Ground Arceus (Analysis)

Okay...

-Calm Mind- Primary EV spread should be 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe, Timid Nature. CM Ground Arceus's main niche is countering Zekrom so you want to make sure you have the bulk to handle its hits, especially Choice Band Outrages. The lack of SpA EVS isn't as important since the bulk will assist you in getting more Calm Minds to make up for it.

-Swords Dance- Change the EV Spread to 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe, and make Jolly the primary nature. Jolly helps Speed tie with other Arceus which is indeed game deciding, and being able to always outspeed Lugia and Terrakion (they're not all Scarfed!) are big pluses. I don't think you lose any significant KOes by using Jolly either. Speed is a big advantage Arceus has over SD Garchomp so you'll want to capitalize on that. Adamant should still be slashed in, however.

-Support- Change Nature to Jolly (I think this was an oversight on your part) and mention Stealth Rock in the additional comments. Its generally inferior to Will-O-Wisp, but if you can't fit it elsewhere, Arceus is certainly capable of setting it up.

You should also mention that lack of Drought + being able to counter Zekrom and eat Electric-type attacks like nothing make Ground Arceus a decent pick for Rain teams.

Looks good otherwise.

Fix all those errors I posted earlier and what Fireburn mentioned.

Make Jolly as the main Nature for the Support set because Groudon can never achieve that. Jolly helps vs CB Garchomp and Terakion who sometimes show up in Ubers actually.
You can put Impish in AC I think because going all out defensive isn't the best way for Ground Arceus who should abuse the major Speed advantage it has over Groudon.

Fireburn, ps: SD Garchomp is extremely rare, so Arceus isn't competing with that! Arceus is also bulkier and doesn't die to random Ice Beams. On the support set you should go Jolly and burn Garchomp before it hits you with a +2 Outrage which will 2HKO the Impish spread.

Other than those:

[Overview]

Arceus is now one of the most potent threats in this new generation. Though there have has been an influx of new powerful Dragon-types into the Uber tier, none can challenge the might of the divine Arceus. With its excellent base 120 Attack,120 Special Attack, and 120 Speed, Arceus makes a deadly setup sweeper, having the ability to tear gaping holes in teams unprepared for the Alpha Pokemon. Defensively, Arceus is no slouch either, possessing base 120/120/120 defenses. When attached with a an Earth Plate, Arceus gains the Ground typing and a coveted resistance to Stealth Rock, as well as a useful resistance to Electric-type moves. Ground Arceus also packs a useful resistance to Electric type Attacks. This makes Ground Arceus a premier counter to Zekrom, which a dangerous physical sweeper introduced in this generation. It Arceus has more overall bulk than Groudon, who is consider to be the epitome of walling in the Uber tier; and also Arceus also outclasses Groudon in that it has a reliable recovery move in the form of Recover. Ground is a an excellent neutral STAB, and Arceus possesses two nifty 100 Base Power Ground-type moves up its sleeve, namely Judgment and Earthquake; this allows Arceus to run a physical as well as a special set, providing Arceus with a versatility that makes it utterly deadly. This versatality makes Ground Arceus really deadly . However, Arceus is not without its flaws. Ground Arceus possesses debilitating weaknesses to Water, Ice, and Grass, which really hinders Arceus's effectiveness when you consider the popularity of Kyogre. Types. With Kyogre around every corner this really hinders Arceus' effectiveness. Nevertheless, one must never underestimate the prowess of Ground Arceus, as it is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

move 2: Judgment
move 3: Recover
move 4: Ice Beam
item: Earth Plate
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

