man i knew that was the national right away at the end of the episode tonight. so awesome that they did that.

edit: just saw somebody mentioned it a few posts up. good stuff.

also, this episode was great except for the part where cersei was talking for 10-15 minutes. she is so boring and annoying. how did anybody get through book 4 again? ugh

yeah, the national was an excellent ending song

agreed on cersei, she is a whiney, annoying bitch. i haven't read the books but i was really hoping she was going to poison herself

I hate Cersei more than any other character in the book. Mel kinda walked away from me hating her, but who cares. It's Cersei. I couldn't stand her chapters in book 4, but I couldn't walk away from any information(d-d-davos)

I'm so happy they shave her from head to toe

Out of all the maim moms in the book, Cat is the best, imo.

Blackwater was good, but I was looking forward to seeing both sides' ships burn. Battle was well done for a TV show though; didn't quite match the feeling of the LOTR sagas however.

Also, Jaime is quickly becoming a favorite for me after reading through 7/8ths of Storm of Swords. I thought he was merely just a sister-fucking arrogant knight but turns out George Martin can make me like this bastard. Complex character with complex emotions and a rather complex situation he's in right now.

Also

They fucking killed Rob Stark. Definitely a twist of the gut there

I've read books 1 and 2, and have been more than satisfied for the most part about how the show has adapted them. Keep this in mind, since the rant I'm about to go on might make it seem like I feel otherwise. Dany stamping her feet and swearing violence against people has become quite tiresome, but that's pretty common, I'm sure.

However, I have to say that I was actually pretty disappointed with the last episode. I liked the inital wildfire scene; however, let's not forget that in the books that part was much, much more prolonged. The boat exploding only crippled a part of Stannis' fleet, not the entire group. The show completely dismissed the genius tactics of Tyrion making the chain across Blackwater Bay to trap the fleet once they'd moved in, and the catapults throwing more wildfire were nixed as well. This ties into the scene where Mandon Moore attacks Tyrion; in the books, this was in the water, but in the show, they were forced to move it onto land.

Also, I have to say that the fight scenes were really pretty lame. To this point, the show has done an excellent job of making a small number of people SEEM like a very large group of people, through clever use of camera shots, etc.; however, Ep9 totally failed to live up to that. It was very patently obvious during many points throughout the episode that they were working with a pretty small number of people. The walls also seemed very... short. Did anyone else notice that? The whole set just looked very amateur, the ladders, the walls, etc.

I do enjoy Arya's storyline. Though she also has a little bit of spoiled brat to her, it's being quickly culled out by her harsh life experiences. I liked the portrayal of Jaqen, though IIRC he almost never used personal pronouns like "I" or "you" in the books, where he seems to do it pretty often in the books. However, I think my favorite part is the interplay between Arya and Gendry - I could see them ending up together. (To those who've read the later books, don't spoil it! :p )

I continue to hold faith in GRRM and the HBO writers, as for the most part they've done a fantastic job, and I fully expect the finale this weekend to be fantastic.

Just got to watch "Blackwater," and it was definitely the coolest episode of the season. Of course, I'm a bookfag and can spend this whole post pointing out all the shit they changed / left out (I WANT MY FUCKING CHAIN GOD DAMN IT), but I'd rather just join in the general appreciation for the things that were actually cool. That wildfire explosion; holy shit dude. Bronn and The Hound are two of my favorite characters and they were definitely showing off how badass they were in that episode. The Rains of Castamere being thrown in like that was also beautifully done.

Just finished book 3 a week ago and I have to say it's definitely my favorite so far.
Seriously, the book just flips the badass switch on half the characters to the "ON" position. Berric Dondarrion, The Hound, The Red Viper, The Mountain, Tyrion, John Snow, Danny, Arya, Jaime, Brienne, Stannis, etc. ALL SO FUCKING COOL, even more than usual!
Not just that, but I got to see almost all the characters that I couldn't stand die! Fuck you Joffrey, you will not be missed. You too Lysa.

