Electro Dance Music

Skream was one of the artists that got me into the whole dubstep genre of music, his later stuff is starting to have more of 'early Rusko' sound to it, is that a bad thing? I say not =D. Really chilled out tune.

Cracking tune! That and Where You Should be are both nicely chilled tunes, got me into downtempo music more than anything else probably!

Levels Blah

Yeah, I first heard Levels at Creamfields in the UK, absolutely huge tune, it's been all over the place ever since!

not trying to be a dick, but that skream song sounds nothing like rusko's initial sound. also im not saying its a bad song persay, but its hard to label stuff like this dubstep, i mean can you identify any dub or 2 step in it? Bit of a shame really, skream is so fucking good sometimes but that album was average

It's definitely come out of the same school of thought as dubstep, lets not get too picky here! I also disagree on the point of the album, I think it's top quality! Sure it's not perhaps what your average dubstep fan would like, but I'd say it's much cleverer than that, I can sit down and listen to it, which is more than I can say to most dubstep tunes, I have to either be on some dancefloor or really bored!

Nero is becoming one of my favorite artists really fast

I've been listening to a lot more DnB lately instead of dubstep. It's more high energy to me and I dunno I just like it more. J Majik and Wickaman are probably my favorite at the moment, followed by the Dirtyphonics.

Loadstar - Space Between

Danny Byrd - Tonight ft Netsky

Rusko - Everyday (Netsky Remix)

Pleased to see someone with very similar music taste to me! Or at least someone posting three tracks that I think are right up there! DnB will always be my first love! Do you have last.fm? A couple of my favourites at the moment:

Cut Off the Past by Unquote - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNzdPnpMH2Q
Inside My Soul by Logistics - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaVWRwXSQPs

More from my current list of favorites:

> Rapture – by Nadia Ali (Avicii remix). Here is the original for those interested; both are great.

> When It Rains - by Nadia Ali (Original Mix). Here is a link to the original as well.

I've been playing these almost on a daily basis since I listened to them for the first time a few weeks ago. Also, I might as well mention that Avicii played Rapture during last week's concert in Orlando, and it was great, totally loved it. I tend to love this kind of Trance a lot (the girl's voice, that particular beat, nothing that's really hardcore) and these two are no exception, they're great.

Swedish House Mafia - Save the World (Zedd Remix)

A million times better then the original mix, I love dropping this at clubs and everything Zedd touches is incredible! Definitely recommend you guys checking out his Soundcloud, he even has a remix of the Zelda theme for all the fans out there haha!

@ the above two posts - all four of these songs are in my regular rotation to play at gigs! They're all awesome (I have a soft spot for the Hardwell bootleg in particular, being a man who enjoys making his own bootlegs myself). Love the music taste of Smogoners, would definitely be fun to play for you guys at a Smocon event or something haha!

Cool, I have been DJing some, do you have any recommendations? I am looking for some good tracks to play as I have very little music to play as I usually partner DJ playing 10 or so songs, I just need a larger library.

A lot of good stuff!

I've been listening to a bit of DeadMau5 lately and I really like it because it's dubstep but it doesn't really slam the bass directly in your face; its more musical. Ghosts N Stuff was really interesting to listen to for the first time as well. That said, I've been listening to Example lately and they have some really cool stuff. It's kinda techno but its also a bit like pop(kinda, they're not too mainstream to my knowledge). For reference.

Some of my friends have made some dubstep tracks, I'll probably link them sometime.

edit: My bad then, I always thought it was dubstep because pandora put it there v_v

ive been putting off posting in this thread since it came to life again and i feel bad about it
so heres some stuff the first two are pretty poppy and the next two are more hard house but the rest is trance

Andy Lopez - Noche del Amor
CCK - Pinball
Deejay Bola - Private Jet
Relanium - Leel Lost
PPK - Resurrection
Gouryella - Gouryella (Magik Mix)
Solar Factor - No Return
Neo & Farina - Binary Refined
Liquid Child - Diving Faces
Ayla - Ayla (DJ Taucher Mix)
2HD - Sunflakes (Vincent de Moor Remix)

Free Radical - Surreal (En Motion Remix)

Just letting you know Deadmau5 isn't dubstep...He has a few debstep tracks but if you listen to all of For Lack of a Better Name you will figure it out. I like to think of it as progressive house, but I could be totally wrong.

