Custap Berry Gengar & Agility special Luc

I like the choice of this round, so I have decided to participate.

Lucario is one of my favourite pokemon, and its special version, although it may be inferior to the physical one, can give good results.

For this occasion, I didn't think much about the specs set, so, if there's no problem, I decided to make it LO Agility while keeping 3 special moves. It may not be a great innovation, but I wanted to try something different. As are its EVs. 124 in speed to beat Flygon Scarf +2 Agility, simple. FBlast with LO support allows me to finish SpD fable.

Gengar has very good synergy with Lucario, the pokemon of choice this time. Considering SR+Spikes, I had to put in the famous spinblock, and I came up with Custap Berry Gengar. It's true that it's not very viable. The idea is to enter vs Starmie offensively with Hpump (not LO), and surprise with SBall. The EVs are designed to fit SR+Hpump damage. Taunt + DBond seems like a great combination to me, since you can force something else to hit you and use DB first.

Skarmory's turn. In every team with Lucario, there should be a Spikes user, as it's a very offensive pokemon that makes good use of this. I'm not sure about that EV split. I left it that way because it can fit 2 DMs of Latias / 3 Surf specs. On the physical side (108 EVs), it can take Waterfall +4 Gyara or +3 FPunch Nite / DD ttar. I added Shed Shell, taking advantage of the fact that I have a ground type in the team (which I'll give way to), and it covers very well with Skarmory.

Well, the Quagsire is not much of a science. I added it also because I needed something else to get into water moves. The EVs are from the Smogon Dex. I don't know if there's a better one, but this one allows you to hold 5 IB of offensive Starmie/3 SBall LO Gengar, for example. I opted for Curse instead of Toxic or Encore. It's a bit depending on the team, I guess.

Ttar the 4th generation 'Landorus-Therian'. My SR user, who can also threaten Starmie, Latias or Gengar with Pursuit. 248 HP / 184 SpD to fit just 3 DMs of Latias specs. The rest of the EVs go for the attack. 76 + Adamant Nature can eliminate Fable with SPower. The berry is always an unknown, but I prefer Chople, as it gives me more safety vs FBlast Gengar or things with HP Fighting like LO Rotom / NP Azelf in lesser cases.

We finished with Latias. Besides being my other water resistance (even though Quagsire is immune), it covers most of ttar's weaknesses well. There's not much mystery here either, since it's the specs set with Stalk for Spore loom. I can also try to control threats like nape (watch out for Uturn) and get trapped with Pursuit ttar. Trick on DPulse to disable special walls like fable itself, Blissey or even Snorlax. I find it more useful, although Dpulse is also useful. You're not threatened to miss and you hit hard without needing to be at -2.

☆jmiujjjj: garbage
☆jmiujjjj: yeah how often does that work for u
☆jmiujjjj: nice elo

I'm sorry I don't have anything better, but I think you can see the team in action and the function of each one. It expresses everything I mentioned. And yes, maybe my elo isn't very high, but it's been a long time since the game and the ladder didn't motivate me like it used to.

:cloyster: :lucario: :heatran: :gengar: :swampert: :latias:
mixed is legal step off, you cant make me run focus blast on a mon with very similar attack and cc

imo a VERY underrated aspect of lucario is the fact he has such strong priority while being quad rock resistant, meaning he can keep switching in and force shit out or get a ko off of the priority. no other mon has even close to this ability. the problem is that between bullet punch and espeed, both are resisted by steel, so a steel type that outspeeds lucario completely fucks the guy over. jirachi, magneton, scarf zone, scarf heatran, agility empoleon, quick metagrosses, list goes on, id argue these are some of lucarios worst matchups, especially since luc can be the designated "steel punisher" of the team. this is where vacuum wave comes in. espeed/vacuum wave is gigafucked by the ghost types but otherwise is perfect coverage. the low speed looks super fucked up, but its honestly liberating. v-wave beats luc anyway, heatran the team is good into and since theres no sd you dont care about switching out, and once heatrans at about half you can vacuum wave it or even just bluff that youre faster than it like every single other luc is. i elected for mixed because imo, lucario has 2 good special moves (vacuum wave, hp ice). speed is to outspeed celebis that outspeed ttar, spatk is to ohko magneton after rocks, rest is invested into attack for skarm and other shit. shadow ball>dark pulse btw every else in this thread is wrong. sball over crunch for wisp rotom, it sucks to get wisped but sball makes it ok