With its great natural bulk and access to Recover, Arceus can function as an excellent Calm Mind sweeper. After 2 Calm Minds, Arceus reaches an excellent 554 Special Attack and a 552 Special Defense Arceus's Special Attack reaches an impressive 554 whiles its Special Defense sit at an excellent 552. However Arceus will almost always be able to set up over 2 Calm Minds thanks to Arceus' its bulk and access to recovery great overall bulk and access to Recover. Once Arceus has properly set up, it can proceed to wreak havoc on the opponent's team. Judgment is the main STAB move of choice, and its Ground typing possesses has great neutral coverage. The coverage is well-rounded off of by Ice Beam, and with these two moves Arceus hits most of the Uber tier super effectively; notable mentions being include Reshiram, Zekrom, Giratina, Shaymin, Groudon, Lugia, Rayquaza, and Garchomp. Bronzong is the only semi-common Pokemon that resists Ground Arceus's Ground / Ice combo. After Arceus has set up it is almost impossible to switch into and the only way to take it down is by a super-effective move or pray for a Critical Hit to happen. A fully set-upped Arceus is almost impossible to switch into, and the only way to take it down is through either super effective attacks or praying for a critical hit. Access to Recover increases Arceus's longetivity longevity and effectively two folds doubles its bulk, allowing it to set up more Calm Minds. Maximum investment in HP allows Arceus to take hits better and significantly increases it its already great bulk. Maximum investment in Speed allows Arceus to outmost outpace most of the Uber tier and tie with opposing Arceus, which can be the deciding factor in a game.

[Additional Comments]

Ground Arceus is the best counter to Choice Zekrom thanks to its Ground typing. Arceus can just stroll in on a predicted Lightning Bolt Strike and set up as Zekrom flees. Neither can Zekrom cannot hope to stay in on a Arceus since it is outsped and OHKOed by a STAB super effective Earthquake Judgment. If Zekrom gets cocky and decides to stay in it is swiftly killed by a STAB'ed super effective Judgment.

Arceus can run a more offensive EV spread of 132 HP / 252 SpA / 124 Spe. The Speed EVs allow Arceus to outspeed plus positive natured base 90 Speed Pokemon like Zekrom and Reshiram. Maximum investment in Special Attack allows Arceus to do more damage after setting up fewer Calm Minds. However While this spread set trades off bulk for power, it should be kept in mind that more investment in HP allows Arceus to set up easier and get off more Calm Minds, thus increasing the chances of a sweep.

The biggest counter of to this set is Choice Scarf Kyogre. It can easily revenge Arceus thanks to its huge great Speed and OHKO it with a rain-boosted STAB Water Spout. Physical SD ExtremeKiller Arceus can also 2HKO with ExtremeSpeed after notching up a Swords Dance boost. Other variants of Arceus packing moves which hit Ground Arceus super effectively can somewhat check Ground Arceus. However, Electric Arceus and other types of Arceus who are hit super effectively by the Ground / Ice combination need to be wary of switching into the wrong move and being becoming maimed for the rest of the match. Shaymin-S is also a good counter; Shaymin-S holding Life Orb variants can switch into a Judgment and can OHKO Ground Arceus with a speedy super effective Seed Flare. If Shaymin-S packs Leaf Storm it is capable of OHKOing Arceus even if it lacks a boosting item, provided that Arceus has been unable yet to bag a Calm Mind boost. Choice Specs variants of Shaymin-S OHKO regardless Arceus even if Arceus is at +1 SpD.

Palkia and Ferrothorn are both good partners to Ground Arceus. Both resist Water while Ferrothorn even has the added benifit benefit of resisting Grass. Palkia can switch into a full HP Specs Water Spout from Kyogre thanks to its 4x Water resist. Ferrothorn can take a Seed Flare from Shaymin-S with ease and KO with Gyro Ball or paralyze it. Once paralyzed Shaymin-S is no longer a threat to Ground Arceus.

Pokemon with sky-high HP and Special Defense are all good counters to Ground Arceus. Blissey, Chansey, Ho-Oh, and Grass Arceus all come to mind immediately. Arceus would be hard pressed to 2HKO the the former two without a critical hit. Blissey and or Chansey can then Toxic Arceus and then heal up as the poison slowly whittles down Arceus's health. Ho-Oh laughs luaghs at any of Arceus's moves while it and can 2HKO Arceus with the sun up. Grass Arceus is resistant to Ground Arceus's STAB and Ice Beam will not take it down easily; it can then proceed to set up Calm Minds, heal up off the damage with Recover, and OHKO Ground Arceus with a STAB Grass Knot.

