Emerald/Diamond Glitch?

Well, I'm not sure whether this should be in the Emerald section or the Diamond/Pearl section since this involves both, yet surprisingly doesn't involve Pal Park.

So I just got a used copy of Emerald today. It could save and everything, so I assumed the game was fine. Then I start up Pokemon Diamond, and it doesn't have the Migrate pokemon from Emerald option. I figure that's fine, since it's a brand new file in Emerald and the trainer doesn't even have a pokemon yet. Then I start up Emerald and it says the file was deleted. The exact quote was "The save file has been erased due to corruption or damage."

From that point on, whenever I created a new save file on Emerald, it would be deleted once I started to play Pokemon Diamond with Emerald in the GBA slot. I know it's not my DS or my copy of Diamond since my copy of Fire Red has not had this problem. And Emerald works perfectly as long as I don't play Diamond. Has anyone seen this error before, and does anyone know what I can do about it?

EDIT: I now suspect that my copy of Pokemon Emerald may be inauthentic and not produced by Nintendo, which would explain why it doesn't work.
 
Did you ever catch 7 pokemon first?

It might be a bug caused when you try to import without having enough pokemon.
 
No, I haven't tried catching 7+ pokemon. Actually, if anyone knows of any potential restrictions for importing Pokemon, I'd appreciate knowing them. Like if you need to beat both games before you can use Pal Park. I already beat Fire Red by the time I started importing, so it's possible that I am not far enough in Emerald. But even so, I wouldn't expect your file to be deleted. I'm hoping there's a point you can reach in Emerald where this error won't occur, or some other solution. I'd hate to have to buy another copy of Emerald.
 
You need to get the national dex (see every pokemon in the Sinnoh dex and talk to prof.) to import pokemon.

The game you are importing from needs to have a pokemon in the PC (it might need at least six pokes in the PC, but I'm not sure)

I have no idea what is wrong with your Emerald.

Edit: let me get this right: If you start a new game on your emerald, save, turn off, turn back on, and Diamond ISN'T in the DS, does it still erase? Or will it only erase if you turn Diamond on with Emerald in the DS?
 
Yeah you need 6 pokes in the PC as you can't import them from the party and you must import 6 at once. Try catching some pokemon and putting 6 in the PC and see if you still have the same problem.
 
Emerald works perfectly on its own. I can save, turn it off, and turn Emerald on again and keep playing without any problems. The file gets deleted when I start to play -Diamond- and then go back to playing Emerald. Thus, the problem is that I can't play Diamond with Emerald in the GBA slot, preventing me from using Pal Park to transfer pokemon. I can probably arrange to get my Emerald pokemon traded into my Fire Red and migrate them that way, but that's a total pain in the ass since I only have one GBA and no GBA link cable. I think the Emerald File gets deleted when Diamond is trying to figure out if there's a Pokemon game in your GBA slot. I don't even have to continue in Diamond for the file to get deleted.

Also, I'm gonna try catching 12 pokemon in Emerald really quickly and see if I still have that problem.
 
I bought my Diamond new from Gamestop and haven't had any problems with it except this one.

I bought Emerald used on Amazon. I checked the seller's rating, and it was pretty high with a lot of reviewers, so I figured his stuff should be pretty reliable. The condition of the Emerald also seems just fine, except for this problem.
 
Flash-Cart? It may have not been the seller-persay, but he may have gotten a rip-off clone and then passed it to you. Anyone know how to check if it is a flash cart?
 
I wouldn't be able to recognize a flash cart if it is one. But it looks pretty similar to my copy of Fire Red, only green. It has the Nintendo logos in the right places and everything.

EDIT: Nevermind. Turns out that my other GBA games have a Nintendo logo inside the actual slot that you can see, and this one doesn't. I guess Diamond recognizes that this Emerald is a fake when it tries to migrate the Pokemon and then deletes the file. Dammit. XD Now I have to get an authentic copy. I can play this one, but if I just wanted to play through, I could use VisualBoy.
 
To clear it up, there is a distinct difference between a bootleg and a flashcart. Flashcarts feature rewritable memory, legit and bootlegs do not.

If it looks like a real game but isn't its a bootleg, and some bootlegs are very good in terms of looking like the real thing.

That said this problem is very weird and nothing comes to mind it terms of explaining it.
 
Now I think it is a bootleg. However, it's still interesting that I'd be able to play and save a bootleg copy perfectly on a DS, but it wouldn't work with Diamond & Pal Park. I wonder if I could use this to trade Pokemon to other GBA games.
 
I don't know if it could do anything to your FireRed, but I wouldn't risk it . :/ Why not just go get a new Emerald, or is it that elusive/costly?
 
That's what I figure too. I have too much good stuff on Fire Red to risk it.

Now I'm going to get a new copy of Emerald and get my money back for this one since it's definitely not what the seller told me it was. And I'll buy it new so I don't have to deal with this again. I'm just not very happy since I got this one for $15 less than I can buy it new from the cheapest place, and I have to wait another week or so before I can play it. I was excited to play it today, since I haven't played any of the R/S/E games completely through.
 
Been there, done that. Same exact thing happened to the fake Emerald I got from eBay when I tried linking it up to Colosseum.

There's too many bootlegs floating around eBay. I'm just going to wait it out until retailers drop the price. Hope you got your money back though.

I don't think they're going to drop the price anytime soon. It's been four years and R/S have only dropped in price $5. However, it's really strange: FR/LG (2004) and XD (2005) are Player's Choice titles now, much cheaper, but R/S (2003) still hasn't gone down that path, and neither has Emerald (2005). What triggers PC is still beyond me.

In the meantime, there are ways to get around it. I hae a $5 off any video game coupon from Best Buy, obtained by giving the gamer's gift card.
 
Anyone have any advice about buying used from, say, GameStop? It's where I got my Emerald (which works just fine), and since you can check for the logo yourself in person, it seems like a much safer bet. Or was I just an idiot for trying and I just happened to get really lucky?
 
I'd assume that it's a lot safer to buy from an actual store. You'd think the employees there are able to spot the fakes and the store has a reputation it needs to uphold. Getting accused of selling bootlegs can't be good for business.

Plus, like you said, you can inspect it before buying, unlike eBay.
 
I recently got a copy of Saphire off ebay played normally the only thing that seemed wierd is when you started up the game and after the title screen it would say Game Save Successfully. I didnt know it was a fake version until I tried to link it to XD it erased all my data :(
 
This happened to me, sort of. I have a bootleg copy of Leaf Green (discovered only after Diamond wouldn't let me Pal Park). But I've been trading with Emerald (real) for months, and everything works fine. I wouldn't be afraid to try and trade back and forth.

Well I've bought a couple of used games from gamestop several times. The thing with Gamestop is that if the game doesn't work (or has an error or something), then you can always return it. Always hold on to your receipt until you are certain that your game is in good working condition.

In addition, Gamestop employees will sometimes test things before they agree to take it from you. I once traded in a GBSP to get money down on a DS, and the employee tested the SP first by playing a game that used all buttons.

So used stuff from gamestop is usually a safe bet.
