Dinosaurs.

HEY EVAN IT HAS BEEN TWO YEARS AND ARMADILLO DINOSAURS CAN STILL EAT SHIT

Ok, I just wanna chime in here, and say the a pack of
velociraptor.jpg
babies could massacre either the Triceratops or T-Rex, probably both at the same time, despite them being so small. (Admittedly, there would have to be a pack of them to do it, but they would certainly beat either of those in a fight.

The cool thing is, they probably did fight, since all three species are from the same era, the late cretaceous.

The Velociraptor is also my favourite species of dinosaur; I used to love dinosaurs as a kid (it even contributes to my username on Smogon). Velociraptor is my personal favourite, as it's just so vicious, and they work well together in teams. I also love that upright third claw they all have -- it's a pretty cool weapon. I actually used to imitate having one when I was really little! Those were the days ;)

Thanks for posting this thread. It really brought back some childhood memories, lol. Dinosaurs ftw :D

@elDino:
Velociraptors also don't look like that. They have feathers. And they're like knee height...
True in packs they could be deadly, but they're not even sure if it was a pack hunter at all. From wikipedia:
"Remains of Deinonychus, a closely related dromaeosaurid, have commonly been found in aggregations of several individuals. Deinonychus has also been found in association with a large herbivore, Tenontosaurus, which has been seen as evidence of cooperative hunting.[27][28] The only solid evidence for social behavior among dromaeosaurids comes from a Chinese trackway of fossil footprints, which shows six individuals of a large species moving as a group, though no evidence of cooperative hunting was found.[29] Although many isolated fossils of Velociraptor have been found in Mongolia, none were closely associated with any other individuals.[23] Therefore, while Velociraptor is commonly depicted as a pack hunter, as in Jurassic Park, there is only limited fossil evidence to support this theory for dromaeosaurids in general, and none specific to Velociraptor itself."

The 2m super intellegent co-operating Jurassic Park Raptors are uber cool. Sadly reality can be disappointing...

Also they were all in the later cretaceus period, but T Rex and the veolociraptors are still separated by 3 or 4 million years.

lol, from what I read in books when I was a kid, Velociraptors were always known to hunt in packs, and I never knew they had feathers -- perhaps this hadn't been known when these books had been published? Seems the only logical explanation for me. Also, why would they have made the velocirpators in Jurassic Park look like so, if they knew they had feathers? It must have surely been a recent discovery.

Anyway... thanks for completely crushing the awesome image that I've had of Velociraptors in my head since childhood. Much appreciated :'(

I am so happy this thread is a thing. As for the T-rex thing:

I am lead to believe that the young, fast ones did the hunting for the group, while the giant, heavy-set ones fought to protect the rest of the pack, like lions do.

Look at that body! Scavenger, maybe, but with that bulldog head and bulky bones, it looks like it would be a fighter, really.

It sure is fun to believe that Velociraptors were smarter than dolphins, whales, and primates (as "Jurassic Park III" put it), but, as with most of the Jurassic Park series, this is not much more than entertaining speculation/bullshit designed to suit the movie. I've read that they were an intelligent genus relative to other dinosaurs...but that's not much by mammalian standards.

It's pretty amazing how Vader summed up my thoughts exactly in his two posts

But if we can keep this thread relatively alive for a few months, (I'd guess,) Morm will have lots of thing to say about dinosaurs or about how stupid everyone else in the thread is when it comes to dinosaurs

yeah p much

also just to join the bandwagon

Yeah buddy

though in all honesty ive been a fan of all dinosaurs for some time, and if i could pursue a career in paleontology that would absolutely fantastic

also has anyone seen that old BBC program Walking With Dinosaurs? I watched it when i was 3 and that's where it all started lol

I saw "Walking with Dinosaurs" a long time ago and I have forgotten more or less everything about it.

On another note, I'm happy to see this thread stirring up so much serious discussion.

Walking with Dinosaurs got a fair bit wrong, like portraying a lioplurodon as being over 100' long. They were really about 30' long. At least they didn't confuse the Utahraptors for Veloceraptors... though the raptors were portrayed naked...

Even so, it was a pretty good series, all things considered.

Well, when I was little, there was this game called 3D Dinosaur Adventure, arguably one of the best computer games I ever played growing up; It was educational and very entertaining, and sparked my interest in dinosaurs. Anyways, one of my favorite dinosaurs is the baryonyx. It was 20 feet long, had giant, curved claws, and caught fish.