[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Recover
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Stone Edge
item: Earth Plate
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Ground Arceus can run a physical set with as much grace and ease as a special set. Recover allows Arceus to use its great bulk while Swords Dance enables Arceus to boost its already great Attack Attck stat to astronomical levels. Access to reliable recovery is something Groudon would die for and is a major reason to consider Ground Arceus over Groudon. After a single Swords Dance, Arceus reaches a mammoth 744 Attack; this, combined with and the awesome coverage provided by the moves its Ground / Rock combo, makes it very hard to switch into a boosted Arceus after a Swords Dance. Most of the Uber tier is OHKOed or 2HKOed by QuakeEdge. After a single Swords Dance, Standard Rock Polish Groudon with 112 HP / 4 Def takes 81.6% - 96.2% from an Earthquake with an Adamant nature Adamant Arceus's Earthquake, proving just how powerful the Alpha Pokemon really is. Ground Arceus has very good coverage thanks to the excellent combination of Stone Edge and Earthquake. The only Pokemon who resist the EdgeQuake this combo are Bronzong and Virizion, both of which whom are rarely seen in Ubers. Arceus's great natural bulk and 120/120/120 defenses ensure that it will almost always be able to notch up a Swords Dance. Maximum investment in Speed makes sure that Arceus outspeeds most of the Uber tier and ties with other plus positive natured Arceus.

[Additional Comments]

Once again, Physical SD Swords Dance Ground Arceus is a premier Zekrom counter. It can switch into a Lightning Bolt Strike and then proceed to set up. Also Arceus also outspeeds Zekrom and can OHKO with a STAB +2 Earthquake if Zekrom decides to stay in.

Physical SD Swords Dance Ground Arceus sets prefers Stealth Rock and Spikes to be set up support as it helps Arceus convert important 3HKOs into 2HKOs and 2HKOs into OHKOs. Pokemon like Deoxys, Forretress, Groudon, Ferrothorn, and Skarmory are able to set up entry hazards reliably and all make good partners for Ground Arceus.

A Jolly nature can be used with an EV spread of 144 HP / 252 Atk / 114 Spe. This allows Arceus to outspeed Jolly non-Scarfed Garchomp and do 108.1% - 127.4% to 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Garchomp, a sure OHKO. ExtremeSpeed can be run on the set in place of Recover. A +2 ExtremeSpeed does a maximum of 61% damage to 4 HP / 0 Def Kyogre; at that health Kyogre cannot OHKO Arceus with a Water Spout and risks being killed by another ExtremeSpeed. However, without a Swords Dance, Arceus is a sitting duck for Kyogre; and Also if Kyogre uses Surf instead of Water Spout, the Alpha Pokemon will be easily OHKOed regardless. However lack of Recover is not liked as Arceus covets the extra bulkiness that Recover gives it. It is also a major niche Arceus has over Groudon. Forsaking Recover is not recommended though, as Arceus enjoys the extra longevity that Recover grants it; it is also a major advantage that Arceus has over Groudon.

Giratina-A is an excellent counter to Physical Swords Dance Ground Arceus. It is immune to ExtremeSpeed and can inflict Arceus with a burn and to render it useless for the rest of the game. Giratina-O is also a good counter, being immune to Earthquake thanks to its Levitate ability; however, but it takes takes a hefty 51.2% - 60.3% from Stone Edge, which is a 2HKO. Like most other physical attackers, Physical SD Swords Dance Ground Arceus is walled by Skarmory. The physically defensive variant is never 2HKOed by +2 Stone Edge and Skarmory can simply Toxic Arceus. If Arceus gets greedy and tries to get more Calm Minds boosts, Skarmory can just Whirlwind it out. Bronzong, though rare, is one of the few Pokemon resistant to the QuakeEdge combo. It can Toxic Arceus or whittle down its HP with by Grass Knot. Shaymin-S is not OHKOed by +2 ExtremeSpeed and OHKOes in return with Seed Flare. Grass Arceus can take Earthquakes and Stone Edges with ease thanks to its bulk and set of useful resistances. A Grass Knot form from Grass Arceus will make manure out of Ground Arceus.

