DP Jynx

No singular Life Orb Calm Mind set sucks, especially when it's pretty damn useful. Makes it easier to beat many of Jynx's "counters" too, like Clefable, Lanturn, and so on.

[SET]
name: Offensive Calm Mind
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Psychic
move 3: Focus Blast
move 4: Shadow Ball
item: Life Orb
ability: Forewarn
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Jynx's straight-out offensive options are often forgotten in spite of a safer set using Lovely Kiss. However, this set possesses both raw power and coverage. Calm Mind is often easy for Jynx to set up, as many Pokémon fear her Lovely Kiss.

After a sole Calm Mind, Jynx will have a Special Attack stat of 493, which is further boosted by Life Orb. Psychic is a typical STAB move that allows for an easy OHKO on 252 HP / 0 SpD Hitmontop, and nabs an OHKO on Muk after a Calm Mind with Stealth Rock. After one Calm Mind, Jynx will also OHKO 252 HP / 0 SpD Clefable with Focus Blast (provided it doesn't miss), who may want to switch in to other Jynx sets whilst holding a Toxic Orb, thus rendering it safe from Lovely Kiss. Shadow Ball allows Jynx to 2HKO Hypno after a boost, as well as doing a sizeable chunk of damage to Claydol.

Jynx will also beat many of the common special walls with this set. Standard Mantine can only manage a substandard amount of damage to Jynx once it has a Calm Mind under its belt, maxing at 26% with Surf. If Jynx manages to get a Calm Mind on the switch, it can Calm Mind again before Mantine Surfs, and thus take only 19% max. Once Jynx has two Calm Minds, it can deal 59% to Mantine, a definite 2HKO. If played correctly, Jynx ends up with at least 42% of its health under these circumstances, whilst Mantine will end up fainted. With the opponent's special wall down, Jynx can then attempt a sweep for the next five turns, with the opponent having no more than five Pokémon. Lanturn too is faced with similar dilemmas, presuming it switches into Jynx upon a Calm Mind. Jynx gets another, and then takes a maximum of 22% from Surf, allowing Jynx to get one more Calm Mind, in which Jynx takes up to 18%. At this point Jynx still has 60% health, and possesses +3 Special Attack, +3 Special Defense, with Life Orb and three moves at its disposal. Psychic then has a 58% chance to OHKO Lanturn. It should be noted that most Lanturn will carry Thunder Wave though, or possibly Toxic.

Ice Beam however, may be used for Claydol, Altaria, and Grass-types, if they really threaten your team in particular. Ice Beam also provides a slightly stronger STAB attack over Psychic.

Doesn't a Hitmontop's Technician Bullet Punch, and Technician Mach Punch 1hko Jynx?

I'm not even sure it needs a Life Orb for Bullet Punch (doing 120 Base Damage).

So it only can kill a Hitmontop on the switch in, and Hitmontop won't likely be switching into Jynx fearing a Lovely Kiss, or a Psychic, unless it is used to revenge-kill Jynx in which case it can also pack Pursuit if Jynx tries to switch...

Perhaps list Focus Sash as an option next to Life Orb.

After a sole Calm Mind, Jynx will have a Special Attack stat of 493, which furthermore(this is awkward, maybe "which is further boosted by life orb") gains extra power when boosted by Life Orb.
Jynx will also beat many of the common special walls with this set. Standard Mantine can only manage a substandard amount of damage to Jynx once it has a Calm Mind under its belt, maxing at 26% to be precise you should specify an attack here instead of in the next sentence. If Jynx manages to get a Calm Mind on the switch, it can Calm Mind again before Mantine Surfs, thus taking only 19% tops. Once Jynx has two Calm Minds, it can deal 59% to Mantine, a definite 2HKO. If played correctly, Jynx ends up with at least 42% of its health under these circumstances, whilst Mantine will end up fainted.
Shadow Ball is normally superior over Ice Beam to hit Ghost-types harder, as well as hitting Hypno, and especially Grumpig harder. Ice Beam however, may be used for Claydol and Grass-types, if they really threaten your team in particular. Ice Beam also provides a slightly stronger stab attack over Psychic.

you should also mention ice beams usefulness for alteria who could flamethrower/fire blast you

+1 LO Psychic vs 252 HP/0 SpDef Altaria: 71.19% - 83.90%

That's a OHKO 66% of the time with SR up. I don't feel hitting Altaria for SE damage (when Psychic will OHKO anyway) is worth giving up type coverage that Shadow Ball/FB offers.

that's with stealth rock, i think it's probably worth it to just mention it in the part about the usefulness of ice beam

It's been mentioned.

hhjj, Life Orb is just too vital to this set, it gets many extra KOes and gives Jynx the raw power she needs.

Shadow Ball is normally superior over Ice Beam to hit Ghost-types harder, as well as hitting Grumpig especially, and Hypno harder.
That's a wee bit awkward IMO.

"Shadow Ball is generally superior to (Not superior over AFAIK) Ice Beam because it hits ghost and Psychic-types harder, espeically Hypno and Grumpig."

(:

Lanturn can Thunder Wave/Toxic Jynx though, and Mantine usually carries Haze or Toxic from what I know too. I don't think they'd sit there and try to Surf Jynx or something (Lanturn should at least Thunderbolt to try for the 10% paralysis).

Could Expert Belt possibly work? Psychic / Dark / Fighting gets pretty good coverage (both neutral and super-effective). I'm just wondering since Jynx is weak to Stealth Rock.
