E3 2011 Conferences Thread

I missed Sony's due to the hockey game but came home and fast-forwarded through it. Skipped the UC3 and Bioshock Infinite demos as I'm going to buy them anyway and don't need anyone spoiling it to know why I should buy them.

Bioshock for Vita and Uncharted (previously confirmed) + Vita at $250 means I am now purchasing one most likely Day 1. I mean hell, I paid that for 3DS with no games.

Watched Sony's earlier today. Not a lot there I'm excited about; it annoys me that the gaming industry seems to think "RPG" means a grinding-economy game like WoW.

Lot of emphasis on Move and the Vida, neither of which I'm interested in. I was pretty impressed by the two-in-one 3D screen, although I don't think they really understand 'affordable 3D gaming', given it retails for basically $250-300 anyway. Still, the idea of having two players seeing completely different things on the same screen has piqued my interest.

Vita will be extremely competitive, definitely far more so than PSP v DS ever was. Competition is good for us all as consumers - I for one am excited. But I am now and will always be a Nintendo man, because they have by far the best 1st party games. I hope they prove me right during their conference.

Is anyone else really impressed with Nintendo's strategy though? Here we have Microsoft and Sony peddling mostly casual shit (I'm sorry Move fans, it's definitely still casual shit) and Nintendo is probably about to come out blazing with a hardcore lineup of games. Brilliant.

there was a bioshock: infinite demo, and i missed it? =( the only thing i would have been interested in watching...

I remember someone talking about this when the Kinect and Move were first announced.

Nintendo got first-mover advantage on the casual gamer market, appealing with their motion-sensitive control, basic game premise, etc.

The other companies all abandoned their developments for hardcore gamer core market, chasing down Nintendo's monopoly over casual gamers.

Then Nintendo capitalises on the jaded hardcore gamer market that's been abandoned by the others, and gets another first-mover advantage with a new range of hardcore games.

Cunning plan, Reggie. Cunning plan.

Very excited about Uncharted 3 and the God of War HD ports. Always wanted to play those games but could never bring myself to buy a PSP solely for them.

edit: MGS HD Collection AAAAAAAAAAAA

Hoping that Nintendo will finally release a classic but good console, just like the old days.
But my wet dream is to have a Mother (Earthbound zero) remake for the 3DS, please let this happen!, I would kill a man for that.

Anyway, about the Vita, why is everything connected to the social networks now, I'm the only one who doesn't need a facebook to breath?, I want consoles to play games dammit.

... how much did you expect a 3D 27inch (?) TV to be? $50? lol.

Kid Icarus looks hella fun and I've wanted Resident Evil's Mercenary Mode game for months now. I just wonder how greatly the Vita will effect third party's support of the Nintendo 3DS later on, you guys think they'll favor the Vita?

AND IS THEY'RE ANYTHING THAT NEW CONTROLLER CAN'T DO?

WOAH BATMAN A.A AND ASSASSIN'S CREED ON THE WII U I'M GOING TO NEED TO GET A JOB AT THIS RATE!

Feels like I just got beat in the head with a bat
Same here.

Pii U, that cavalcade of shit for the new console was horrible. The 3DS line up was solid enough, so I guess that saves this conference from falling into the depths with the 2008 conference.

So I just got home. Did I miss anything significant? I assume they're on a break.

When Reggie says that Pokemon will be avaible at the virtual store I thought "please be Crystal online, please be Crystal online, please be Crystal online"
"Pokedex 3D" FUUUUUUU-

Ugh, anyway, I didn't liked that Wii U thing, like I predicted before in the Project cafe topic, it looks heavy as shit, your arms will be tired in no time, but the drawing option is cool, I guess

For the 3DS everything was very "meh" (Mario Kart again, Luigi's Mansion again?, c'mon! give Luigi a decent game for once) except for Kid Ikarus, it looks very fun and you can play online too

In my 6 or 7 years of watching E3, TGS, GDC, GamesCom, whatever, Nintendo just won my award for "Most Confusing Conference". I have no idea what they just announced.

Eh, it looks to me like it'd be the same weight as the iPad and if you get your arms tired from that, you need to work on something or another. It has children as a major demographic, it's not gonna be overly heavy.

Nintendo had a much better conference than the PS3 and Xbox due to their kinda lame performances.

I mean, I'm not saying this is the greatest thing Nintendo's ever done, but this is way more promising then what the Wii was when it was first announced.

When they said Pokemon 3D, I seriously thought it was gonna be Snap 2, but alas, that game is only a fleeting dream.

the 3ds in itself isnt all that. takes a good minute to get your eyes settled, and if anything..i feel like i have to look away from what's going on, to see the 3d. And Pokemon still doesn't get the love and attention it truly deserves.. why ignore the fact that it's still just as popular as the late 90s.. and not truly capitalize on it.

Well now that I have gotten over my initial shock:

Beginning was really great. Looking forward to all of those 3DS games. Luigi's Mansion 2 and Super Mario 3D especially.

The WiiU... where to begin? I mean, it looks a little clunky I'll be honest. I wish we just had a regular controller for once... that thing is enormous. I'm glad it isn't just a controller for the Wii, and actually a new console though. HD is always nice. It has some good 3rd party support, but fuck...it's akin to the stuff that Xbox and Sony have now, what's going to happen when when they get new consoles? Where were all of the 1st party games on it? Why did they cocktease Smash Bros like that?

The thing the really pushed was the controller, but there is an actual console unit aside from it, it streams to the TV and the controller at the same time. So yeah, it is an entirely new console.

And yeah it looks like a TP sequel (which I am definitely OK with).
Edit: Upon looking more it just looks exactly like Armogohma? Like basically a carbon copy except for the eyes in front. Looks like a sequel.

Started watched at the Nintendo part when they talked about Skyward Sword...
I even thought they would release a new system (separate from the Wii) compatible with Wii games (as Wii was compatible with GC games). For me, it looks like a new add-on to the Wii, but I'm glad they promised they'll release new games around it (as Microsoft announced for their Kinect).

However, I was a little disappointed because they didn't show whether Blue Shells will be removed from Mario Kart 3DS (but that's another story)...
