Thank you, thank you! Welcome to "Got Talent?" a unique metagame where the (contest) conditions of moves now determine the stat a move uses for damage calculation. What this means is each condition happens to correlate with a stat, allowing for some crazy, fresh new strategies that can win over or surprise the opponent!
Mechanic: Moves are now separated into their contest conditions. Each move now uses the stat correlating with its contest condition for damage calculation.

Strategy:
There are 5 contest conditions (Cool, Tough, Beautiful, Clever, and Cute) and every move happens to be classified into these 5 groups. Each condition also happens to correlate with a specific stat (minus HP), meaning Cool = Attack, Tough = Defense, Beautiful = Special Attack, Clever = Special Defense, and Cute = Speed.
Q&A:
Q: How does damage calculation work?
A: Scald, a Tough move, coming from Slowbro now uses its invested base 110 Defense stat, rather than its uninvested base 100 Special Attack stat for damage calculation.
Q: Are status moves affected by this new mechanic?
A: No as they don't cause any damage to the opponent in the "attacking" sense lol.
Q: What about setup moves?
A: Setup moves will work as normal; however, setup moves such as Iron Defense and Amnesia will boost Tough and Clever moves respectively, allowing for a plethora of new setup options, giving even more creativity.
Q: Does the Physical/Special split stay intact?
A: Yes. Even if a special move uses the Pokemon's Attack stat (Dark Pulse or Vacuum Wave for example), it will still hit the opponent's Pokemon on its Special Defense stat.
Q: How does Foul Play work with it being a Clever move?
A: The mechanic doesn't change as the description of the move itself is "The user turns the target's power against it. The higher the target's Attack stat, the greater the move's power."
Q: How does Unaware work? Does it still block the offensive boosts from the new boosting moves?
A: Unfortunately, no. Unaware only ignores the boosts to Cool or Beautiful moves while only ignoring the defensive boosts to a Pokemon's Defense or Special Defense, meaning that the most common boosters can power through Unaware Pokemon.
