[OVERVIEW]

Golem competes with Rhydon as a Stealth Rock setter due to the two of them having identical typing and similar Attack and physical bulk. It distinguishes itself from Rhydon with its access to Explosion, allowing it to devastate most of its switch-ins while maintaining offensive momentum. Furthermore, a slightly higher Speed stat allows it to outspeed Sassy Alolan Muk while running an Impish nature. However, Rhydon's better HP and Attack stats let it perform better as a Stealth Rock setter and physical wall throughout a battle. Golem's selling point in Explosion and otherwise worse offensive presence mean that the user often has to sacrifice their Ground-type to leave a significant mark, leaving them more vulnerable to threats like Zapdos, Mega Beedrill, and Mega Aerodactyl and making Golem the less reliable option for this role overall.

[SET]
name: Stealth Rock
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: Explosion
item: No Item
nature: Impish / Adamant

[SET COMMENTS]
Set Information
========

Stealth Rock allows Golem to fulfill its role as an entry hazard setter and support its teammates. Earthquake is a spammable STAB move that threatens Alolan Muk, Rhydon, Melmetal, and Gengar. Rock Slide complements Earthquake by serving as coverage against prominent threats such as Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Beedrill, and Zapdos. Explosion provides immense damage against most targets and generates momentum by allowing you to switch in a check or counter to the foe. An Impish nature increases Golem's overall longevity, while Adamant increases the effectiveness of Explosion and notably allows Golem to reliably OHKO Zapdos and Mega Aerodactyl after Stealth Rock damage with Rock Slide.

Usage Tips
========

Ideally, Golem should be utilized early-game to set up Stealth Rock as soon as possible. It can switch in on foes such as Zapdos and Mega Beedrill to safely get up Stealth Rock, wearing down future pivots. However, Golem should be wary of switching directly into U-turn. After getting up Stealth Rock, Golem can be preserved as a check to the aforementioned Zapdos and Mega Beedrill. Golem can lure in opposing Water-types such as Poliwrath and Starmie and can utilize Explosion or Toxic to weaken them for the remainder of the battle.

Team Options
========

Water-types such as Poliwrath and Starmie threaten Golem; checks to them such as Zapdos and Mega Venusaur are appreciated, allowing Golem to safely get up Stealth Rock. Offensive threats such as Mega Beedrill, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Gyarados, and Starmie appreciate Golem's ability to wear down and check Zapdos. Burn spreaders such as Mew, Eevee-S, and Gengar impair opposing threats such as Melmetal and Poliwrath, allowing Golem to potentially avoid a KO. Mew is a notable partner, threatening Mega Venusaur with Psychic and crippling Starmie with Will-O-Wisp while stopping recovery with Taunt. Snorlax can complement Golem by serving as a special wall and status absorber, empowering its own Facade. Melmetal possesses great synergy with Golem, checking Mega Beedrill and Mega Aerodactyl, allowing Golem to utilize Explosion without compromising the team's defensive backbone.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Thunder Punch and Fire Punch provide coverage against Water- and Grass-types, respectively. However, Golem cannot take full advantage of both moves due to its low Speed, making them fairly unreliable when compared to Explosion. Toxic can be utilized to cripple switch-ins to Golem such as Mew, Poliwrath, and Starmie.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Water-types**: Water-types such as Mega Gyarados, Poliwrath, and Starmie outspeed Golem and pressure it immensely with their STAB moves. Starmie is a notable counter, exploiting Golem's poor special bulk with Scald and shrugging off Earthquake damage with Recover. However, all three of them should be wary of directly switching into an Explosion or Toxic.

**Grass-types**: Grass-types such as Mega Venusaur and Alolan Exeggutor take minimal damage from Golem and can KO it with Mega Drain. The former is also immune to Toxic, making it harder to bypass.

**Status**: Will-O-Wisp from Gengar and Mew weaken Golem's offensive capabilities, while Toxic from Pokemon such as Zapdos and Nidoking puts it on a timer, limiting its ability to switch in and check these threats.

**Mew**: Mew outspeeds Golem and can OHKO it with Scald. Furthermore, it can limit Golem's offensive and Stealth Rock setting capabilities with other options such as Will-O-Wisp and Taunt.

My thoughts in bold.

