Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
This one grew a lot on me over time, and gained more points from where I originally put it than any other song. I'm kind of surprised that I don't know a lot of Iron Maiden. This is a somewhat basic song, but it's definitely fun.
If I kept saying "there's better from this artist", then what would be the point of this category? It's just that, this song is nice and all. You can feel those late 70s roots for new wave. But it doesn't hit all that hard.
This seems like a pretty average modern song at first, but the driving piano builds up to actually a pretty good chorus. I don't usually like this kind of singing, but it works here.
Shubaka seemed pretty intent on golfing. And I'm not sure that he didn't try. Oops! Then again, this is pretty fucking gay, so it might be a serious sub. Good job!
"I will submit rap until I podium". This not good enough? This song is immedialely awesome. Love this weird shit. The production is awesome and there are parts of the song that get really trippy in good ways. Is this lyrically very good? Does it want to be? Who cares. Cool sub.
Of course Walrein submitted Rush. In general, I think they're a very samey sounding band. Walrein was wise to pay attention when I said that 80s rush is better than 70s, as 70s is what he usually submits. A little synth was just the boost Rush needed to make their songs stand out a bit more. Is this song better than their other 80s hits? Hell if I know. In a vacuum, it's pretty cool. Great lyrics here.
Kim Wilde is possibly the most underrated artists of the 80s. She has a ton of great songs and usually all you hear is the okay Kids in America. I almost submitted this to Yeti's walrus, so obviously it was a fortunate sub.
And then some asshole finds a song that really shouldn't be uncharted at all. How did the Talking Heads best song only manage to hit 103 on the charts? The secret is that a lot of the most popular music at the time was actually really shitty. What we hear on the radio, in stores, and in movies isn't really reflective of the charts back then.
This has some nice backing, but it's really soft and made to be driven by the vocals, which sadly really don't sound good. They're especially tin sounding when he sings his hardest.
This guy was in a band apparently. I have nothing against Smooth McGroove, although it's the kind of acts whose gimmick wears off over time. He's also going to be as good as whatever he covers, and this is fine but forgettable. Sadly, he's never covered the Molgera music.
Is that opening from Lone Wolf and Cub? It's neat. The follow up rap is fine but not remotely remarkable. A good submit for your theme, but I can't give it more points than this.
An interesting submission in terms of music history, but not much more than background music. I don't think I'll get a lot of jeers from the smogon crowd for scoring this song low.
For a guy who doesn't know much about music, a solo act stemming from Bad Company is an interesting choice. But he's right that this song is only okay. It's a bit of jam, but is forgotten as soon as it's over.