[SET]
name: Supporter
move 1: Recover
move 2: Will-O-Wisp
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Stone Edge
item: Earth Plate
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 160 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Ground Arceus's fantastic natural bulk and access to reliable recovery in the form of Recover allows Arceus it to pull of off a pure Support Supporter set. This set aims to utilize Arceus's 120/120/120 defenses to provide essential team support. Arceus's huge support movepool and The near-perfect coverage provided by Earthquake and Stone Edge make sure that nothing can bring Arceus to a grinding halt. Will-O-Wisp is the bread and butter of this set and cripples any physical attacker, like Groudon, Scizor, Rayquaza, Garchomp, and most notably Extremekiller Arceus , turning Arceus from a sweeping machine to a very sturdy tank. Recover allows Arceus more longetivity longevity and effectively twofolds doubles its great bulk and makes tanking even easier. Maximum investment in HP makes sure that Arceus can take tank hits very well.

[Additional Comments]

If the need be Arceus is also capable of setting up Stealth Rock if necessary. However it should be kept in mind that Will-O-Wisp is generally the better option as it allows Arceus to maim physical attackers and take physical hits better. Substitute is also an option if Arceus is worried about status, it also allows Arceus to scout for counters. getting Statused. Substitute further allows Arceus to scout for its counters.

This set functions similar to Giratina-A.However Ground Arceus has its perks over Giratina-A. Though this set functions similar to Giratina, Ground Arceus has many perks over the ghostly dragon. Arceus also lacks a Dragon and a Dark type weakness Dragon and Dark weaknesses which is a huge boon in Ubers. Ground Arceus Ground can also switch into Zekrom with impunity, which is something Giratina could never hope to achieve and something Giratia-A cannot boast about. The Speed EVs allow Arceus to outspeed max Speed Jolly Terrakion and burn it; all the base 90 Speed Pokemon, including max Speed Jolly Zekrom are also outsped. Ground Arceus can also OHKO Specs Reshiram before Reshiram can kill it with Blue Flame. Basically, Arceus's stellar Speed and access to a reliable recovery is something for which dedicated walls like Groudon and Giratina would die for. It must be noted though that Groudon gives this set stiff competion competition with its slightly better physical bulk, infinite sunlight, and access to Dragon Tail for PHazing phazing.

This set is also countered by Grass Arceus, Arceus-Grass especially if it has Substitute. Arceus-Grass Grass Arceus is resistant to Earthquake and can set up in Ground Arceus's face and KO it with a STAB super effective Grass-type Judgment. Like the other Arceus sets, this set is also plagued by Kyogre, especially ScarfOgre Scarf variants.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

If Gravity support can be provided, Arceus can run a mono-attacking Swords Dance set with Earthquake, Recover, and Substitute thanks to Earthquake's great neutral coverage. In Under Gravity Earthquake is only resisted by Grass-types and this allows Arceus to become a powerful mono-attacker tear through the opponent's team with a powerful neutral attack.

[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]

Most variants of Kyogre are a threat to Ground Arceus. The most dangerous being the Choice Scarf variant of all Kyogre variants is ScarfOgre since it can outspeed Arceus and revenge it. However it must be wary of locking itself into Water Spout as it is 2HKOed by ExtremeSpeed, and after a +2 ExtremeSpeed from Ground Arceus, Water Spout is incapable of OHKO'ing it OHKOing Arceus back.

Physical SD Swords Dance Arceus can be also by countered by burning it. Once inflicted with a burn, Arceus becomes a dead weight for the rest of the match. Pokemon like Giratina and Mewtwo can all burn Arceus. Additionally, Darkrai can outspeed it Arceus and put it to sleep using Dark Void. Shaymin-S, Grass Arceus, Skarmory, Giratina-O, and Bronzong are all good counters to SD Swords Dance Ground Arceus. Bronzong however needs to carry Toxic to counter be able to effectively damage Arceus. Skarmory and Bronzong must also be careful of Gravity since it makes them vulnerable to Ground Arceus's STAB Earthquake. Pokemon like Blissey, Chansey, and Ho-Oh are all good counters to the Calm Mind set.

