Pokémon Goodra [REVAMP]

I'd say Goodra's best set would probably be a modest/calm special tank set holding leftovers with 140ish Sp. Atk EVs, around 152 Sp. Def EVs, leaving about 216 HP EVs, running dragon pulse and fire blast for decent offenses, along with rest for durability and toxic for eating away at your opponents. I'd definitely say Gooey is his best ability, as along with sticky web, you could just slow your opponents down to a crawl.
Sap Sipper has its merits (mostly making Ferrothorn and Amoonguss/Breloom cry), but Gooey is still amazing (and quite trolly XD). Toxic isn't that good for Goodra, but infestation works wonders since it also traps and you can always have a teammate pop in and set up.

Gooey is mostly meant as a deterrent. Any strong physical attack not resisted will be enough to either OHKO or 2HKO

Sap Sipper is best for a safe switch in, but you lose the protection against physical sweepers and revenge killers once they know you don't have gooey.

Hydration doesn't work without perma rain and should really never be run.

Also I've been choosing an AV set over leftovers because it lets it run its special wall/killer set much better and leftovers still won't supply good enough recover

I still think it's too early to say what the "best" Goodra is. It just has so many options it's ridiculous. It can be a special wall that traps, a Powerful Spc Attacker, and even a physical attacker. It's 3 abilities also are all good. Gooey for the speed lowering to mess up many pokemon, Hydration for Rain teams and Instant rests, and Sap sipper to negate the powder users and give it another immunity and attack boost.

I can see many different Goodra's running around, and one will need to be on their toes whenever a Goodra shows up.

Goodraitis
Relaxed gooey or hydration(rain teams)
Assault vest
252 def, 252 hp
Thunder bolt/thunder (rain)
Earthquake
Ice beam
Fire blast
A great lead and check to many pokemon.

I'm using a set like this with Politoed, obviusly:

Cursed Goo:
Leftovers
Hydration
Relaxed, 252 Hp/ 252 Def/ 4 SpD

-Curse
-Rest
-Dragon Tail
-Aqua Tail

Since opponents are normally waiting to face a specially defensive Goodra, they use their physical sweepers, but oh, surprise, dragon tailed. Aqua Tail is the strongest option you have against steel types in rain, and it's surprisingly good against the fairies on metagame, except Azumarill.

What ability and ev spread is best with AV goodra, atm? I've been seeing a number of different spreads and abilities in tandem with the av set.

I'm personally fond of the Physically Defensive variety.

Assault Vest with Goodra's naturally ridiculous Sp.Def is enough to ward off any attempts to hit it on that side, while Bold nature plus 252 Defense and HP EVs and Gooey as the ability really discourage hitting it physically as well; it's almost a lose-lose situation for the opponent.

Here is a decent set. Goodra@ damp rock hydration +special def. -speed 252 spd 252 spa 4 def thunder, rain dance, rest, and dragon tail. Hoo boy this thing is awesome. I have used it in many places and this set sponges nearly everything.

So would this be the right set?

Goodra@AV
Sassy, 252 HP/252Def/4SpA
-Dragon Pulse
-Fire Blast
-Dragon Tail
-Thunder Bolt

Or would relaxed be better to power up d-tail?

Whenever I see a hydration set, I just pull in my Weaknite and either take the thunders for minuscule damage or get a boost from dragon tail (or dragon pulse on other sets). Other counters include just about any fast dragon, rain sweepers, Ttar, and physical revenge killers, which are all reasonably common.

Just thought over it: if goodra was to invest in defense and hp, how would it hit anything back with its much lower uninvested SpAtk? It could block, but, theoretically, it doesn't have the same power to actually kill anything it blocks.

If by lose-lose you mean setup fodder. If it were to run something like this it is entirely reliant on a very weak Dragon Tail, and a phazer without reliable recovery is not a good phazer at all.

Obviously you haven't checked it's stats. It is VERY good, don't underestimate it's offenses. Both can be used to wreck the opponent, and it does great with landing SE hits

Guys, Acid armor would be MUCH BETTER than Curse! :) Now, he can be a physical defensive! :)
How does he get acid armor? The only way I've heard is breeding it onto a shellos from a muk, then to a skrelp, THEN to a goomy. IMO that is too much work

Muk -> Shellos -> Skrelp -> Goomy?

As good as that sounds, purely defensive boosting moves have never been popular, and for good reason. While it does make you a nice wall, you're still a wall that has to set up before it can really wall. Ideally, a wall should be able to switch into things and wall them rather than needing a turn to set up. To Goodra's credit though, it does have fantastic special bulk to get easy switch ins. But even then, all it takes is a Toxic/Critical Hit/Whirlwind to send Goodra off the field and get rid of all those boosts you spent turns setting up. And wasting turns is NEVER a good thing.

Protect
Double team
Dragon paulse
BodySlame
with assualt vest anyone?
Main problem is double team is banned just about everywhere. AV prevents it and protect anyway (I thought we had established that). Besides that, most assault vest sets rely on infestation to prevent switches to physical attackers

What about Life orb? Also, I'm not talking about it for Meta, just wifi
I'm hardly the expert on Wifi battles, but I'm pretty sure there are better users of the assault vest, life orb, and double team out there, so I don't think that's your best option.

If you're going for an impossible to beat special wall, I'd stick with Minimize Blissey. Though bear in mind, you won't make any friends with that set

Toxic
Acid armor
Rest
Dragon Pulse/Fire blast

Toxic bacause to cripple Fairy types, acid armor to become unbreakable (expect whirlind, roar!), rest to heal with chesto berry or leftovers and dragon pulse to attack! :) 252 HP/252 SpDef and 2 Def with this can be an annoying staller! Partner could be fairy (like sylveon, or mawile/granbull, and steel pokémons like ferrothorn!)

Completely walled by Mawile and Klefki (or Heatran for Fire Blast), both of which can set up on Goodra and give the rest of your team trouble. I know it sounds impenetrable in theory, but think about what that thing actually does and what it can and can't beat.
