1. 9/11(kick started the decade and dictated everything after it)
2. Obama(first black president, most famous man in the world, yatta yatta yatta)
3. youtube(ya dig)
4. Economic Crash of 2008(yea yea)
5. Swine Flu(perfect end to the decade)
6. Avatar(sick movie, very groundbreaking)

Our generation will remember 9/11. Our children and grandchildren will remember this decade as the time when Florida was above sea level. :/

Why arent the two biggest events on there? A black president and the death of Michael Jackson? Oh and 9/11 specifically... And nobody will ever remember this recession... it wont spiral downward enough for us to remember it. Besides, the 1920's depression will overshadow it.

9/11 this, 9/11 that

I hardly ever think about 9/11. Is 9/11 really that influential on American life? People think of the economy, not the twin towers. They think of increased hassle at airports. Maybe in New York and neighboring states this is a big deal, but in the Midwest (and probably other parts of the United States) we have forgotten. Probably because it never affected our lives in the first place.

6. Avatar(sick movie, very groundbreaking)

You're joking...?

Damnit, I just noticed that this poll was for the past decade, not the past year, so I just voted the celebrity gossip thing in light of all the recent celebrity deaths/scandals.

For the DECADE though, I'd have to agree with the top tier answers, Terrorism and the rise of the internet. Terrorism should probably win, as that basically kicked off the decade and never stopped kicking.

The most long-lasted purposeful contribution, and therefore memory (I think), will be all of the contributions and advancements in the internet.

Global warming will be a long-term effect but I don't know how commonplace the discussion will be.

A lot of stuff went on with wars and terrorism, I think that'll be talked about for a while.

Besides all that listed, it'll easily be remembered as the shittiest decade for basically everything and anything that wasn't technological.

Shittest decade for America, thats right. Progressives in office for the whole time. Some experts think gold could go to 5-6 thousand an ounce. If that happens the world is on FIRE. Please help us is this happens by selling the gold and buying fire extinguishers. Also, we have the fact our market is more regulated than CHILE'S. Out of 72 countries, Chile was 3rd. America was 17th. We have, what, 13 billion in debt, political backroom deals, and other assorted things along this line. The end is near.

I guess Obama. I've never seen so many shirts and hats and pins and general spazzing out of a minority in my life. And the fact he won a Peace prize for "what he would do for peace". I think, in general, his approach to health care is wrong, but he's doing a better job than a good few other Presidents. (lol)

The recession hit alot of people, and Katrina is still being talked about like it happened yesterday.

I'll remember NASA retired the space shuttles, so I had to change my career path.

I hate to say it but we never remember any decade by what happened that was good. Only the negative. So it will be remembered as a time of terrorism and pointless invasion.

The 60s is probably remembered most for hippies, which if not exactly 'good' are at least not negative. I think longer time periods tend to get remembered for good things. The Englightenment, the Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution.
Of course, there are few if any things that can be called 'good' without reservation.

Probly the economy because there always talking about how stocks are going down and how theres more and more unemployment