cloyster has speed to outspeed starmie and azelf after an icy wind, bulked out to have as much hp as possible while still living offensive starmie tbolt. custap is good on a rock weak mon, because you can get into range quite easily and get off a crucial rapid spin or boom. can be a good way of taking pressure off swampert to deal with phys threats if need be. beats a surprising amount od leads, this guy is a certified chin chiller. spikes are more important to take off than rocks probably because luc takes 4x more from them. boom is good because it either gets a kill, a ghost comes in which we can momentum with, or we can pick off smth with lucs priority

heatran was the first guy i put on the team after the obv luc. deals with spikers, ddancers n shit. good for the ghosts too, wisp immune sball resist. boom is good for the same reasons its good on closyer, clef is a good target

gengar is entirely standard outside of kasib berry. thats honestly just ghost ensurance. prevents spike, rocks and bi erasure because our hazard users are resources. pokes holes into shit which can be picked off

latias is like gengar but deals with dragons fires waters electrics and breloom. honestly just fills some defensive needs while still being good offence

swampert seems weird, its the rocker but like, avalanche? roar kinda C-22s it tho, cant really set up while thats in play. revealing avalanche early roar late lets bulky sweepers like cm recover latias set up for much longer thinking its fine while you recover health, if you reveal roar early you can hide a big fuckoff 120 bp ice phys attack. hidden, avalanche is massive. shown, it makes the enemy play more defensively letting you get more passive recovery (having the enemy hard switch instead of uturn is so nifty). also means we dont have to invest in spatk and can be bulkier. this set is deceptively really good. i also really like how on this team pert can never be overloaded since you have a reasonable secondary answer to everything

team is a little crackhead, but it does kinda shiest into stall, paraspam, special and mag offence from testing. biggest problem is the combo of breloom+ smth that can deal with both lati and gengar, like ttar rachi schizor or enemy scarf lati/ghosts once defensive pieces are out of the equation. shoutout to old builds of the team that desperately tried to make fucking rest houndoom work

Congratulations to Blåhaj Blast who won the teambuilding competition for Special Lucario! There were 3 votes in the tiebreaker, with one of whom was a new contributor, so matter which way you count it the win goes to Blåhaj Blast.

Blåhaj Blast.png

Since it is an odd numbered competition, the next theme could be any pokemon with no restrictions. Blåhaj Blast choose Abomasnow as the next pokemon to build with this time.
abomasnow-pokémon-abomasnow.gif

As usual, the winner of the this competition gets to pick the next theme
Once it's announced you win the competition, comment your choice in a new post with the new theme at the top of the message.

There are some rules as to what you are able to pick.
- For every odd teambuilding competition, you can pick any pokemon from the top 30 of the VR (link).
- For every even teambuilding competition, you can pick anything you want with no restrictions.

These rules are in place to ensure that we don’t get too many difficult mons to build with in a row, which has caused inactivity in the past.

You can also choose a set or a theme to build with instead of a pokemon. E.g., Build with banded tyranitar, or build with water spam. You can choose more difficult themes if you wish, but please exercise discretion.

Once picked, your choice can't be changed, so bear that in mind.

Submissions are open now and will close on November 2, at 11:00 pm GMT, and from there we'll move onto voting, which will close on November 9 at 11:00 pm GMT.

Hi everyone

10 plus year lurker, first time making a post :)

Modest Suicune, CM 3 atks punches through the opponents lead and Lum Berry lets it continue to do so without fear of being abruptly stopped by status or confusion. Just fast enough to out speed max speed Breloom.

TR Bronzong I feel is a good partner for Abomasnow as it continues the trend of allowing our team to throw out powerful attacks while having a complementing type which allows it to take hits Abomasnow doesn't want to take.

Abomasnow is meant to do as much damage as possible with Blizzard and Wood Hammer. Ice Shard to pick things off and HP Fire to catch an incoming Scizor or bulky steel which thinks it can set up hazards. Custap lets up take surprise knock outs and Wood Hammer helps us get into that 25% range.

On the TR theme, Swampert is on the team to abuse TR while also being a Zapdos switch in which the team very much needed. It also helps take on fire types like Heatran.

Donphan is great being it can spin but also because it can run Knock Off because Swampert is taking care of setting up SR for us and rounding off the team is Scarf Rotom for speed control and to take out Gyarados.

