Hail Team 2.0

thank you for all your input, ive changed around my team a little since last night. heres my revamped team so far:

(note i dont particularly care for stall teams, they make for boring matches, but it goes hand in hand with hail, so my team is part stall, part offensive, or whatever you want to call this team)

Weavile@life orb
pressure
jolly 252 spe/ 252 atk/ 4 spd

ice shard
pursuit
night slash
low kick

thanks for the advice on ice shard, it takes down the same threats ice punch was used for, and helps revenge kill dd dragonite very nicely. the life orb opens him up to take down multiple pokemon instead of just switching as soon as i switch in. he also makes a nice lead, most people mistake him a s SD weavile, taunt, and get hit hard if not fainted. weaviles also a great threat tyranatar and to steal types, like magnezone, heatran, one steelix that i fought, and hits scizor pretty hard on the switch.

(note hes not always my lead, as i dont really have one lead, i switch between weavile, tentacruel, abamasnow, and gliscor depending on if i know the openents team, or if i feel like mixing it up.)

-------------

Abamasnow@choice scarf
snow warning
hasty 252 spe/ 116 spa/ 140 atk

Blizzard
Woodhammer
Earthquake
Hidden Power (fire)

i dont know if its because this set is never seen or what, but scarfsnow seems to be a major threat to most teams ive faced. people dont expect to see a speedy abamasnow and lose pokemon theyd expect to outspeed it (such as breloom, heatran, starmie, aerodactyl, roserade, and many leads) he nets an easy 2-3 kills per match, and severs as a great unex[ected revenge killer.

-------------

Rotom-H@leftovers
levitate
bold 252 hp/ 162 def/ 88 spe

overheat
thunderbolt
shadowball
will-o-wisp

i took your advice with rotom. he serves as a great spin blocker, and helps keep gyarados's in check (although if he fails to do his job my entire team gets raped)

-------------

Walrein@leftovers
icebody
bold 220 hp/ 252 def/ 36 spd

Roar
Surf
Protect
Substitute

i have stallrein running roar now, which is a much better option over toxic, as it barely ever came in handy. im interested in trying the superfang brine combo out too, but i think i might save that for a trickroom hail team if i ever make one.

-------------

Gliscor@leftovers
sandveil
jolly 252 hp/ 252 spe/ 4 def

Roost
Earthquake
Stealth Rock
U-Turn

i opted for u-turn over firefang. like Nosferalto sugested it helps to break sashes and switch to an appropriate counter, and it finds more use than just being used for scizor and fortress, also with rotom-H on my team i have a decent enough counter for those two.

-------------

Tentacruel@leftovers
liquid ooze
calm 252 hp/ 120 def/ 136 spd

Toxic Spikes
Rapid Spin
Sludge Bomb
Surf

nothings really changed here. i switched out sludge for leftovers. ive been using rapid spin more often than i used to after i realized how much SR was killing my team on the switch. a better toxic spiker might be nice, but tentcruel serves its purpose well, taking hits from fire and fighting types with ease and then setting up.

tell me what you think of hail team 3.0 and ill rework it from there

Rotom f over Electivire would be nice. Gives a good fighting resister too, and max investment Blizzard does a number on Swampert. Unless this is for wifi I see no need to run Black Sludge on Tentacruel as it can be tricked onto Walrein later in the match.

You could really use some insurance against DD Gyarados. Gyarados can easily set-up on a choice-locked move from Weavile and Tentacruel as well taking minimal damage from Sludge Bomb and Surf. After a single DD, Gyarados is able to sweep your team clean. Other than that, your team desperately needs a Spin-blocker. At the moment, Rapid Spinners such as Starmie and Forretress can easily come in on your team and ruin all of your hard work. Toxic Spikes is a crucial component on a Hail team like this one, that's why I think you need that Spin-blocker so badly. To remedy those issues, the Pokemon I am suggesting is Rotom-F instead Electivire. Electivire is not a very good choice in the current metagame. Rotom-F provides a solid DD Gyarados check, able to take a +1 Waterfall and retaliate with Thunderbolt while acting as a decent spin-blocker by virtue of it's Ghost- typing. The set I am going to reccomend is the Resttalk set as it provides the most durablity seeing as Rotom-F is such an important part of your team. Rotom-F gives you another Fighting- type switch-in which is always welcome on a Hail team and it can also utilize a 100% accuracy Blizzard to take advantage of hail. Use the following moveset (Bold nature): Thunderbolt | Blizzard | Rest | Sleep Talk with Leftovers and 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD as an EV spread.

Over Toxic on Walrein, consider using Roar and 48 Spe EVs. Walrein can act as your phazer with Roar. You can shuffle your opponent in to let Toxic Spikes damage and Stealth Rock damage gradually build up and you also get to scout the foe's team as well. You can also negate Skarmory's attempts at Whirlwinding your Substitute by Roaring Skarmory out first since you outspeed if you use 48 Spe EVs. Toxic has limited use due to Toxic Spikes being on your team, so you could use that slot more effectively. You can even try out Super Fang instead of Toxic and Brine over Surf. Super Fang brings your opponent's HP to 50% and you can finish them off with a 130 base power Brine.

