Event Discussion

The way that the Japanese RGBY Mew event will work is that you go to a participating store and trade for it via the Cable Club.

If I recall correctly, Generation I event Mew all had fixed IVs for everyone, such that it could never be Shiny when transferred to Gen II. But as far as I know, the OT(s), ID(s), and IVs for legitimate Gen I Mew were never documented. Wonder if the fixed-IV thing will still happen this time around, and if so whether we'll be able to document this for the first time.

EDIT: Actually - wasn't there a Generation III event Mew that was also a direct trade? Wonder if those had fixed IVs/Natures/Shininess too.

Yeah, there was! My brother and I went to a Toys 'R' Us for that even. We were allowed to trade any Pokémon we'd like for that Mew, so we got one each for my FireRed and his LeafGreen. I know for a fact that we both got different IVs and Natures on our own Mew. I can't say that I saw any shinies on the distributor I traded with, and our own weren't shiny either. Maybe there was some lucky Golden Ticket of a trainer who got a shiny Mew from that event somewhere else?

Speaking of that event, that was the very first event Pokémon I'd ever received. To think about the Pokes I've received from events since then and how the methods of receiving them have evolved over time...and now we get a whole year to gather even more Pokémon from events in multiple ways! It feels really good to be a Pokémon trainer right now.

Went to GameStop today to get my Mew, but they were out of cards. They lost 100 in the first week. I've been told there will be more Saturday though, so I'm getting my Mew soon. :D

A bit late, but the MYSTRY Mews that were distributed back in 06 all had a small, pre-selected set of available IV spreads. Someone datamined the distro roms a while back (Sabresite iirc) and confirmed there aren't any shiny spreads available among them.

Not sure about the RBY Mew though; was around 6 years old back then, so I never did go to that event. .-.

This info was exactly what I was looking for. Any links to further details?

Does anyone know if this Mew is shinylocked(not the Gen 1 Mew, but the Gamestop one)? I've been veeery tempted to RNG a shiny one, but I'll settle for a standard Mew if not.

Next up is Celery, I mean Celebii. That's one that hasn't been seen in awhile, (except for the Pokebank one) and this one can actually be RNG'd for IVs and stuff.

I'm pretty certain all event Pokemon are shinylocked

Well, not exactly. There were a bunch of Gen V Hoenn Pokemon that were distributed around 2012 in Japan (Kyushu events iirc) that were not shiny locked, for example. But yeah, generally events are locked to either never be shiny, or always be shiny.

It is shiny locked. Also, RNGing Gen VI games is impossible right now, and probably won't ever happen in the future, unless there was a sudden breakthrough that I am not aware of?

Yeah, me too. I was told there might be more at this other GameStop, and he was even nice enough to offer to call them up to confirm if they still had any, but it was way too far away, so I said screw it (well, actually "no thanks"), because it isn't like I don't have my Mew from 2010.

But I guess the lesson is that you should really get your Eventmons in the first week of the month, because the "geniuses" who were supposed to predict the potential turnaround wildly underestimated how many would want their Mew! Maybe we should just go back to having them downloaded wirelessly, and skip the cards, or they should actually make sure they print enough for each store, because if I didn't already have Mew, I'd be screaming bloody murder!!!

I ended up not getting the Mew too. The guy at the GameStop I went to was super nice too and called two other stores, but no Mew cards. I got two free posters though. Worst part is that I got sick later that day.

There may still be people trading codes in the WiFi sub..they don't expire until May 31st
You mean I don't have the trouble of having to go get a card, only to find out that all of them are gone, and the trip was an intergalactic waste of time, and spend time scratching my cosmic head, wondering why it couldn't just be a direct download, with a download set up for however many individuals might want one? Cool.
It's not a waste of time...it got you into the store (which is really the whole point). There are 3 more distributions like that this year (plus maybe volcanion)...just think of it as a learning experience.

Boy, it is lucky I already have two Mews, otherwise we'd really just have to agree to disagree. Not that I don't already have a Celebi (or three really), but it seems that having a Bold 3+ 31 IV Celebi would be a good thing. Too bad it'll be Lv.100. It'd be a good Grass type to later train in Sun or Moon.

I would call beforehand. Thing is, a lot of Gamestop employees hang on to these things to sell after. Which blows, but it is what it is.

I think Nintendo partly does it so that there is still some rarity to the mythical pokemon. Mew is more popular than any of the others too.

Great. Conspiracy theories. And the worst part is: it might actually be true!!!