Discount Rhydon
[OVERVIEW]

Golem's solid typing, strong Attack stat, and physical bulk allow it have a decent niche as a Stealth Rock setter. Furthermore, it distinguishes itself from other Stealth Rock setters such as Rhydon and Sandslash due to its access to Explosion, allowing it to devastate most of its switch-ins while maintaining offensive momentum. However, its middling special bulk and Speed leaves it vulnerable to prominent threats such as Mega Alakazam, Starmie, and Mega Venusaur. Also, it is outclassed by Rhydon which possesses a better HP and Attack stat, letting it fulfill a better role as a Stealth Rock setter.

I'd cut the first sentence out of the introduction, or at least re-word it to mention how Rhydon has the exact same characteristics. You can swap Golem out for Rhydon and it'd have the same meaning, except it's widely agreed upon that Rhydon is the more consistent option of the two Rock/Ground-types. I wouldn't even mention Sandslash as a comparison since despite being a Ground-type, they're radically different when it comes to being a defensive Ground-type. Instead, concentrate on comparing Golem to Rhydon as you should try to convince the reader why you should use this Pokemon over its contemporary.

Alongside its access to Explosion, a crucial trait Golem has over Rhydon is its slightly-greater Speed which allows it to outrun Sassy Alolan Muk while running a neutral nature, while Rhydon needs a Jolly nature to do the same thing which can cut into its defensive bulk. I'd mention this in the introduction.

[SET]

move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: Explosion / Toxic

[SET COMMENTS]
Set Information
========
  • Stealth Rock allows Golem to fulfill its role as a Stealth Rock setter
  • Earthquake and Rock Slide provide good neutral coverage against prominent threats such as Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Beedrill, and Zapdos. I'd list what Earthquake hits, as well, including Alolan Muk, Rhydon, Melmetal, and Gengar just to name a few examples.
  • Explosion provides immense damage against most targets and generates momentum by allowing a switch into a check or counter
  • Alternatively, Toxic can be utilized to cripple switch-ins to Golem such as Mew, Poliwrath, and Starmie. I'd move Toxic into OO. Giving up Explosion turns Golem into a worse Rhydon as it's the main reason to use it over the latter.
Usage Tips
========
  • Ideally, Golem should be utilized early game to set up Stealth Rock as soon as possible
  • It can switch in on foes such as Zapdos and Mega Beedrill and safely get up Stealth Rock, wearing down future pivots. Keep in mind that these two can simply U-turn out as Golem switches in, going into a check that can defeat Golem very easily.
  • After getting up Stealth Rock, Golem can be preserved as a check to the aforementioned Zapdos and Mega Beedrill
  • Golem can lure in opposing Water-types such as Poliwrath and Starmie and can utilize Explosion or Toxic to debilitate them for the remainder of the battle
Team Options
========
  • Checks to Water-types such as Zapdos and Mega Venusaur are appreciated, allowing Golem to efficiently get up Stealth Rock
  • Offensive threats such as Mega Beedrill, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Gyarados, and Starmie appreciate Golem's ability to wear down and check Zapdos
  • Burn diffusers spreaders such as Mew, Eevee-S, and Gengar impair opposing threats such as Melmetal and Poliwrath, allowing Golem to potentially survive a KO.
  • In particular, Mew is a notable partner, also providing a crucial check to Mega Venusaur and Starmie. Be more specific here. What does Mew do to these Pokemon?
I'd also mention Snorlax as a check. Special wall that can also act as a status-absorber thanks to Facade.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Golem can opt for an Adamant nature, bolstering its offensive prowess. However, the loss of defensive capabilities limit its ability to check physical attackers such as Mega Beedrill, Snorlax, and Dragonite.
  • Thunder Punch and Fire Punch provides coverage against Water- and Grass-types, respectively. However, Golem cannot take full advtange of both moves due to its low Speed, making them fairly unreliable when compared to Explosion or Toxic.

Checks and Counters

**Status**: Will-O-Wisp from Gengar and Mew weaken Golem's offensive capabilities while Toxic from Pokemon such as Zapdos and Nidoking puts it on a timer, limiting its ability to switch in and check these threats.

I'd give Mew its own section. It has plenty of options to deal with Golem. Scald can OHKO it, the aforementioned Will-o-Wisp can cripple it, and Taunt can prevent Stealth Rock from going up.

I'm good with the things Eve and Vengeance have added, but I'd like to add a line about Golem outspeeding Sassy Alolan Muk (the kind that runs Mega Drain) to the intro, as it is the primary edge that Golem has over Rhydon - it doesn't have to run Jolly to do that.

Otherwise, QC 3/3!