As for minor changes, Weavile wants Ice Shard over Ice Punch. The priority can always turn out to be useful in a few situations and Ice Shard lets you revenge kill DD Dragonite. Between Fire Fang and U-turn in the last slot in Gliscor's moveset, I would say U-turn is the superior option. U-turn is quite useful as you can break Focus Sashes and go to the appropriate Pokemon to finish off the foe. It can also be used to scout the opponent's team when you expect a switch. This gives you control of the match and can start forming your strategy early in the match.

Finally, a word of caution. Gliscor is your only check to SD Lucario and Tyranitar, two of Hail's biggest threats. You should play conservatively with Gliscor so that it doesn't go down too fast seeing as it is your lead since that would leave your team vulnerable to TTar and Lucario.

Other than that, good luck with your team.

Just a few things,
1) Fire Fang on Gliscor would be your only real Scizor check, and I can imagine Scizor destroying this team.
2) Weaville has unstoppable attack and speed as it is. If you actually used Rapid Spin, you could throw on a focus sash, kill a Gengar, then kill thier Heatran switch in with Low Kick. Really, I very seldom see something 3HKO'd by Weaville.
3) However good vire is, go with Rotom. You need a spinblocker.
GL.

haha yeah gyarados rapes my team as of now.

i switched vire for a rotom-H, that way i have a scizor check and something to hit gyarados hard

Rotom-H@leftovers
levitate
bold 252 hp/ 162 def/ 88 spe

overheat
thunderbolt
shadowball
will-o-wisp

hes worked alright so far, and works as a good fighting type counter. ive only fought one gyarados after the switch and i got flinched, he killed rotom, and swept my team so i doubt that was a real test of him. other than that he works perfectly as a spin blocker and a great bulky switch in.

i switched roar for toxic on walrein too after i realized that was a little redundant.

i went with u-turn over firefang too, just cause i didnt get much use out of firefang. gliscor gets walled by too many pokemon, namely rotom and any flying type, with that set though. any ideas on a better 4th move than u-turn or fire fang?

Abamasnow@choice scarf

Hidden Power (fire)

abamasnow now runs a choiceband and is more of a mixed sweeper. hes been much more usefull, at least in the matches ive played lately, running this set and usually nets 1-2 quick kills

thanks for the advice on the black sludge, i havent had too many problems with that though, i can usually kill off the poke before i get tricked back (not that ive ever been tricked back actually). can you be tricked through a substitute or protect? if you cant i dont really see a point in changing it for leftovers.

thanks for the help, any additional help would be choice, tell me what you think about the team now

also would a lifeorb be more effective on weavile? it would free him from being locked into one move, his attack would still be balls high, and hed still kick ass

i like the focus sash idea too though, i might have to try it out.

you should lead with abomasnow to get up hail instantly, although it would kinda give away the theme of this team. Also, I'd remove Focus Punch and replace with Protect on Abomasnow. Your team also lacks a phazer to help spread Toxic Spikes quicker; I recommend either Skarmory or Swampert.

Hi. This team is mostly solid, but there are a couple of Pokemon that seem rather out of place on your team: Electivire and Weavile.

Electivire is not only a terrible pokemon in general, but does not suit this team very well at all. Hail teams usually attempt to stall rather than to sweep, and you already have a useful electric immunity on your team. As mentioned previously, Rotom-A is a good choice, as it blocks rapid spin and helps against Scizor and Gyarados. I would go for a simple 252 hp 252def 4spe spread, since Rotom specialises in taking physical hits. As for the moves, you could also consider Will-O-Wisp or Reflect rather than Blizzard, as you really want to be able to escape from Tyranitar.

As for weavile, he does not take advantage of hail in any way beyond being immune to it, is offensively oriented, and compounds the weakness to SR and the common Rock, Fire and Steel-type moves. I would recommend that you add a Steel-type in its place, as you currently have no resistor of dragon-type moves (leaving you open to Extremespeed DDnite, DD Kingdra, mixed dragons etc). I would recommend Heatran, as it also covers Fire-type moves rather well, and helps check Scizor further. A Choice Scarf Heatran could help to absorb trick and provide an element of speed, revenge killing various threats to your team.

There are also a few small moveset changes I would suggest. First, since Hail teams are weak to SR (Tentacruel has problems with spin blockers and has to set up toxic spikes as well without reliable recovery, which means you cannot rely on Rapid spin) so any attempt to prevent it from being set up is appreciated. Taunt over U-turn lets Gliscor prevent SR, and helps break opposing stall teams by preventing them from recovering.

Black sludge should be substituted for leftovers on Tentacruel. Though Black sludge hurts trick users, Tentacruel is still completely crippled and the opponent can then trick black sludge onto another member of your team.