Here is a replay of everything working from the Lum Berry to the Custap Berry to the Swampert clean up under TR.

here is an odd team

:dp/metagross: :dp/abomasnow: :dp/heatran: :dp/latias: :dp/rotom-wash: :dp/suicune:

Latias is the first mon i chose, on this team latias takes advantage of hail chip + strong dragon moves to chunk opponents into range. This allows abomasnow to either not worry about them as much late game (more so wish rachi in bulkier MU's). Also cuz I was thinking about several mons that are not fighting resistant at all + aboma is lucario and heatran food. Sleep talk is not to die to breloom

Suicune is the next mon, it contributes being a fire resist, being able to take advantage of aboma soft checking a lot of water types and can apply a lot of pressure with ice shard + blizzard onto dragon types, also does pretty good into fat while suicune chunks off mons a lot esp into range of latias

Heatran finishes off the FWG core of the team, with this finished i wanted heatran to be able to boom on mons to be able to open up suicune for the sweep or take advantage of holes drilled in by suicune and boom on another target. (Meta should be BP btw i forgot to change it after some battles)

Meta is the lead, this would not only allow me to have enough answers for ttar who may just go ham with DD (thanks to the bullet punch i forgot to put in), be able to set the pace of the battle by beating most leads, and also by taking advantage of hail to beat down skarm, zong, and wish rachi who would be way more resilient in sand

Finally its rotom-w, i felt fighting moves, and electric types may go ham vs the team, although tbh i felt any other scarfer would have felt odd... where smth like scarf flygon is prob an idea but i felt very weak to breloom)

edit: the original team had role play latias but it doesnt work like i thought so i changed it to tbolt

old school balance structure with abomasnow + double spin
this gets owned by knock off clef, so i decided going with adamant donphan and adamant aboma so hopefully those 2 + rachi can pressure the blob enough

(btw people are so greedy with their starmies)

haha youre total right about people not respecting wood hammer.

i used the team in the 1550 rank range and ive won 5 games in a row. never used role play once. can you explain how to use it.

love the head smash don on incoming rotom wanting to spin block

Honesty in all the testing i did i never faced a clef so i also didnt use it, but in theory u use it once clef is burned so it loses health in hail
for ladder tbolt is probably better haha
doesnt role play copy the opponents ability? i dont think the move gives your opponent your ability.

Hello all. Here is my Abomasnow Team

Abomasnow was the first mon I chose. I knew I wanted to run a more offensive set because I don't like how the hail stall teams operate in DPP. First, I went with the standard stab moves but didn't know what I wanted in the last slot, eventually deciding on protect because I don't feel like I need EQ or FP. Protect lets me heal while allowing me to see what my opponent wants to do.

Heatran and Starmie were the second and third mons I added. These two mons were recommended on the strategy dex as partners for Aboma so I went with them. Scarf Tran makes sure Rachi and Luc don't get out of hand while checking every steel type. Starmie spins. I went with max HP because I wanted it to be able to take a fighting type attack and didn't need it to be super offensive on this team.

Swampert sets up rocks and is good into the ground types, Tran, Tar, Dnite, and Rachi.

Mixed Flygon is a fun mon I've been wanting to use. This mon helps deal with the steels so I don't have to solely rely on Heatran. Physical attack investment lets it throw off big Eq's, koing 240HP Pert from 50% and handling Clefable nicely.

Metagross was the final member of the team. Towards the end of the teambuilding process, I realized I needed a lead. I chose 4 attacks Gross because it's a juggernaut, able to get through every lead apart from Tran and Skarm. It's also not a suicide lead, so I can keep it around for a bit if need be.

I'll take a gander at this since it'll be a while before another DPP Tour swings by.

https://pokepast.es/3ac8e03555539b15

Built this during my DPP Globals run this year/near the end of the most recent RoAPL when our team was waiting for semifinals tiebreak to wrap up. The team was a spikes balance team where I thought offensive Obama can shine. Lead Jirachi would spread paralysis with body slam, set rocks and all that. Starmie is psychic because I thought the Breloom and Gengar MU was really rough and it's really good to punish Gengar which often are ev'ed to live non specs offmie hydros etc and is a pretty undertilized move on defmie.

Skarmory is spdef so it can take hits from Specs lati easier as well as surprise fire move coverage on mons such as Mixed Tar while still being bulky enough to cover Metagross. SubSplit Gar gives the team a way to combat fatter structures alongside Abomasnow. Scarf Flygon was chosen given I wasn't relying on nearly as much paralysis and it would give me an out into fire punch ddtar. Heatran can be a difficult mu but Starmie can at least try to force a boom on non HP Grass Heatran. It is mildly annoying into sub rotom however. The Starmie can be TWave over Psychic for a better Rotom matchup and ease of use.
