DP Research Thread #4 ("Newer still")

Actually yeah I realise that I made a mistake. I agree that Protect seems to be 100% accurate if it wasn't used in the previous turn and 50% accurate if it was.

About Sky Attack, I've read what you said just now. Your results suggest that Sky Attack has a high-CH ratio as well as a flinching chance. To be even more sure of the result, I'd suggest someone testing Sky Attack with an unboosted critical hit (i.e. no Razor Claw, Scope Lens or Focus Energy), and check whether it hits around 12.5% of the time for a CH.

the best and most accurate way to test these things is a linked battle, which is unfortunately impossible for me to do

one person takes 6 noctowls with 8 sky attacks each, attach scope lens
second one take I don´t know leftovers skarmory and rest/roost

after you PP waste sky attacks, flee from battle (I don´t know how this works, no wi-fi :/ )

repeat the process at least twice

I´ve just started to test this again in an ingame double battle, but there are still some oponent hits which make the results a bit less accurate and they won´t sleep forever

for example I have a sky attacking scope lens moltres (damn forgot PP MAX) and a hypnosis milotic out, oponent has a foresight-seismic toss-focus energy-karate chop machop, the test will be accurate unless machop starts karate chopping...looking at my DP sky attack test this could be a reason for an inaccurate test (one pachirisu was attacking till it PP wasted itself, so it triggered the CH RNG as well)

anyway, IIRC the CH ratio research was never completed, we assume it is 1/16-1/8-1/4-1/3-1/2

random note: the PP of sky attack is used up on turn 1 (became cloaked in a harsh light)

EDIT:
34/35 sky attacks hit
6 CHs (scope lens attached)
foe hit 11 karate chops (focus energy), 5 CHs, seismic toss is irelevant (?)

sky attack #31 missed

...not in the mood for more, sorry

Wouldn't it be better to use Wide Lens Sky Attack? Then you don't have to worry about checking multiple CH stages (you're only dealing with Sky Attack), and Wide Lens will help fix the accuracy.

I would like to test some stuff for you guys but I just need to know what to test?

Check out the first page of this thread. Obi posted a ton of questions that still need answers. If you could work on some of those, it'd be a great help! You might want to check through the pages of this thread first, though, to make sure a question hasn't been answered before you test it.

Was there any research done on the evolutions of Wurmple? What determines which evolution occurs? And is it possible to soft-reset an egg and come up with the same evolution each time?

Wurmple's evolution is set the same time Nature/Gender/Ability are, iirc. So yes, it would be possible to SR for the same evolution each time.

From what I've looked up on the subject, it's the PID that determines Wurmple's evolution. If you divide the hex value of the last 32 bits of the PID by 10 and the remainder resulting from that is less than 5, Wurmple will evolve into Silcoon. (which, despite the evolution being portrayed as random, is actually slightly more likely)

At least that's how I understand it with my limited computer science knowledge. I remember reading about it on a Marriland forum post and this Bulbapedia entry.

Oh, and since it's the PID that decides the evolution, soft-resetting the egg won't change it, IIRC (and I probably don't).

I have finally found some time again to test things in the Diamond and Pearl games. This page of mine, below, shows a list of moves arranged by function code, and a list of abilities.

http://upokecenter.com/games/dp/guides/attacks.html
http://upokecenter.com/games/dp/guides/abilities.html

It is currently incomplete, since my goal is to provide concise wordings of each move's effect, as I have already done
for Pokemon Advance's attack list. In particular, I use some
terminology which may be helpful to others, such as distinguishing the terms "user", "opponent", "non-user", "opposing Pokemon", and
avoiding the unqualified and ambiguous word "damage". See my glossary for more information.

As an example, here is how I word the effect of Gravity:

Effect lasts for five rounds including the current round. When this attack is used, the effects of Fly, Bounce, and Magnet Rise end for all active Pokemon. During effect, Fly, Bounce, Magnet Rise, Hi Jump Kick, Splash, and Jump Kick are disabled for all active Pokemon. During effect, Ground-type moves are effective against each active Pokemon, and each active Pokemon can receive the effect of Spikes and Toxic Spikes, and each active Pokemon is prevented from switching and fleeing, as though it did not have Levitate and as though its current type did not include Flying. During effect, each active Pokemon's Evasion stat stage is decreased by 2.

Intimidating, yes, but accurate.

I thank you for your time.