Yeah most of Deadmau5's older stuff eg. strobe is progressive house, his new stuff is mainly eletro house.

Happy to help mate! I have way too much music anyway haha. Depends what genre you're looking at playing mainly! If you let me know what type of music you're hoping to play I'm happy to give you a list of some decent songs that fit what you want :)

I personally like using House, prog. House, Dubstep (It's ok, but I like to do a themed set for it, only dubstep), Electro, Hardstyle can work sometimes, and because they are easy to mix together. I have used some electronica and minimal techno but the floor really doesn't like it, lol. Pop is bleh, remixes of all songs are fine as they usually add a really nice touch for dancing.

If you have any advice or recommendations I'm all ears.

Here is an ok set I made at home: http://soundcloud.com/earth-in-sight/set-lectron

You like a lot of similar stuff to me, and agreed - do not try and mix dubstep with other types of music unless its like an electro song with a dubstep drop! I'll check out your set and give you advice for your mixing :). I'll also start listing a lot of my music over the next few days in this thread, my best advice would be to check the Beatport charts (top 100's, genre specific top 100's and artist personal charts) as well as music forums. It's where I've found a lot of amazing tracks. That and following artists on SoundCloud/YouTube surfing haha.

In the meantime guys check this out, it's my own mashup/bootleg I made in a few hours at night! I've done some mastering and EQing too so it sounds better then it did before but probably still needs touching up, let me know what you all think though!

Chuckie vs Duck Sauce - Jumping with Wolves (3verest Bootleg)

EDIT @ Bluecaptain: Your EQing doesn't seem too bad and your track selection is wicked! Keep practising those transitions though cause some of them were a little off beat (e.g. Strobe (Special Features Remix) and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger), the beauty of even older house/dance music genres is that they're all sectioned into bars of 8 or 16. What software program do you use in conjunction with your decks, or do you use CDJ's with just CD's? If it's the latter you have to concentrate and notice when the song changes at the start of each "section", and unless you get to a really advanced stage and are making some super special transition I don't recommend bringing a track in on any other point then that. If you're using CDJ's/your decks with something like Traktor, you have the massive advantage of being able to visually see the waveform of the track and with that, the "sections" of the songs are physically represented on the screen by the changes in pitch and other variables that affect the waveform! Keep on practicing though, you definitely have potential and will continue to improve as you go (hell, just look at the difference between my mixes earlier in this thread and later). The way I still learn how to mix better (because lets be honest, I have much to learn as well) is listening to the mixes of my favourite artists on SoundCloud and note down how they transition every track, and try and emulate it myself. Best of luck my friend and I'll keep sending you awesome songs to add to your collection ;). Feel free to send some my way too, it seems to me that you have some good stuff as well!

On the topic of a mix, the one I just recorded is 70 % complete, I'll either edit this post or post it in a new post for you guys to see! Electro House!

EDIT TWO: Here we go!

In my dorm I don't have any decks so I use Virtual DJ home free and a mouse with mp3s.

Live I borrow whatever equipment they have, usually I'm at frat partys, Alternate party's to those crappy Highschool dances or just with my friends. I want to go bigger, but I have to get better first obviously. oh and thanks this is all really helpful.

kk first off creamfields was fucking sick

also, i agree that album wasnt what the average dubstep fan likes but i didnt mean my criticism in that sense, I genuinely think it wasnt a great album, I listened to it a fair bit and never really got into any of it. also im a very picky dubstep fan so my opinion probably aint that relevant

but yeah just saw john digweed in manchester, so good. never really listened to his stuff before but hes a big name so i made the trek and now i just love the tribal scene. cool story, room was full of blatant undercover cops (everyone was on uppers and they were looking in our eyes and feeling pockets) and he was just blazing a joint on main stage, what a hero

anyway here are some classics which everyone probs knows but yeah, you can never go wrong with these guys

SO bumping with some quality music I found on youtube a while back. popemobile posted a video link that had a pretty sick beat in the GIF thread, I looked at that artist and he's pretty amazing if you ask me. I don't think he's too mainstream but his videos definitely deserve more than 5,000 views!