EDIT: Also, kind of noticed this:
So if you aren't watching Game of Thrones you should be. To summarize it would be impossible since it blows everything else on tv out of the water.
"It blows everything else on tv out of the water." NOW LITERALLY.

For anyone on this thread that hasn't read the books, don't even think about clicking the show tags regardless of how curious you are!

must resist urge to click hide tags...

holy shit blackwater was cool, I really wanted Cersei to die though, shame.

Well, since S2 is almost over, any actors/actresses you guys want for the third season?

Beric Dondarrion(He already showed up in the first season, so, I don't know what's gonna happen)
Thoros of Myr

Tormund Giantsbane

Ramsay Bolton

Wow, GoT thread, nice.

Well, basically, I'm disappointed on how the TV series have portrayed the Danaerys story arc. There are those WTF scenes like someone stole her dragons??? Like it never happened in the books.
Anyways, I'm excited in the coming 3rd season. A Storm of Swords is more action packed than the first two books. Lots of new characters like Daario, Roose Bolton, Mance Ryder, a bald handless Jamie and of course the Crannogs.

Thinking back on the book, I can't even remember why exactly Dany went to see the Undying, other than someone said "hey go see the Undying" or something. In general, I feel like she doesn't face a whole lot of explicit conflict in the book, so I can at least understand why they added some tension for the show. Gotta make sure Dany is liked, seeing as how she's one of the best characters :P

I just hope that the casting for Swords doesn't make me rage as much as some of the choices for this season did. I'll never get used to Asha/Yara looking so... wrong.

Good to know the Reeds will be showing up, tho. I was getting worried for what was going to happen to Rickon...

I wonder how much they're going to be able to fit into the final episode this week.

They still have to finish Arya's escape and Jaqen's coin, show us Tyrion's new sexy face, have the bastard of Bolton sack Winterfell, have Snow kill the Half-hand and venture out with the wildlings, have Danny burn down the House of the Undying and receive all of her visions of the future, show the aftermath of the Blackwater battle, and have the Stark boys leave Winterfell and start their journey to the far north (with the Reeds, who as of yet have not been introduced).

Seriously, think about that. Last week was JUST one battle with a few side notes to remind you that there are other characters in the show, and they're supposed to fit all the shit I just mentioned into an episode of practically the same length?

Question about the show, just saw blackwater two nights ago, haven't seen ep 6, 7, or 8.
What happened to the ground assault from the other side of the city? Yeah sure stannis leading the charge is bad ass as fuck but I was so confused?? did they just completely take out highgarden/tywin saving the day and shit? How are they going to shove in the whole margery engagement now?

Also: wild fire was cool as fuck, disappointed about lack of chain.
Who was it that was complaing about cersei talking so much? Shit yo she was my favorite part of the episode(burst out laughing at "looks like they'll be in for a bit of rape").
Also I might have just been high but does sansa's actress seem like a really good actress to anybody else? Just when joffery's about to dip to the battle field, and she's talking to tyrion, there's this awesome awkward eye drop she does around praying for joffery's safe return, after saying she will pray for tyrion (although admitedly a bit out of character, she still mostly hates him at this point I thought?)

hahaha that's incoherent as fuck, feel free to ignore that last paragraph, if you can understand it goodonyou

I wonder what they're going to do with the whole Rhaegar/Elia thing Dany has in the House of the Undying.

Did you see the ending of that episode?
no, didn't even get to the part where pod murders the kingsguard (that still happens right?), got pretty close I imagine, only like 15-20 minutes left in the episode I thought when I stopped

i'm a bit disappointed that they left out the rhaegar/elia scene. i guess it wouldn't make much sense to keep that scene in given that rhaegar was mentioned maybe two or three times in the show... but i wanted to hear him say his "song of ice and fire" line

and agreed, that ending was really good
