My thoughts before the battle:

From team preview, I saw that I would be going up against a stall team. This would be fun; more stuff for Sableye to Taunt and more items for it to knock off! Sweeping heaven for Zoroark and Salamence as well. Now, the first thing I want to do to severely cripple this guy's team is knock off that Chansey's Eviolite...

Now let's get to the battle!

Battle between [Test] LucaroarkZ and Dragone started!

Your team: Deoxys-S / Salamence / Zoroark / Sableye / Rotom-W / Scizor

Deoxys-S is buffeted by the sandstorm!

The first thing I wanted to do here was taunt. I wanted to delay the inevitable rocks so I can switch out with more freedom, which is especially important for Salamence, who is weak to SR. So he does in fact go for the Stealth Rock, which is good for me. Sandstorm damage breaks my sash, but I have far more important things to worry about.

So I go for the Taunt, expecting him to try to go for some Spikes. He predicts my Taunt and goes for the Power Whip, so that's a good play on his part. Luckily the Power Whip doesn't OHKO so I can get up a layer of Spikes.

I don't want Zoroark and Scizor taking too much Spikes damage though. That's bad. I go for the Taunt so he can't get up any more Spikes. I thought that even though he's already succeeded in getting up one layer of Spikes, that if I can Taunt him, it'll work out in the long run so Zoroark and Scizor will be able to come in a little more.

I taunt his Gastrodon, hoping to prevent him from going for something. This works out really well as I prevent him from going for the Recover. In the long run, this will be very bad for his Gastrodon as it will have to either wait to be able to recover or switch out and take SR/Spikes damage the next time it comes in and be at very low health and easily die to something.

Start of turn 31
Dragone called Gliscor back!
Dragone sent out Ferrothorn!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Ferrothorn!
The foe's Ferrothorn is hurt by spikes!

Rotom-W used Hydro Pump!
It's not very effective...
A critical hit!
The foe's Ferrothorn lost 43% of its health!

The sandstorm rages!
Rotom-W is buffeted by the sandstorm!
Rotom-W restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

He switches out to Ferrothorn, predicting my Hydro Pump. I get a crit with the Hydro Pump, but I don't think it mattered too much, as there's one move I haven't shown him yet. I have Hidden Power Fire on this Rotom-W, meaning his Ferrothorn would have probably died the next turn anyway.

Rotom-W restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Dragone sent out Gliscor!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Gliscor!

The surprise HP Fire KOs Ferrothorn, as expected. He brings in his Gliscor, so now it's time to go into rage-mode.

Dragone sent out Skarmory!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Skarmory!

So now Gliscor dies to a Hydro Pump, which is what always happens. Now he death fodders his Chansey, and brings out Skarmory. It's a physical wall, I'm a special attacker, and I have two moves super effective against it. I stand a flying chance now.

Dragone: Good Game

So then I end up KOing his Skarmory with HP Fire. So I managed to go from a point where I was about to lose, and managed to pull through and win. Thanks for being so epic, Rotom-W!

Props

  • Rotom-W's sweep at the end
  • My opponent's predictions
  • Zoroark did MASSIVE damage to that Chansey!
  • Sableye burning stuff and knocking items off of things
  • My opponent used Hippowdon :)
  • My opponent tried hard to make sure I didn't knock off his Chansey's Eviolite
Slops

  • Chansey on a team with Hippowdon?
  • Salamence didn't do much
  • That GOD DAMN BURN WITH SCALD!!!
  • Sableye's first Will-O-Wisp missing
Well, hope you enjoyed this warstory! Rate, hate, whatever floats your boat.

Also, sorry for some of the images being removed; I had to remove some images because my post exceeded the image limit.

I approve of dat comeback. The format was a little odd to say the least (namely the sprites going from the middle outward instead of left to right), but I enjoyed the battle. I liked the Pursuit with Scizor even though it didn't matter—Chansey would have died from entry hazards coming in. Props to you for dismantling a stall team with Sableye. While I will refrain from giving it a rating out of 10, I do think it's important to start this thread off on a good note (although what it will turn into is anyone's guess), so I give this Warstory my and Cacturne's approval. Dat comeback too good.

the funny thing is that (assuming I calculated correctly) had you not critted Ferrothorn can survive a hidden Power Fire and would have (in all likelihood) just OHKOed with Power Whip. Granted, thats not your fault, but its still annoying when someone wins with a last gasp crit. Still, thats the game I guess

I just ran a calc with the standard Ferrothorn in the analysis (252HP/208SpDef EVs, Relaxed nature) and I got this for HP Fire (my Rotom-W is Modest):

252 SpAtk Rotom-W Hidden Power Fire vs 252 HP/208 SpDef Ferrothorn: 61.36% - 72.73%
Entry hazards damage: 66
After entry hazards: 282 - 322 (80.11% - 91.48%)
2 hits to KO (with Leftovers)

Hydro Pump damage calcs:
252 SpAtk Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs 252 HP/208 SpDef Ferrothorn: 19.32% - 23.01%

So if I somehow managed to get minimum damage rolls on both (very unlikely), then it probably wouldn't have KOed. Of course, maximum damage rolls on both isn't very likely either.

