked again (Hailohm outspeeds all pokemon once they are Paralysed). I might try T-Bolt for the sheer power, and a more complete BoltBeam, but my Rotom carries T-Bolt anyway. (That said, I run Toxic Spikes on my Hailohm team too, but Discharge can paralyse those immune to it)

even if it can revenge kill cyclohm it does not mean is any more useful to the metagame. I seen dugtrio being used more when it really it does pittyful damage to most things slower than it and adamant dugtrio is pretty much slower than things it likes to trap like infernape.