[Dream World]

Arceus does not get a Dream World ability unlike most other pokemon.

no dream world ability = no dream world section

way too many formating and spacing issues, the space bar is a formidable tool, use it well

be careful about spelling and abbreviations too

hopefully the mistakes you've made here won't be repeated in future analyses

For SD Ground Arceus, I would honestly consider a bulkier spread, due to its typing, Recover, along with the fact that it just makes it easier to SD. I would also make SD the primary set.

Move the SD set as the primary set like what Jibaku said :P Many Arceus formes can use Calm Mind but Ground Arceus really shines as a Swords Dancer because few things can stop it's rampage. It may not need Extremespeed, but STAB Earthquake and Stone Edge forms are nearly unresisted combo, save Bronzong. (Claydol sucks)

Jibaku wants a bulkier set so change the EV spread to 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe ( Iunno if Jibaku wants a better EV spread but I don't know, wait for him to post an effective EV spread)

The weaker initial power isn't so painful when Arceus can set easily with that bulk and Speed. The extra HP helps Arceus somewhat stall out Rock Polish Groudon and totally walls Zekrom. CB Outrage 2HKOes but you are faster and can nail it with Earthquake first.

doo doo doo doo
doo doo doo doo

Swords Dance Arceus is one of those Pokemon who can run multiple EV spreads quite well. The EV spread listed allows Ground Arceus to do more damage with only one Swords Dance and makes it an immediate threat; however, it lacks the bulk for which Arceus is renowned. This can be remedied by a running an EV spread of 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe. The initial lack in power lack of immediate power is not so bad when we consider the fact that the extra bulk allows Arceus to set up more easily. Also a Jolly nature can be used with an EV spread of 144 HP / 252 Atk / 114 Spe. This allows Arceus to outspeed Jolly non-Scarfed Garchomp and do 108.1% - 127.4% to 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Garchomp, a sure OHKO. ExtremeSpeed can be run on the set in place of Recover. Forsaking Recover is not recommended though, as Arceus enjoys the extra longevity that Recover grants it; it is also a major advantage that Arceus has over Groudon.

Ok implemented fatecrashers's check and added an extra bit on alternate EV spreads as discussed with Theorymon, Jibaku and Trickroom on IRC. This is ready for its next GP check.

I'm not so certain. Not every change in Fate's check was implemented - some changes which I think are personally necessary. While it is true that the author in the end decides what does or doesn't go into the analysis, 99% of the time, the GP Team knows better and are correct, so it's better to implement every change suggested and let another GP Checker correct the correction than to leave an error lying around since it makes you look lazy.

On top of this, there are still errors in the analysis in general, such as a lack of space bar between commas, semicolons and other punctuation; you've missed some key grammar; there's some odd, not-quite-correct sentences in there, and finally the analysis seems a bit rattly - the sentences don't flow.

In any case, I was about to check this, but there are still a few problems littered around the analysis that were caught in the first check, so I feel that some of my effort would be wasted by pointing out these errors again. I'll check this later once the obvious corrections have been made.

I'm sorry if I gave that impression but I thought I changed everything ! Ok I going to change it again........But I didnt ignore it purpose.

[SET COMMENTS]

Ground Arceus's fantastic natural bulk and access to reliable recovery in the form of Recover allows it to pull off a pure Supporter set. This set aims to utilize Arceus's 120/120/120 defenses to provide essential team support. Arceus's huge support movepool and near-perfect coverage provided by Earthquake and Stone Edge make sure that nothing can bring Arceus to a grinding halt. Will-O-Wisp is the bread and butter of this set and cripples any physical attacker, like Groudon, Scizor, Rayquaza, Garchomp, and most notably Extremekiller Arceus. Recover allows Arceus more longevity and effectively doubles its great bulk and makes tanking even easier. Maximum investment in HP makes sure Arceus can tank hits very well.

[Additional Comments]

Arceus is also capable of setting up Stealth Rock if necessary. However it should be kept in mind that Will-O-Wisp is generally the better option as it allows Arceus to maim physical attackers and take physical hits better. Substitute is also an option if Arceus is worried about status; it also allows Arceus to scout for counters.