Yeah that's what I can't figure out, as Blissey would have been a better choice due to having that Leftovers recovery. Maybe he wanted to avoid using Skarmbliss? I dunno.
There's no difference between Skarmbliss and Skarmchan, both are essentially the same ._.

Anyway decent warstory 7/10, keep it up!

Alright, nice warstory, decent battle, epic comeback by Rotom-W.

But, you shouldn't recap what happened last turn in every comment. The time to explain your move is before you make it, so we can understand why you make each move, and what you're planning earlier.

I fell asleep during this. The comments need to come before the turn, so that I get an idea of what one is thinking before moving. Now I just feel like the comments are recapping the turn.

Also, format is kinda weird with the sprites going from Center out. It took me half a battle to figure out where sprites were going.

Overall, 5/10, because of the effort put in.

I felt that the warstory was very well done. For future improvement, consider the following portion of your warstory.

(87%->18%) vs. (100%)
Start of turn 3
Deoxys-S used Taunt!
The foe's Ferrothorn fell for the taunt!

The foe's Ferrothorn used Power Whip!
Deoxys-S lost 154 HP! (63% of its health)

The sandstorm rages!
Deoxys-S is buffeted by the sandstorm!

So I go for the Taunt, expecting him to try to go for some Spikes. He predicts my Taunt and goes for the Power Whip, so that's a good play on his part. Luckily the Power Whip doesn't OHKO so I can get up a layer of Spikes.

Generally when you write a warstory, you should NOT tell the reader what you just did. We just read it, we don't need to hear it again. Secondly, you should expand more on why you did what you did, had I been in this scenario, I'd have written something like this (though it is probably completely different from your mental processes).

After turn two
Now here is an interesting situation. I have taunt and I know he has hazard inducing moves. He has hazard inducing moves and knows I have taunt. He also probably has a method of attacking, which would allow him to destroy Deoxys-S if I taunt. If he is going to kill me, the best course of action is to put down my hazards before he kills me. There are four sensical possible results, (excluding switches)
1: I taunt as he goes for hazards (edge: me)

2: I taunt and he kills me (I was as surprised as you that Deo-S lived an attack, edge: him/her)

3: I lay down spikes as he kills me (I lose Deoxys-S, but if he attacks, this is the most preferable option for me, edge: me)

4: We both put down hazards, this restarts the entire equation all over again, and without a spinner hazards are not a welcome addition to my side of the field (edge: tie).

From here I need to prioritize what is most important to me. Ultimately I believe that the loss of Deoxys-S does less harm to me in the long run than letting him get free, unremovable hazards on my side of the field, and therefore I taunt.

(I was as surprised as you that Deo-S lived an attack)

Far too many people I've read say something along these lines. Deoxys-S has defense almost identical to that of Hitmontop, and Ferrothorn only has offenses comparable to those of Forretress. It shouldn't be hard to guess that Deoxys would survive an uninvested attack.

which brings me to my point: why sash? Deoxys is best off running another item, as Psycho Boost will KO almost any Pokemon that could return the favor (assuming you're not doing something stupid like running max Spe post-excadrill)

Hey thanks for the comments everyone!

I notice that a lot of people said the format was strange. Now that I look at it, I could definitely change that in future warstories with a more straightforward layout for the sprites and making comments before turns.

Turn 9, why didn't you taunt Gastrodon?

I predicted him to go for an attacking move like Scald predicting me to go for Taunt.

I'm using a lead Deoxys-S. Focus Sash is the best item to use on lead Deo-S, since just about any powerful unresisted or super effective attack coming from a Pokemon with respectable Attack/Special Attack will KO. Sash helps me get up more hazards. The only thing I've found to be really problematic for Deoxys-S is Tyranitar, so I invested in Attack so that I can KO most Tyranitar with Superpower.

Turn 9, why didn't you taunt Gastrodon?

not to be rude but you had the same opportunity on turn 6 against a stall team I feel like you should be a little(lot) more generous with the taunt giving. It would also be nice to hear your actual thought process rather than what you did. Good job and good luck with your further endeavors into warstories 6/10

There should really be more insight on what you were thinking BEFORE the turn, and not what happened that turn.

It brings more depth to the warstory.

although the format is incredible, the commentary is not that good

it's supposed to describe how you think what you gonna do or plan to play against the other player

also I prefer if the log and the comment should have been in the left, not in the middle

You did a good job on the format, but you should try to say what you will do, don't just tell us what you did.

Anyways, good warstory, I expect more from you!