Speed on Walrein is a poor idea. Some people will remember that the on-site analysis recommended speed evs, but I have successfully had this changed for reasons explained here. Roar is still a good idea as it lets Walrein phaze out baton passers and stat boosters, while racking up entry hazard damage. The argument previously applied to Skarmory by Nosferalto can apply to Swampert (the idea of outrunning skarmory is optimistic, since Walrein cannot touch Skarmory, who often runs a considerable number of speed evs or even taunt) and other slow phazers.

Abomasnow should run the following spread: 252hp 4spatk 252Spdef sassy. Abomasnow has good specially-based resistances, and so can switch into most bulky waters with ease. They may even fail to break its sub. Investing in abomasnows poor speed, or its defense (hampered by weaknesses) is not a good idea.

Good luck.

Well i really use hail teams ALOT and started a weather team guide on my youtube channel.
Well Gliscor is useless on a hail team IMO as ice is weak to fire, fighting, steel and rock.. First lets start with ice pokes, Abomasnow is a must on any OU hail team and is best used as a lead. Froslass IMO is the second must. As it can lay spikes, has 110 speed, has access to destiny bond which ensures you to kill a big threat, and above all it can abuse snow cloak, even 100 accuracy moves are lowered to around 80 so moves like fire blast and stone edge can easily miss add to the fact that froslass also has resistance to fighting moves and could act as a anti-rapid spinner if you lay toxic spikes Other than that you have stallrein which can stall out 2 pokes with protect and substitue only.. Add to that super fang and brine O.o jst wonders. You also have weavile which i prefer holding expert belt which fools your opponent into thinking that he is choiced to get hit with another super-effective move. Seriously weavile causes me sweeps. Um you also have the underrated glaceon which has the STRONGEST blizzard in the game and can abuse snow cloak. Also you have mamoswine... Also regice and articuno are great walls.
Now talking about Non-ice pokes.. Best poke is tentacruel with resistance to 3/4 of ices weakness (all four except rocks neutral) and can spin away stealth rocks which are a big problem to hail teams, also can lay toxic spikes which does wonders with hail damage. You also have magnezone that resists rock and can trap the only pokes that sweep hail teams IMO (scizor, agility metagross, and jirachi), You also have flygon which is a very effective revenge killer and could resist rock and fire and is weak to ice which is resisted by ice pokes. Heatran is also a very effective member in hail teams, resitin 4x steel and having a fire resistnce is just sweet. Also mentioning the boost you get from fire moves.
I mainly use 4 ice pokes and 2 non my most effective team is
Abomasnow
Froslass
Weavile
Wallrein
Tentacruel
Heatran
Hope this helps y'all

To everyone saying that Abomasnow is a good lead, are you aware of how much he gets tossed about by almost every single lead in OU? Azelf can Taunt, Stealth Rock and OHKO with Fire Blast, whilst Aerodactyl can Taunt, Stealth Rock, or OHKO with Stone Edge. Swampert can set up Rocks, and Roar you away. Infernape sets up Rocks, or OHKOs with both STABs. Heatran lols. Roserade will sleep you, set up T-Spikes or just OHKO you with HP Fire. Even Forretress can chuck hazards until you switch, without fear of anything but a Scarfer. Both the Sand Streamers get their weather over Hail; Hippowdon can set up and Roar you away whilst Tyranitar can set up Rocks or DDance. Smeargle and (eeugh) Ninjask are free to do whatever the hell they want, as are all weather leads.

Abomasnow does /nothing/ as a lead other than say "HEY MATT, YOU'RE FACING A HAIL TEAM", and perhaps "I SUCK." Yeah, I think he's pretty much the worst lead possible in OU. Except maybe Feebas.

Anyways, rant over. Abomasnow is much more suited to the mid-game, where he makes a decent Starmie and Jolteon check, and can at least try to put himself in an advantageous position. The OP's got the right idea; a Scarf can be very nice on him, giving you a lot of surprise OHKOs and free hail when you switch him in.

haha how did you know my names matt.....
im glad someone understands hail teams like i do (even though ive been playing for literally 2 weeks now if thats saying much....)
abamasnow is meant to be played late game, unless you get lucky and they lead with something awkward or different from standard leads. (people who try to trick you with a choice scarf get shit all over)

ive thought about glaceon for the beastly blizzard, but it just perpetuates my weaknesses to take someone off of my team to put one on, it also doesnt seem advantageous to me in any way to swap glaceon for say weavile, who is faster and hits more pokemon harder, or walrein, who when set up properly can stall for 26 turns and build up residual damage from EH and hail.

3 non ice types seems to work perfectly for me, as it covers most of my weaknesses and allows for coverage of most pokemon

how is gliscor useless on a hail team? he resists fighting attacks, self heals, sets up stealth rocks and keeps ttar and sandstorm teams in check. hes also balls fast, outspeeding the majority of pokemon and destroys heatran. he also serves as a scizor check, healing of damage from bullet punch and u-turns like its nothing

i will admit though, magnezone does sound interesting on my team, it can trap steal pokes with magnet pull, and hit hard with HP fire and has a tbolt that hits hard enough to threaten any gyarados coming in. he could probably even survive a +1 earthquake with a shuca berry (although that limits him an item slot and makes him pretty much just a gyarados check which my team desperately needs)
