General Fighting Game Discussion

I played a lot of BBCT and CS1, but I've barely touched it since CS2 was announced due to MvC3 and other games. Which is slightly sad, because my understanding is that Jin made his way back to high tier in CS2, ha.

As for Skullgirls, I'm not sure how complicated it'll be compared to BB or GG or whatever. My understanding is that it has 6 attack buttons to Blazblue's 4, and with assists involved it might get kind of daunting for new players. The difference-maker will be that Reverge is really working on making Skullgirls' tutorial amazing.

Also: asd;fojaskldgjadsgljasdgj phoenix wrriiigighghght ;_; I can't wait for this nonsense. gonna make him as broken as humanly possible! Still interested in Vergil, though.

Yes, Jin is back on top. Makoto is #1, but from there you have debate on whether Jin or Noel is #2. Noel has been the conventional wisdom due to raw power (they ramped her Drive damage way up, so that a 2D midscreen with 50 meter turns into 6k), but she is so predictable that some argue Jin should be above her. His crossup game is as insane as ever, but now he has his damage back. 5B[1]>5C>2C>3C>ice car does 1884, and 6C>623B>6C>623C>5A>5C>2C>623C in the corner does 4059.

Jin is my sometime-main, along with Tager and Tsubaki, because they are fun to play. The game is so balanced now that any character is a threat to win a major tournament except for Tager, and even he frequently shows up in top 8s.

I played a bit of CT and CS, then Marvel came along. I probably would've continued playing (especially CS2 since Rachel wasn't as bad), then AE came out. <_< I'll try and play Extend, Relius looks awesome.

I'm not too excited about Relius honestly, at least from a gameplay perspective! But I haven't looked too much into his actual mechanics and stuff, so whatever. Just my impression from match footage.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I'm not sure what they're going for with him. He seems to be just another rushdown character with lots of mixups who can zone a little through disjointed hitboxes. What does he add that we don't have already in the form of Litchi, Jin, and Platinum? The puppet gave them a chance to create another really unique character who could add something to the game, but they seem to have ignored that.

The last round of new characters all did something new: Makoto gave us a rushdown character with basically no zoning options, very high risk/high reward (although the reward turned out to be too high). Valkenhayn gave us an extremely mobile character with good damage and the ability to zone through movement, like Taokaka but with less reliance on forcing your opponent to make mistakes. Platinum is so unique that it's like she's from a different game.

Where is that creativity? Maybe once I play Relius, I'll see that he is a valuable addition to the cast, but right now it seems like they just said, "Well, Relius and Kokonoe are the only characters we haven't added yet. Let's do one now and save the other for the DLC. Let's go Relius. We don't want him to be a Carl clone, so what if the puppet just comes out sometimes? Genius! Now let's give him gigantic normals and good damage so players will want to get their hands on him and call it a day."

Arrite, set up a fighting game channel called #fighting 'cause I have no creativity.

Come watch, talk, discuss Seasons Beatings, whatever!

So am I missing something or is the only thing that makes Continuum Shift Extend worth getting Relius Clover?

I've ordered CS2 for PSP (November 4th Release in the UK), and I've been brushing up on my skills in CT Portable in the meantime. I know there are a few changes, but I've gone from a Ragna main into a Jin main, and that's not because of tiers either.
I like Ragna in that he's easy to use - once you know your combo's there's little you need to work on except for bursting at the right moment and keeping the pressure.
What I like about Jin is that he has so many options. At any moment you could poke, zone, freeze, or just beatdown on the opponent, and that's definitely making me a better player.
Not claiming to be great, as I still can't even win in Score Attack.

Outside of this I don't play many other fighting games that competitively, but I always relish an interesting match in MvC.

Really wanted to see Viscant win that, but the next best thing was someone using such a similar team lol. Man that was an awesome tournament in general, I'd talk more but I need sleep now.

I'm pretty sure there are balance changes too.

So my understanding of the gems is that they're, what... DLC or something? So the chances of them being used in tournament is basically zero (not that it was very high to begin with)?

Only like 9 of them are. The other 36 are included in the package. And Capcom claims that they are a core part of the game, so they probably will be used in tournaments.

well holy shit then. that's actually kind of exciting! I wonder if people can resist trying to give them the "ssb items" treatment.