Though this set functions similar to Giratina, Ground Arceus has many perks over the ghostly dragon. Arceus lacks Dragon- and Dark-type weaknesses, which is a huge boon in Ubers. Ground Arceus Ground can also switch into Zekrom with impunity, which is something Giratina could never hope to achieve. The Speed EVs allow Arceus to outspeed max Speed Jolly Terrakion and burn it; all base 90 Speed Pokemon including max Speed Jolly Zekrom are also outsped. Ground Arceus can also OHKO Specs Reshiram before Reshiram can kill it with Blue Flame. Basically, Arceus's stellar Speed and access to reliable recovery is something which dedicated walls like Groudon and Giratina-A would die for. It must be noted though that Groudon gives this set stiff competition with its slightly better physical bulk, infinite sunlight, and Dragon Tail for phazing.

This set is also countered by Grass Arceus, especially if it has Substitute. Grass Arceus is resistant to Earthquake and can set up in Ground Arceus's face and KO it with a STAB super effective Grass-type Judgement. Like the other Arceus sets, this set is also plagued by Kyogre, especially Scarf variants.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

If Gravity support can be provided, Arceus can run a mono-attacking Swords Dance set with Earthquake, Recover, and Substitute thanks to Earthquake's great neutral coverage. Under Gravity Earthquake is only resisted by Grass-types and this allows Arceus to tear through the opponent's team with a powerful neutral attack.

[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]

Most variants of Kyogre are a threat to Ground Arceus. The most dangerous being the Choice Scarf variant since it can outspeed Arceus and revenge kill it. However, it must be wary of locking itself into Water Spout as it is 2HKOed by ExtremeSpeed and after a +2 ExtremeSpeed, from Ground Arceus, Water Spout is incapable of OHKOing Arceus back.

Swords Dance Arceus can be countered by burning it. Once inflicted with a burn, Arceus becomes a dead weight for the rest of the match. Pokemon like Giratina and Mewtwo can all burn Arceus. Additionally, Darkrai can outspeed Arceus and put it to sleep using Dark Void. Shaymin-S, Grass Arceus, Skarmory, Giratina-O, and Bronzong are all good counters to Swords Dance Ground Arceus. Bronzong however needs to carry Toxic to be able to effectively damage Arceus. Skarmory and Bronzong must also be careful of Gravity since it makes them vulnerable to Ground Arceus's STAB Earthquake. Pokemon like Blissey, Chansey, and Ho-Oh are all good counters to the Calm Mind set.

even with my check I still feel there one or two errors, but that's probably because of odd sentence structures that I can't really fix without rewriting large sections of anything.
I guess I'll call this done, since it breaks the condition of "good enough", but I think you can improve in your English skills.

Gravity deserves a slash over Stone Edge on the Swords Dance set, in my opinion. Arceus has plenty of bulk and opportunities to set it up, and with a few Swords Dances and Gravity in effect, Arceus has a powerful STAB that's only resisted by Grass types. Not only this, but it also gives great team support, making almost everything be hit by Spikes of either variety, boosting the accuracy of moves like Dark Void, Will o Wisp and Thunder outside of rain. I know you've mentioned it in OC, but seeing as Arceus can run it itself and your fourth move in that case was Substitute of all things, I think it deserves more than that. It's been lethal when I've been testing it.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say it deserves a slash over Stone Edge in the Support set. Unless your team is full of flying types and levitators I'm sure you'd want the accuracy buff that Gravity brings, not to mention reliability with Arceus' STAB.

No. Ground Arceus really does not need Gravity. Its excellent if others can set it up for him but it certainly does not need to run it itself. Firstly, EQ+SE give it near perfect coverage. By ditching SE, you get coverage over Flying types and Levitators but lose coverage over Grass types. Also most of the time Ground Arceus wont be able to set up Gravity AND Swords Dance, so its one or the other. Therefore no Gravity will not get a Slash. Also not sure of this the but Substitute isnt even on the set. -_-. The moves are Recover, SD, EQ and SE. and all of them are too useful for Ground Arceus to part for in place of Gravity. Also SD Arceus likes continuous coverage, which Gravity does not provide. But basically NO ONE (I'm talking skilled players here) will allow you to set up Gravity AND SD.

AF APPROVED 2/3

Shift Adamant to AC in the Swords Dance set. You want Jolly to outspeed more threats and Speed tie with other Arceus formes.