Random-ass comment that may have been addressed: I used a Doom Desire Jirachi over and over again in PBR and I've never, ever, ever, ever, ever gotten a critical hit with it. It would make sense, you know, being end-of-turn type damage anyway. So there's something we all know possibly confirmed...

Does anybody know if it is possible to soft reset for a shiny pokemon egg on Pokemon Emerald and/or D/P?
Let's say I save right in front of the day care man, receive the egg, hatch it and it is born shiny, I know that if I SR the gender, nature and ability remains the same but does shininess too?

Since they are all determined by the same thing (PID), I'm inclined to say yes, but I can't be 100% certain.

Updated first posts and site, this is what I added to thread

Poison Heal: Does a poisoned Pokemon with Poison Heal still takes damage outside of battle? I've gotten conflicting info on this.

Shield Dust: Does Shield Dust block moves like Charge Beam from boosting when used by a Shield Dust Pokemon?

Foresight: Does Foresight ignore the evasion drop of Sweet Scent?

Odor Sleuth: Does Odor Sleuth ignore the evasion drop of Sweet Scent?

Order of Speed modifiers: It's currently unknown what the order for Speed modifiers is. These include: Speed ability modifiers (Chlorophyll, Slow Start, and the like, but not Speed Boost or Motor Drive), Unburden (activate Unburden, use Skill Swap to gain another Speed-modifying ability, if you're wondering why I put this as a separate modifier) Speed stages (The -6 through +6 stuff, including Speed Boost and Motor Drive), Tailwind, Speed item modifiers (Macho Brace, for example), and paralysis.

Transform: How does it interact with species-specific items (DeepSeaScale, DeepSeaTooth, Light Ball, Soul Dew, and Thick Club)?

I'm working on the wording for Mirror Move, as outlined here: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showpost.php?p=979119&postcount=83

This was easy to test, so I checked-- Pokemon with poison heal take 1 hp damage every four steps, just like those without poison heal.

I'm working on the wording for Mirror Move, as outlined here: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showpost.php?p=979119&postcount=83

I put a concise description of Mirror Move in the Moves section of the Dex, if that helps. The wording is still a little awkward, though, so I welcome improvements.

I have D&D now, but when I'm done I'll test everything on the list except order of Speed modifiers (and the stuff that others test in the meantime, of course).

Does Unburden's effect remains after the ability is lost (for example, to Skill Swap)?

I've got a question to pose. Didn't see anything about this.

Does Focus Sash prevent Sandstorm/Hail and Poison/Burn from killing you?

Can't test this as I don't have my Pearl with me, but to test, put Focus Sash on Shedinja and pair it up with Tyranitar/Hippowdon/Abomasnow and see if it lives. Next someone can Burn/Poison Shedinja to see if the Sash activates.

A Pokemon is hit by Fire Spin / Magma Storm. This Pokemon is then frozen (while the 2-5 turn trapping thing is still in effect). Are they immediately thawed by the end-of-turn "Fire" damage? (I suspect not)?

Sorry I'm late.
Shield Dust: Does Shield Dust block moves like Charge Beam from boosting when used by a Shield Dust Pokemon?
No, Charge Beam can still raise the user's Special Attack if the target has Shield Dust.
Foresight: Does Foresight ignore the evasion drop of Sweet Scent?

Odor Sleuth: Does Odor Sleuth ignore the evasion drop of Sweet Scent?
I hit my Venusaur with four Defogs followed by a Foresight from my Staraptor. Then I switched in my Forretress and hit the Venusaur with 8 out of 8 Zap Cannons. I'm pretty sure that Foresight doesn't negate negative evasion levels.

Working on the others.

If a Shedinja with a Focus Sash uses Endure and is hit, which survival effect takes priority? In other words, will the Focus Sash get wasted?

I discovered this a while ago, but don't think I posted it.

A Pokémon can only use Intimidate once per time on the field. So, say a battle starts and it's Gyarados against Venomoth. Gyarados's Intimidate hits Venomoth. Venomoth uses Skill Swap, takes Intimidate and uses it against Gyarados as Gyarados uses Dragon Dance. When Venomoth uses Skill Swap again, Gyarados gets Intimidate back, but doesn't use it. If Venomoth takes it again, it can't use it either.

This is known. My question was whether a Shield Dust Pokemon using Charge Beam would boost its own Special Attack.

Oho! Sorry for misreading. I'm assuming so, since Silver Wind can raise a Shield Dust Pokémon's stats, but I'll check.

EDIT: Yep, a Pokémon with Shield Dust can still get the Special Attack boost from using Charge Beam.
